[Outdated] Recommended SSD Tools

Considered that the latest Magician version is a much simplified version, it might be useful to keep a link to the previous version as that version provides all the tweaking and optimization is not possible with version 5.0.

@elisw :
Maybe Samsung has removed the features ā€œTweakingā€ and ā€œOptimizationā€ from the latest ā€œMagicianā€ version, because they were useless or didnā€™t work for a lot of users?
According to my own experiences with Samsungā€™s Magician even the execution of this tool is risky. I got many irreparable BSODs while trying to run the first time any of the previous Magician versions. Magician v5.0 is the first version, which doesnā€™t give me a BSOD during the initialization and detection of the connected Samsung SSD(s).

agree with you but this forum is for advanced users and having an option is always good if you know what you are doing.
No encryption option, no overprovisioning option, no OS tweak optionā€¦
IMHO it is not really good to miss all those

This is Samsungā€™s own statement regarding the usage of their tool Magician (look >here<:
* Notice : Latest version of Magician software is recommended for optimal performance.

" This is Samsungā€™s own statement regarding the usage of their tool Magician (look >here<" ā€¦very ( none?) little information what this software really does for yous SSD !
I have used it in the past , but uninstalled it with the 5-version . I dont regret it at all , less " services" and other " tasks " which are slowing down your OS , while the profit of using it is really ZERO ( 0 ) !

Hang onā€¦
Since the early versions of Magician I never left it running in the background.
installed it, used all the useful options, removed it from startup and not used until there was a reason for it.
so no services and tasks running

Ok, only; the usefull options you can easy apply them yourself !
Dont need this bloated installer , you can do these things in your OS ; switch off search-service , switch off indexing , switch off hibernation , put your download-folder into another HDD instead in your SSD and some more items for saving your SSD , still dont know WHAT this 5-version really does for your SSD ā€¦

@Pete12 :
I totally agree with you.

@elisw :

My own benchmark results verify, that there is no need to run Samsungā€™s Magician, if the users want to optimize their Samsungā€™s SSDs.
By the way: Samsungā€™s biggest bluff is/was the Magician feature "Rapid mode", which gives you incredible high banchmark scores (due to measuring the RAM speed), but no real performance boost while doing your daily work.

never really used the RAPID option (well I did on a SATAII machine with plenty of RAM) but I still think is good to do all the tweaks in one single click.
I think we have to agree to disagree here.
Have a copy of SM 4.9.7 and not going to replace it.

there is a good defrag tool for hds & ssds that is free [ or not ;ā€™] : http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/
it exit in pro version : http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag-pro/
and with others tools : http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/boost-speed/

it has a lot of options for ssds , here are 3 captures

if you try it , do the custom install because it ā€œoffersā€ a lot ā€¦

@Fernando , The current version shown ( v2.2.2645 ) regarding the OCZ Toolbox according to what Iā€™ve read doesnā€™t support the Vertex 4 series.
The Version Iā€™ve found is v4.8.0.634
Assuming when OCZ sold out to Toshiba they as well discontinued further firmware updates for the Vertex 4 & Agility series SSDā€™s, correct me if Iā€™m wrong.
Iā€™ve been known to be wrong!
Thank You

Within the start post I have only listed the links to the latest SSD Tools. If your old OCZ SSD is not supported by the latest OCZ Toolbox, you should contact the OCZ resp. the Toshiba Support.

Understood Sir! Thank You :slight_smile:

@Fernando
I just bought a SK Hynix SL308 Canvas and downloaded the related software.
I must say the SK Hynix Drive Manager Easy Kit is a very useful piece of software with many options, not just for Sk Hynix drives.
might be useful to add the link at the top page.

This SSD tool is clean and easy to use.
However , it seems outdated (2015), the RAID configurations are not detected.
SATA SSDs and PCIe AHCI SSDs are well detected.
All NVMe SSDs are not detected.
