Great Thanks to everyone.
I’ve successfully ran Asrock H110M-HDV Rev.3 with i3-8100
I like instructions in this topic.
Any leads on getting an i7 9700k working on a z170/z270 yet?
I would like to do this Coffee Lake mod on a Asus Z170-A board. Does anyone have any experience with this board?

I’m on version 3504 right now and the latest is 3802.
It´s working on ASRock Z170 OCF-M but people can´t show pictures yet. You can download a bios file here.

i am using ASUS Z270 Prime-A motherboard and i5 6600 cpu
I want to upgrade my Cpu and i purchase i5 9600K already
I know how to use 6core cpu by AC and Isolation
Does anyone have bios(can use unlocked cpu overclock) of this board?
Hi all.
I’ve tried that on a Z170 Extreme3 motherboard.
There’s one thing I did differently and I’m reporting:
UBU V1.70 won’t allow me to replace firmware, I had to remove ALL to put in only one.
Instead I’ve just added 06EB firmware from MMTool before using UBU, then went thru the procedure (that also replace all of the “embedded” firmwares with the latest versions).
Haven’t tried an actual coffee lake CPU (still waiting delivery) but BIOS update was successful (even ME downgrade) and the board is booting happily with a G4560.
One question: Do I need to solder wires (SKT_OCC etc) and jumper CPU pads to make this work or is “fine as is” ?
If you need more microcodes put in (back in ) your BIOS let me know, I can do!
Could you put the microcodes into an Asus Z170-A BIOS for a Core i7-9700K? or a i7-8700k? Please keep the Skylake code in there but Kaby can be sacrificed.
The BIOS is here:
https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-A/HelpDesk_BIOS/
I’m on version 3504 right now and the latest is 3802.
@Shad0w59 - Which BIOS do you want it done on? What microcodes do you want in there, please be exact with version and CPUID (I don’t see CPUID for 9700K, so you have to tell me).
None will have to be sacrificed usually when I do it, occasionally I suppose but it’s rare.
@Lost_N_BIOS - thanks very much for your response.
TLDR - basically I would like:
Asus Z170-A latest bios 3802
Skylake CPU support
Coffee Lake i7-9700k 8c/8t support (CPUID 06EC, version 96, I think)
ME version - 11.6.10.1196 (this is my current one)
Long post:
Any BIOS would be fine, I guess I prefer the latest version 3802. I thought the ME firmware version needs to be less than 11.7.x.xxxx for this to work and BIOS version 3504 is the last one to have ME firmware 11.6.x.xxxx.
I think the CPUID for the 9700k is 906EC and version is 96 but I am not sure about this information as I have just got it through random Googling:

I’m sorry I don’t have the CPU right now. I am hoping to get one of these CPUs if my Asus Z170-A motherboard can be modded. Am I right to assume that the 9700k 8/8 will be easier to support than the other 9000 series 9600k 6/6 or 9900k 8/16 thread CPUs due to it being the same amount of threads as the older Skylake and Kaby Lakes?
Thanks again.
ME Firmware and the rest of the mod is all up to you, and that is part of why I asked you what BIOS version you wanted too. Me can be changed easy on my end, not as easy on your end to backflash, so don’t flash any ME or BIOS with ME above whatever version you think you may need to stick to.
What’s your current ME? I can put any ME into the latest BIOS, if you’re not already ME updated past what you wanted for the mod, if you are then you need to force a backflash via modded BIOS using a few possible methods.
I was only going to update/add microcodes based on what you wanted. YOu have to be sure about what microcodes you want in the BIOS before I can put them in there.
I don’t know about what’s easier, probably like you mentioned but I can’t say for sure as I haven’t really paid any attention to these kinds of mods since I do not have those CPU’s
You figure out exactly what you want, what exact microcode revision for each CPUID, then let me know. And please keep in mind, you may need to use a certain version of microcode too, so do more research before you decide.
And let me know your current ME, and what version you want in the BIOS.
@Shad0w59 - edit, I posted this, while you were editing…
Will do mod tonight, heading out now, so you have time to research more if needed
Does this mod work on non-Asus/Asrock motherboards? I’m wondering if it is possible to do this on Zotac’s B150 board used in their Magnus Mini PCs. The ME revision is low enough.
Yes, often it will work on many BIOS @mini-stx I’ve seen people doing on OEM like HP/Dell so it should be fine on Zotac
SO @Shad0w59 - is above final choices?
Asus Z170-A latest bios 3802
Skylake CPU support
Coffee Lake i7-9700k 8c/8t support (CPUID 06EC, version 96, I think)
ME version - 11.6.10.1196 (this is my current one)
So, 3802 - add 906EC latest microcode, downgrade ME if 11.7, keep all microcodes if possible (If not, keep Skylake)
PCIE Patch has to be first tested on your end, if needed or not, then if so you can run the batch file.
@Lost_N_BIOS - thanks so much for your help and offer to do the mod.
The details in your post are the final choice and I believe all of them are correct. I think the PCIE patch will be needed on my side as it is common for Asus.
OK, doing mod now, will edit in BIOS shortly
ME was already 11.6.10.1196, so only modifications done was microcode changes >>
906EC added, revision 9E - 8/26/18
906E9/Kaby removed - sorry couldn’t grow volume to keep all 5 microcodes

Flash with USB Flashback, or use this guide and .rom BIOS - [GUIDE] Grub Fix Intel FPT Error 368 - BIOS Lock Asus/Other Mod BIOS Flash
If you use guide above, start at step #6, here is your BIOS lock variable for steps 1-5 >> 0x8C6
Sorry mods! I meant to edit this into my previous post right before this
Can i5 8400 work on GA-Z270-Gaming-K3?
hello everyone I wanted to know if a person had already managed to run an 8700k and a msi z170 sli plus .
I am able to flash ME. But I am lost with moddification to do on the bios. If a nice person can help me to do my bios thank you
@Lost_N_BIOS Would you please mod this bios? Please.
I tried using the all-in-one tool and it didn’t work.
I have an Asus ranger z170 motherboard with a skylake 6600k cpu.
ME version-11.6.0.1032, could you please add support for an 8700k and 9700k cpu. I will also need the pci mod.
latest bios for the Asus ranger is 3802.
I would really appreciate it. Thank you
@mechwarrior - so you only need CPU microcodes (Sky + 8700K/9700K - other can be removed if needed?) and the PCIE mod?
