I’ve got a couple hp compaq pro 6200 sff, with the latest 2.33 04/12/2019 bios version. and am trying to upgrade them from their second gen i3 garbage to some xeon e3 1240v2 and 1230v2’s. but it continues giving the 5 beep no post error whenever I put the xeons in (tested working in other systems some) cpuz detects 0x2F microcode in the mainboard which is sandybridge I believe. anyone have any ideas how to get it to have ivybridge support for these xeons? I have a bios programmer but have never used it so if I need to do that I can learn
I see this post here about someone doing it, but I am lost on a very very simple step. Where do I even find this bios rom file? HP only gives .exes to install it which upon looking all over their website all of the install options for the latest bios only give those or .cab files or whatever.
So I use my programmer to copy the bios rom? Annoying there is no direct download but that’s fine. After that how do I add the compatibility?
So should I downgrade bios using the programmer (since I believe hp made it impossible to do normally), then add the support?
By the first 2 linked ones above… dont you see what they wrote???
Didnt you read the linked material? What do you see? Should be the same as i saw… rigth?
I have read both of those. I have read them so many times. I have googled this issue almost a hundred times at this point.
The first link is just someone saying “sorry can’t do that” and then redirecting to ask on win raid forum (guess how I found out this place exists)
the second link says that it works on the old bios, but I thought the issue was just lacking ivy bridge support in general and hp blocked adding it or made it harder or something with the latest bios. But from what I kinda get from that is that there was previously ivy bridge support since the guy said it worked on 2.15 version of bios and that the new one doesnt work.
So I was confirming if I infered from those links correctly that I just have to downgrade it using the programmer nothing else.
So asking again, is that all I have to do? Or do I also have to inject the microcode first into the old bios?
But then the other links below talk about actually injecting the code so I have conflicting information, at least in how I interpreted it.
You read the same as me, ONLY WORKED IN BIOS 2.15…
Everybody knows that HP bioses after 2016/2017 suffered increased security measures.
I dont have such system to “play” with…what else do you want to hear???
Its your call sir… over_N_OUT.
So I download the old bios from some repository (I guess this is somewhere), and then add the microcode to that using some program on another pc. And then flash that old bios with the microcode into the pc using flasher because hp wont let you do it normally
Please just let me know if this is a correct course of action. I don’t know of any other place to ask about this kinda thing.
