[OFFER] ASUS Maximus VIII - modded BIOSes

Not all settings are visible at the FIT window, some can only be seen at the xml configuration file. Use this guide to transfer ME settings from stock/OEM ME region to the new one. Thus you will end up with an updated, configured and cleaned ME region. Please note, that guide is not meant for such use. However, it should work perfectly fine in this case. After you are done, open the original ME firmware, save xml and exit FIT. Do the same for the new ME firmware. Compare the two xml files (old and new) with a comparison tool and you should see identical settings everywhere apart from the obvious InputFile fields due to the different filename or directory.

Anyway I’m pretty sure that mobo coming with ME Firmware version 11.0.0.1168 (like the Maximus VIII series) can be updated only to 11.0.0.xxxx,
that is only revisions of the same brench) while 11.0.1.xxxx are for that mobos coming already with 11.0.1.xxxx firmware on board.

It seems the same strange issue for old Z87 mobos (like the old I had) coming with 9.0.xx.xxxx updated to 9.1.xx.xxxx.

So I’m suggesting to the Asus Z170 users to leave the ME firmware untouched and to do not update it.

@Sylar76 can’t copy your thoughts. As I posted here I succesfully updated the ME Firmware from 11.0.0.1168 to 11.0.10.1002 on a Ranger VIII.
So 11.0.11.1005 should be no Problem, Only Problem I found is that ME Analyzer 1.5.3 doesn’t know it yet. I will pack my spi programmer tommorrow and see if I can take it to 11.0.11.1005. :wink:

Akbars dumpfile ( Impact VIII )

As seen everything is updated correctly at akbaars bios using Flashback but the ME seems totally broken. It is unreadable.

It is absolutely normal that the aakbar’s dump shows an “unidentifiable” ME firmware,
as afuwin dumps only the bios region which are not locked (while the ME is locked as
well as other bios regions). He did that in order to dump UUID, Mac Address and Mobo
S/N for a further flashing as soon as he will be able to use the SPI Programmer to
recovery the bios chip.

@Sylar76 Thanks totally forgot about that arghhh… ^^

No, that is totally wrong. ASUS is just too bored to update it (them and Gigabyte seem to be the worst of the main players), that doesn’t mean anything newer is not compatible. Same for drivers, just because an OEM never updates them, it doesn’t mean that what they’ve posted two years ago is there due to compatibility reasons, not at all. For firmware, any board which comes with 11.0 can be updated to later 11.0.x.xxxx firmware without any issues. All these ASUS boards work with these ME firmware posted here, there is no doubt about that.

That was a special case. ME9.1 came with 9-series boards but was also usable on 8-series (ME9.0) due to the "Refresh" cycle. The same will apply to any LGA1151 board which will be upgradable to ME 11.5.x.xxx firmware when it’s out with Kaby Lake support. Another, more extreme, such example was SNB and IVB and thus ME7 to ME8. So nothing strange, just the way things are.

There is a reason I post these "MEA: […]" lines when a new firmware is released. The DB is updated weekly, if needed. In the meantime, you can copy that line after "MEA:" and paste it at MEA.dat file and thus allow MEA to recognize the new firmware. Check here for the relevant line for 11.0.11.1005 you need to add support for. Otherwise wait until Sunday’s release, although I don’t see how copying one line is difficult or time consuming.

It’s exactly as Sylar76 said. AFU dumps the Descriptor which references the ME region offset but not the actual ME region (due to lack of read/write access there) so when MEA fails to detect a ME region at that offset, it shows that error.

I managed to Update the ME Firmware to 11.0.11.1005 H on an Asus Z170 Ranger VIII

akbaar's Code 10 error is gone after reflashing his SPI with a fully updated bios file. He didnt make a dump from the winbond chip, so I cant tell why he had Code 10.
He is running 11.0.11.1005 H on his Asus Z170 Impact VIII.

Finally my SPI Programmer arrived and I also got the Code 10 error solved. Everything’s back to normal. :slight_smile:

yes me too…

Thanks to Orsox and Sylar for the assisstance and all members of this forum.

Code 10 error gone using Orsox modified BIOS for my Maximus Impact VIII.

Edited.

Can't test it yet cause the Ranger VIII is not in my Computer, it is in a System I build for someone else.

As Orsox correctly checked and pointed out, that ME region is not properly configured. Do not flash it! You need to use this guide to transfer all settings even if the former is not written for that reason. I does work, even for options which are not shown in FIT. Do not transfer the settings manually as you might miss something and it’s also a lot more time consuming.

sylar_mod.PNG

I have attached the xml and ME Region files to see for yourself: the stock, initial mod & fixed mod.

me_1701_mod.rar (3.81 MB)

I’ve exactly followed your guide and checked the ME Region and the BCLK was present under FIT. It’s very strange.

To verify my claims that the guide works, I transferred the settings and uploaded the resulting xml and firmware above. From the comparison it seems that BCLK part is indeed missing from the last posted modded SPI image. Try it again using the stock BIOS from ASUS and the guide. Once you do it correctly once, you’ll get the hang of it. As a last step, always verify the two xml files. The only differences should be the “input file” fields. That way, you’ll know that you did it properly.

@plutomaniac

Thanks my dear friend. I did a mistake, following your guides I’ve successfully integrated the new ME firmware and now the XML report is 100% ok.

You are the master.

Hello everyone,

Since all of you have a Z170 board, no matter if you have the latest ME firmware or not, can you run MEInfo -verbose and show the results here? For me the ideal is someone who has a MEInfo -verbose (or MEManuf) before and one after updating to 11.0.12.1008. But even older MEInfo -verbose reports will do. I’m interested to see the “FW Status Register” reports at the beginning.

MEInfo v11.0.11.1002.rar (1.77 MB)

@plutomaniac
Here you have the info before the update to 11.0.12.1008.
I hope I can add your requested info after the update to 11.0.12.1008 later today.

Yes I saw that before writing the request. It’s even more important to see some reports from people at 11.0.12.1008. Regarding your updating to the current 11.0.12.1008 CON-H firmware we have: Unless you can restore from a bad flash via a 2nd chip with unlocked FD or a programmer, I suggest to not try updating via FWUpdate. I will explain at the ME thread but there seem to be two firmware variants, PDM and non-PDM. Cross flashing seems to be ok for some people but for others can lead to errors before flashing (invalid image) or even bricks if it hags during the update. Based on the reports from 11.0.12.1008 CON-H we currently have, it’s very much possible that we have found the PDM variant.

@plutomaniac

Here you have your requested info:

Thank you very much for the report @Orsox

Yes, I think I’m right. A value of 200 means non-PDM whereas a value of 020 means PDM. I think the 11.0.12.1008 CON-H we have is PDM and not NOPDM like the earlier stuff we were flashing. I have just updated the ME thread with a 2nd 100-series warning. Can you proof read it and let me know if you don’t understand something? I need everyone to understand why paying attention to PDM is important.
