Intel (Converged Security) Management Engine: Drivers, Firmware and Tools (2-15)

Yeap, I remembered correctly. ASRock has a ME Recovery system in-place that restores a pre-defined version from a backup incase it detects an updated ME. Details can be found on this forum HERE (pages of posts). In the end, @lordkag found the solution. I suspect he might be able to help you out on this one.

Hello everyone.

I have a HP laptop (model DV6-6b66ew)
Chipset HM67 and Intel i7 2nd gen.
My system has updated (done by myself) ME FW which is actually 7.1.60.1193
Can I update this system do ME 8.x ?? ( found on the web that this is for many Intel 6/7 Series Chipsets).

This is dump from MEInfo:

Thank you for any suggestions.

Can? It seems not!

@ tadekm:
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!

It may be possible, but the risk of a bricked system is extremely high.
That is why I do not recommend to try it.
What do you expect from a switch to Intel ME8 (besides the good feeling to get a newer Management Engine for your system)?

Regards
Fernando

me7 1.5mb There will be updated?

No you cannot. ME8 is for 7-series systems and for some rare desktop overclocking 6-series systems. Even at those officially-supported systems, it’s risky and the OEM’s have detailed instructions on how to proceed. It’s not for you though. The latest is v7.1.60.1193. For the record is has been tested on a mobile HM67 in the past and always failed. According to Intel it’s a hardware limitation really.

Ivy-Bridge cpu support. The Z68 chipset originally had SB only support with ME7. If the manufacturer released a new BIOS with ME8 support you were able at such platforms to install the newer IVB cpu’s. Not possible on mobile.

The latest 1.5MB image is 7.1.60.1193. If a new one is released from Intel and some OEM shares it with us then we will have a new firmware. For now, 1.5MB v7.1.60.1193 is the latest and added Windows 8 support (whatever that means).

There is an old me7 7.1.10.1065 1.5MB, seemed very strange, it cannot downgrade! This is why? In here: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1mgiKAmc

It is rather unusual to "downgrade" the Intel ME Firmware by using the regular Firmware update flash tool.
Which Intel ME7 Firmware is actually working and why do you want to "downgrade" it?

It is possible to downgrade to an older ME version using FWUpdLcl without any issues. However, every ME Firmware version has a Blacklist table which does not allow certain downgrades. Specifically, downgrades to older versions that have been proven to be vulnerable.

You can run MEInfoWin -BLIST to see to what version you can downgrade to. For example ME v7.1.60.1193 reports this:

If you have a ME7 1.5MB (consumer, 6-series) system, I suggest you update to the latest ME v7.1.60.1193 using FWUpdLcl and leave it at that.

I’m curious 7.1.52.1176\7.1.60.1193 upgrade from 35%-100%, while the 7.1.10.1065 is from 10%-100%, the extra 25% seem very special

I didn’t understand anything in that sentence, what do you mean?

I didn’t understand anything in that sentence, what do you mean?

Me firmwae specific can bring what function, it is a better job?

I still do not understand, you are probably using Google Translate or similar. Are you asking what’s the difference, what has been updated, the changelog of ME v7?

Yes, management engine firmware update constantly have what use?

You can learn what Intel ME does from wikipedia here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Activ…ment_Technology

Specifically for ME Firmware v7 the changelog up-until v7.1.60.1193 is this (approximation, there are more changes/improvements but these are what Lenovo mentioned):

- (Fix) Fixed some issues.

7.1.52.1176

7.1.10.1065

Oh, his update does not seem to affect performance, but fixes bug

Edit by Fernando: Fully quoted text shortened (to save space)

Version 7.1.10.1065 is very old at this point. Just because this user uploaded it some days ago, it doesn’t make it new or updated. Use FWUpdLcl to update to the latest 1.5MB v7.1.60.1193 ME firmware.

The “Special MEInfo tool for Sony systems” is actually a special Sony firmware file. So, shouldn’t it be added to section C and leave just the v9.5 MEInfo tool at section Aa? I think this it is misplaced by accident.

Based on the System Tools thread, I have updated some files. LINK. Your original folder structure + .bat files are intact:

MEInfo for ME6 → Added DOS
MEInfo for ME7 → Added DOS

MEManuf for ME6 → Added DOS
MEManuf for ME7 → Added DOS
MEManuf for ME8 v8.1.10.1286 → v8.1.51.1476

Intel ME9 1.5MB FWUpdate v9.0.31.1487 (v9.0.21.1452 → v9.0.22.1467 Win/Win64)
Intel ME8 1.5MB FWUpdate v8.1.52.1496 (Win version was a DOS duplicate + Added EFI)
Intel ME7 1.5MB FWUpdate v7.1.60.1193 → Added DOS v7.1.50.1166

Intel ME6 5MB FWUpdate v6.2.60.1066 → Added DOS (same version)
Intel ME7 5MB FWUpdate v7.1.86.1221 → Added DOS v7.1.50.1166
Intel ME8 5MB FWUpdate v8.1.57.1556 → Added DOS (same version)

Also, these are legacy ME UPD firmwares which are usable with their relevant FWUpdLcl tools. If you don’t think these should be here, I will make a small topic for legacy firmware in case someone is ever looking for those.

@ ex58 and plutomaniac:

Thanks for your posts. I will reply as soon as I have the time.
Actually I am in a hurry.
