@Faman :
If you can see a disk drive named "PATA" or "PATA_SS" within the "BOOT" section of the BIOS, you can be sure, that the NVMe modded BIOS has been properly flashed and that your PCIe>M.2 adapter works.
I’ve checked putting the card in every single PCI-E slot, no PATA or PATA_SS disk at all.
Could the older firmware be different in my case?
Do you advice me to try it or not? I’m concerned about some say had problem after flashing that one.
What else can I try? It seems before and after flashing modded Bios in pheriperals no new voice appear.
Is it normal? I tought the card in PCI-E should be named, should got a driver. Isn’t it so?
Last question: which else better nvme to pci-e converter do you advise me to buy,
since mine doesn’t seem to work? Many thanks.
@Faman :
Windows should detect and show your NVMe SSD within the "Disks" section of the Device Manager, no matter wether the NVMe module is within the BIOS or not.
If the NVMe SSD is not listed within the Device Manager, there is something wrong with the connection of the SSD.
Would like to clarify that I pointed out what was wrong and (cry) they gave me a SATA m.2 and all the time I didn’t notice it. At last when dismounted the ssd from adapter asked myself why it got two gaps instead of, i thought, one. On the box obviously it was written in caps.
Hoped in a quick swap but situation in Italy and in my city isn’t good. So hope to make the test as soon as possible and write here, quite sure, success stories.
Noth that i got my system up i ran the latest ubu and updated rste ,intel, marvell and microcodes.
The file i used to do this was a .bin.
How to do i get the .bin back to cap.
Ubu leaves my bios with mod_bios.bin
Hello friends,
after reading this thread, I would like to also join the NVME club for P9X79 Pro, but I am still undecided. Maybe you could help me with some questions:
1) Which exact modified BIOS file from this thread I should use ?
2) If I understood correctly, there is issue with onboard NIC after updating BIOS with NVME support ? Also, are there any other issues apart from the NIC ?
My setup is P9x79 PRO / i7-3930k / 64GB RAM / EVO 850 500GB as system disk

Many thanks in advance.
EDIT:
I already have NVME expansion card, which I want to use: https://www.axagon.eu/en/produkty/pcem2-d , and I plan to buy EVO 970 1TB NVME for it, if i decide to to update BIOS.
hi guys
My setup is P9x79 / i7-3930k / 64GB RAM
can i use NVME with NVME expansion card on my mainboard ?
Yes. Just read through this thread to get details on how to modify that board’s bios so as to recognize that NVME card with its NVME disk.
Hi,
I sucessfully updated my P9X79 PRO, this is what I did:
1. Downloaded BIOS file from post #239, unpacked and renamed the file to P9X79PRO.ROM
2. Formated USB drive to FAT filesystem, then copied the bios on it.
3. Turned off machine, plugged the USB drive to Flashback USB port
4. Pressed the Flashback button for about 2-3sec, until the blue led light started blinking, waited few minutes until the led light turned off.
5. Turned on the machine, entered into the BIOS, and there it was new option at boot device : something called PATA SM, then I reset the settings to the "Optimal" values, saved and restarted. After restart, I entered again to the BIOS, but made changes I needed: Changed the boot order and enabled option "Boot from peripheral devices".
6. Installed Windows 10 Pro to the new NVME SSD HP EX950
Troubles I had:
1. I could not get working the flashing proces, the Flashaback blue light was constantly lit, which means there were some error. The problem was in USB drive - only USB drive which worked for me was Kingston 16GB, other USB drives from another vendors didnt worked for unknown reason.
2. For some unknown reason, sometimes the Flashback works with .CAP file extension, so if you want to be absolutely sure that the Flashback finds your new BIOS at the USB drive, put a copy of that BIOS, but with the .CAP extension too. So you will have on your USB drive two files: P9X79PRO.ROM and P9X79PRO.CAP
3. I had to use proper UEFI enabled boot ISO file for the Windows 10 - basically I downloaded official ISO from Microsoft and then used Rufus with GPT settings to make bootable.
Hope it will work for you.
My results:
Hi Fernadno
I tried to use your bios for asus p9x79 pro but if i try to update bios from EZ bios utility in bios i get message :
Security verification failed.
what can i do to upgrade bios for this mainboard ?
Hi,
you can only flash the bios via the USB Flashback port, as that bios is modified and not allowed by "basic" update methods like EZ flash.
I tried on 3 different usb stick’s and no luck
I renamed it for a proper name write cap file on usb stick and I press that quick bios update button untill it flash but then for long time it just solid and nothing changes.
small update i just copied cap to rom file and now it was flashing for some time until Bios button turned off
now i can see in boot priority PATA SS
Thx for this bios as this will give some extra life to this mainboard.
I used the bios from post #239 but I’m still having problems with the ME version number not showing up in the BIOS. Please help
@Fernando
@teeramusic :
1. The Intel Management Engine Firmware has nothing to do with the BIOS you have flashed.
2. AFAIK no BIOS shows the Intel ME version number.
3. If you want to know the version of the Intel Management Engine Firmware, you should run the the MEInfo tool of the matching Intel (CS)ME System Tools package.
@Fernando
Normally it should show https://imgur.com/hww606H
Before flashing your version of the bios, I had also flashed the bios in post #12 from @twister
But now ME is not working anymore
@teeramusic - sounds like you flashed something bad, or flashed something OK in a bad way, since your ME FW is now corrupted and you will most likely need a flash programmer to fix it (or do pinmod to unlock FD and allow ME region write via FPT - see E.1 here)
You cannot fix this with Flashback or EZ Flash, usually… You can try both ways though, with stock BIOS, and see if either will reflash ME FW region.
If you get it sorted out with stock BIOS and EZ Flash or Flashback, then reflash the BIOS from 115 only (Since Fernando removed 239 BIOS) via flashback.
Lost_N_Bios helped me with the same issue with ME you’re having. It has something to do with turning on or off the ME version view function in bios. Sorry that I havn’t the time to give details right now.
My FD was somehow already unlocked, so I reflashed the ME then used the update tool to update. Now it’s working again! Yay!

Why did he remove the 239 bios? Was there something wrong with it?
No, but I neither modify any BIOS on request nor offer any modded BIOS for everyone’s use. Within the Sub-Forum "Offers: Already modded special BIOSes" it is the thread opener, who should offer his/her modded BIOS within the start post.
EDIT: It is absolutely confusing for the visitors of this Sub-Forum, if within the same thread several Forum members offer their own self-modded BIOS. Who will decide, which one of them is the "best" or working at all?
Only the thread opener certifies, that his/her offered modded BIOS worked for him/her, because he/she has tested it in reality.
@Fernando
But your bios worked great! The previous one I had used gave me some weird NVME related warnings when I tried to enter the bios page, yours doesn’t do that. Is there any chance you can go through what other changes you integrated?
