[Guide] How to flash a modded AMI UEFI BIOS

Yes. The LED of those sticks starts flashing for a moment so something is actually read from it but then it stops flashing (mainboard, flashback) and ends up being a stable light.

@idl0r :
If you are sure, that you haven’t done a mistake, I recommend to contact the ASUS Support.

Works now! I somehow mixed the USB31 vs w/o. Using the normal MARK 2 works. Thanks!

@idl0r
It is fine, that you finally got the modded BIOS successfully flashed.
Since you problem has nothing to do with the UBU tool, I have moved our discussion into this better matching thread.

Greetings,

I have a Gigabyte z77x-up5 and I have done really a lot of bios modding, many times with zero problems.
Now i will upgrade to itx z270. I was thinking Asus ROG Strix Z270I.
So my question is this: Is asus the same modding bios friendly as gigabyte is? or it has some kind of bios signature check etc…?

Thank you in advance

@greg.chalk :
It is very easy to get a modified BIOS flashed into the BIOS chip of an ASUS UEFI mainboard, if your specific ASUS board supports the "USB Flashback".
AFAIK all ROG boards have this feature.

EDIT: I have moved your post into this already existing thread.

I think BIOS Flashback has been dropped from ROG Strix Motherboards.

“fair bit missing here too. The most obvious is the lack of an LED POST code display, power and reset buttons, and a CMOS clear button, all being present on the last generation Maximus version, as well as USB BIOS Flashback - also absent here”.

@WoodyUK :
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum and thanks for the info.

Thank you for your reply. z270i doesn’t support usb flashback. Google search showed that bios is locked , so it’s more difficult to mod bios.
I like this motherboard more than gigabyte’s, so probably I will buy Asus and I won’t risk modding the bios. We will see.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you

Hi,

Was wondering what is the recommended stable version of UEFITool to use right now? I went to the authors site and found three versions 0.21.5, A32 NE, + A40 NE.

The A40 even has a different author. Which one you guys recommend?

Thank you.

AFAIK latter 2 versions are Preview versions of the next UEFITool generation. Even the newest version NE A40 seems to be still within the Alpha development stage (look >here<).

The latest stable UEFITool version, which is v0.21.5.

Hello forum members. I have had a hell of a time trying to flash my Asus GL502VT Laptop bios. No matter what I try using all the methods that you have here on your website I keep getting that the file is write-protected. I’m in desperate need to flash this modified bios I personally updated using UBU tool. I update the vbios and gop driver (skylake) and CPU microcode to ver. B2. In your section for UBU it says that UBU fron 1.20 and up remove security from the bios file. Im confused please help. Thank you for all the help. Please forgive me Fernando if I posted in the wrong section.

Nevermind I got it working. Thank you

AFAIK this is only valid for ASRock mainboards, but not for ASUS ones.

What was the trick? How did you get the modded BIOS flashed?

Hello Fernando and Thank you for replying. Sorry for the late response, I had a long day at work. I used Afu to install the bios and didn’t get any security check issue. I do have another problem though. Maybe you or any other forum member can help me. When I flashed the bios the system boots and everything functions correctly, but now I can’t access the bios. For some odd reason the system freezes when I press the delete key to enter bios. I also tried through windows 10 update & Security-recovery-advance startup-firmware settings and then system freezes again. I heard that the latest mmtool is buggy could it be that? I of course copied the mmtool from a older UBU tool I had downloaded at a earlier time, because you removed it from the latest tool cause of the bugs. If you can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

EDIT by Fernando: Quoting code corrected

Thanks for your feedback.

The AMI Aptio MMTool v5.0.0.7 is buggy (especially regarding the update of vBIOS modules), but that was not the reason for its removal from the UBU tool package. For details please look >here<.

My advice is to reflash the original BIOS.
Reasons:
1. Flashing a modded BIOS into the BIOS chip of a Mobile system is much more risky than doing the same with a Desktop mainboard.
2. The UBU tool has not been designed by the developer for being used with Mobile systems.

Please reduce your signature. It needs too much space resp. too many lines (2-3 are enough). The only important informations for our Forum are 1. Chipset/Mainboard/System, 2. System drive details, 3. Storage Controller’s protocol (AHCI/RAID/NVMe) and 4. currently/mainly running OS

Hello, l’d like to know how to flash a bios mod in my asus x541uj laptop. I tried to extract a .rom with afudos, modified it with amibcp and flashed it with afudos (afudos biosmod.rom /gan). The process was “successfull” but no changes were done… I just want to show hidden options in order to disable enhanced intel speedstep for mao performance. Bios/uefi is an aptioV. Please, someone can help me

I also tried with ez flasher 3 with a modified bios renamed exactly like the one i get in asus page. “File isn’t proper” or something like that… Is it possible to extract the body with uefi tool and the capsule separatly, modify tje body and then, fuse modified body with guenine capsule? Which utility could do that?

@Mrdjvano :
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!

Since your ASUS laptop doesn’t offer the USB Flashback feature, I recommend to follow CodeRush’s guide, which is layed down within the start post of >this< thread. If you should not succeed, please post your problem/request into the linked thread and hope, that you will get support by our BIOS Guru CodeRush.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help fernando. I already this method but unfortunately changes were not applied. No problem during flash but there are 2 advanced folders
