i have this lenovo y50-70 laptop 20378
i want to tell what happened to me and ask for ideas, solutions if possible.
I wanted to use Linux for a while - changed the ssd and installed few new distros for seeing the beauty of linux my Broadcom wifi wasn’t working so I changed my wifi module to Intel Dual Band Ac-7260 but got a whitelist error and wanted to whitelist bios again so I needed to switch back to Win
changed my already well working ssd - logged onto windows and got an error first -'DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION then restart and got another bsod -VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR my Nvidia went off
then thinking that might be related to bios also I did wanted to open advanced features of bios I flashed bios with command tool -restarted and my bios went dark
tried to fix it with usb methods FN+R etc nothing worked
took it to a local repair , he heated the bios chip and using a usb eprom programmer he flashed a bios on it and he told he fixed the Nvidia chip also then when I opened the laptop I saw there was a BIOS delay like 15-17 secs
he flashed it again and same error , I took it home back and the same Nvidia errors same bios delay - we changed the 8mb bios.bin same delay and same nvidia crash happens -i am using with the onboard hd 4600 graphics but problem still exists
what are my options - i guess the error is about the ME region corruption on bios
any help appreciated
thanks for reading and commenting
The ME firmware could be corrupt/misconfigured if the person who reflashed the SPI chip used another dump or similar. But I doubt all these problems are related, especially these Nvidia issues. As far as the ME firmware is concerned, before SPI chip reflash, a ME CleanUp should be performed as instructed here. Then validate ME health via MEInfo and MEManuf tools as explained at the ME thread. Everything else is not ME related.
One detail i forgot to mention that leads me to the conclusion of Nvidia being related to the ME or Bios is " whenever we flash the bios with the eprom programmer usb" nvidia works for a time without any fixes made . it just starts working .
And thanks for the reply Pluto.
