HP HDX9000 mods

Not sure if QX9300 would be bootable with only 2 cores, but X9100 SLGE7 sounds good. QHBQ seems to be E8435 (not X9100)? Most likely non-overclockable.

As for the further GPU mod, I made a universal MXM 3 adapter for HDX9000, Toshiba X300/X305/X500/X505/P500, Dell M6400/M6500/M2010/M1730 and some others. My Dragon is dead, waiting for a replacement motherboard soon. So I can’t do a proper test of the adapter, but it didn’t work for Dell M6500. I tried Quadro 5010M and 3000M cards with no luck. What’s interesting is that the laptop behaved differently with each of them and the cards themselves behave differently in terms of enabling their power. So I assume that it could be a power sequence issue causing the cards to not work. 3000M makes the laptop reboot all the time before anything shows up on the screen. It turned out that the PCIE reset signal was causing that. The isolation of this signal stopped the laptop from rebooting, but another laptop where the card was used stopped posting. So the signal is necessary. Another issue with the 3000M card was that the power enable signal coming from the M6500 was not triggering the card to enable power. I had to do that manually, but it didn’t help to produce anything on the screen. The 5010M card didn’t have those problems, but it didn’t show anything on the screen. So I’m trying to figure out if the problem is the MXM vbios or I made a mistake in the design. Waiting for a replacement motherboard for the Dragon to arrive next month.

The adapter is only for test purposes in order to understand if there are any other cards out there which could be adopted.

Well it would be best if the QX9300 would work on all 4 cores, but I thought that 2 cores won’t be so bad while searching for solution to make it fully work. As for QHBQ - it is an X9100, I used to have one and it was awesome. SLGE7 was available during its heyday (‘09~’10, even then it was RARE and EXPENSIVE) and I guess everyone who got one holds it tight.

Sadly MXM never was a standard to begin with. Usually DELL GPUs and vBIOSes are more compatible, even with HP machines.
