EDIT: Samsung SSDs, which are members of an Intel RAID array, are still not detected by the tool. Look here:
This is the Magician v4.3 GUI I got with my 2 Samsung 840 PRO SSDs as members of an Intel RAID0 array:
Fernando, For 840 PRO seems also RAPID mode is available only for ONE SSD in the PC in AHCI mode. So, warning for multiple SSDs system. There are also some limitation on driver iRST driver version documented in Installation Guide V 4.3. RAPID mode does not available for RAID mode. Do you think it will be one day ?
@ 100PIER: Thanks for your additional remarks. As soon as I have tested the RAPID mode with one of my Samsung 840 PRO SSDs, I will report about my experience here.
I don’t know that, but I doubt, that SSDs will be supported, which are members of a RAID array.
1) CORSAIR SSD Tool: I confirm the CORSAIR SSD Toolbox V1.1 has the TRIM (optimize) function working for SATA AHCI mode . BUT, if the SSD structure is GPT (instead of MBR) this function does not work and report an “OS handling error”. I have not tested the ‘Optimize’ for a RAID 0 structure.
2) Acronis 2014 backup media (CD or USB) allows in Tools menus the “SSD Maintenance” i.e. an Optimize function for any SSD what ever the structure is (MBR or GPT) Under SATA AHCI mode.
Here Sir, is my small contribution to the community: It is a 1 click manual Windows Trim Command via .bat file that enables, disables & wipes/trims every form of SSD within Windows “Raid” included. I have attached a download url from my server for your review.
First off all thanks for the tool. I would like to give some information about this tool, because some user may misunderstand its functionality. This tool uses “fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify” to enable/disable TRIM functionality, which is a OS level setting. If you disable, means that the filesystem will not send Trim commands down the storage stack and vice versa. The filesystem doesn’t actually know whether this command will be supported or not at a lower level and if your controller doe not support TRIM, enabling with this command will do nothing.
-Firmware Upgrade -SSD Optimization ( Enable TRIM ) - OS Optimization ( Disable Automatic Defragmantion / Hibernation / NTFS Memory Usage / Large System Cache / Superfetch / Prefetch / System Files in Memory ) - Drive Life info / S.M.A.R.T check and more…
Welcome at WinRAID Forum and thanks for the info about the Toshiba SSD Utilities and the direct download link to the tool. Meanwhile I have added the Toshiba SSD Utilities inclusive the link to the start post of this thread.
Usage of Samsung Magician v4.5 - first impressions
Right after the installation of the new Samsung Magician v4.5 tool (the exact version is 4.5.1) I have done some tests. Test system: Mainboard: ASRock Z97 Extreme6 Storage Disk Drives:
Actually in-use system drive: 512 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD, connected to the Intel SATA3 port0, running Win8.1 x64 in AHCI mode
Alternate system drive: 512 GB Samsung XP941 SSD, connected to the M.2_1 Ultra port (using up to 4 PCI lanes), running Win8.1 x64 in AHCI mode and
Data storage drive: 2.000 GB Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 SATA3 HDD, connected to the Intel SATA3 port1
These were my first impressions:
The installation of the tool worked flawlessly.
All my storage drives were correctly detected by the tool, but the detection took round about 30 seconds.
These were the informations the tool gave me regarding my 3 Disk Drives:
Summary of the results:
Only my Samsung 840 Pro SSD is fully supported by Samsung’s Magician tool.
The Samsung XP941 M.2 SSD has been detected, but the tool was only able to show some details (Serial number, Firmware, total capacity, used and free space of the partitions).
The same happened with my Seagate HDD (as expected) - detected, but only a few details.
As the following pictures show, the tool was able to do a Performance Benchmark with all 3 drives:
