[Outdated] USB 3.0/3.1 Drivers (original and modded)

I get yellow flag after updating USB Root Hub -> Intel USB 3 Root Hub

How do i tell if the root hub is USB 3.0 and the location of it on my computer?
Because I have two usb 2 slots.
How do I know if im installing the right devices?

It is rather simple: After having successfully updated the correct Intel USB 3.0 Host Controller and having rebooted, the Intel USB 3.0 Hub Devices have lost their connection to the Controller and should show a yellow "missing driver" flag.
So the search for the correct Intel USB 3.0 Hub Devices should not be a big problem.

Im updating the right controller right, its the one i highlighted. Or is it the other two with the 8 series.

Yes, you have updated the driver of the correct Intel USB 3.0 Controller.

I understand the concern of sunbe.
I explain my experience when i have updated Intel USB 3.0 ports driven by the MS driver (in the box W10 1511) to the Intel modded v4.0.2.42

The 1st pitfall is if you want update any Intel USB 3.0 ports driver you should be aware that all the other Intel USB 2.0 ports are also managed with the same driver.
So, in my case i have had to unplug provisoirly the USB 2.0 keyboard/mouse from Intel ports to plug them on any available USB 3.0 ASMEDIA ports, so i did not lost these peripherals during the process update.

The certificate update option b) worked fine. (however some typos in the b) text does inverse ‘next’ and ‘ok’ clicking).

The controller update is not a problem, i have used the ‘have disk’ because the native driver date was more recent than the modded driver date.
Yes, reboot is mandatory after controller update.

The ‘yellow’ unknow device has to be updated with an appropriate driver.
The difficulty comes, in my case, with HUB driver selection. The choice was not really obvious between a large number of choice.
Finally i have selected the manufacturer ‘Intel’ not ‘Intel Corporation’ and then founded an appropriate entry such as:

DeviceManagerPanel.PNG

and finally got after a reboot the modded driver up and running well:

Driver_v4.0.2.42.PNG

However, i see a new item MTT was intalled automatically.

Fernando, can you explain this:

After controller update:

So I update the unknown device to Intel USB 3.0 Root Hub and things go awol, pics coming

sunbe,
yes, you have to update the driver of this ‘unknown device’ with the ‘Intel USB 3.0 Root Hub’ modded driver and this should work.

Seems to crash regardless of if i install Intel usb 3.0 root hub, usb 3.0 hub, or usb 2.0 hub to the unknown device. I guess the driver really isnt compatible with mine.
After installing hub driver: http://i.imgur.com/7Kv2O2B.jpg
Sometimes I also get device enumeration failed in Device Manager.
Any ideas?

@Fernando ,

Please, can you have a look on my last picture of my previous post about the strange Intel "MTT" USB2.0 item (Concentrateur MTT USB 2.0, modded driver v4.0.2.42 WIN-RAID CA) created automatically when I have updated to Intel USB3.0 modded ?

A performance compare between ASM USB 3.1 driver and Intel USB 3.0 driver using the same USB 3.0 key gives ASM driver 21% more performant than Intel driver.
The both drivers do support TRIM (done before each ANVIL benchmark):

INTEL modded driver:

ASMEDIA standard driver:

I don’t have an Intel USB 20 Controller lised within the Device Manager of mysystem, but I think it is ok as long as everything works.

Any idea what could be going wrong with mine?

Does the native Microsoft USB 3.0 driver works fine for all your Intel USB 3.0 ports and US 2.0 ports ?

@ sunbe and @ 100PIER:
To make the requred steps and their result regarding the installation of the Intel USB 3.0 drivers as clear as possible, I have just done some tests with my Z97 system after a “clean” install of Win10 x64.
Note: My ASRock Z97 Extreme6 has 2 different USB 3.0 Controllers:

  1. an “Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller” with the DeviceID DEV_8CB1 and
  2. an “ASMedia USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller” with the DeviceID DEV_1142

Here are the related screenshots, which show the details of the Device Manager and the Properties of the various USB devices before and after the driver update:
  • These pictures show all Intel USB devices before I started to replace the related drivers by the Intel ones:

    Pic1 Generic Intel USB 3.0 Controller.png

    Pic2 Generic Intel USB 3.0 Hub Devices.png

    Pic3 Generic Intel USB 2.0 Hub Devices.png

  • This is what I got after having successfully installed the Intel driver for the "Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller" and rebooted:

Pic4 Intel USB 3.0 Controller using Intel driver.png

Pic5 Intel USB 3.0 Hub Device as Unknown.png

  • And these screenshots were taken after having successfully installed the Intel USB 3.0 Hub driver for the "Unknown Device" and rebooted:

Pic6 Intel USB 3.0 Root Hub Device using Intel driver.png

Pic7 Intel USB 3.0 Hub Device using Intel driver.png

Pic8 Intel USB 2.0 Hub Devices still using MS driver.png

Pic9 USB 2.0 MTT Hub Device using Intel driver.png

  • After having done all these steps I tested all Intel USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports.
Result: All ports were running fine (as before the driver update).

By the way: As you can see in the 3rd picture of the 3rd screenshot row, the Intel USB 2.0 ports are still managed by the generic MS USB drivers. Here are the details:

Intel USB 2.0 Root Hub drivers.png

I swear my pc crashes after i install the Intel usb 3.0 root hub or usb 3.0 hub driver to the unknown device.

    @Fernando
After the update, as you can see in my post 286# a strange "USB 2.0 MTT Hub" item automatically has been installed.
It is like in your system.
What is this MTT stuff ?
Very strange again when we update Hub USB 3.0 this update also Hub USB 2.0 as already I reported you.

I don’t know it, but everything seems to work fine.
When you compare the screenshots showing the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" section of my Z97 Dvice Manager before and after the replacement of the generic MS USB 3.0 drivers by the mod+signed Intel ones, you will realize, that
    a) the amount of the listed USB devices (in my case: 13) has not been changed and
    b) none of the listed USB devices has a yellow flag (that means, that they all are supported by a matching driver and are working without an error).

Fernando, it would be really really great to have a performance comparison between the Microsoft drivers and the modded Intel ones.

You are right, but the question is: Who does it?
Since I don’t use USB connected storage devices very often, I am not really interested in USB performance comparison tests. Furthermore I don’t have the time to do everything myself, which is desired by the Forum members.
