[Outdated] USB 3.0/3.1 Drivers (original and modded)

According to ASMedia this driver should work on Win10 , at least its working fine on my ASUS Z97-K…

Which OS are you running?
How did you install the ASMedia drivers v1.16.45.1?
Are you sure, that you have installed the drivers, which are matching your OS?

@Fernando ,
@ USB3.x ASMedia port user’s
Here is a CDM score compare between ASMedia USB 3.0/3.1 Drivers v1.16.45.1 WHQL and Intel USB 3.0/3.1 Drivers v5.0.1.38 on ASUS Sabertooth X99 machine using for the test a USB3.0 key (Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 64GB).

I am very happy and surprise to the excellent performances from ASMedia new driver version !
I have done multiple tests and I do confirm this fact: ASMedia USB driver is better. (for info the previous ASMedia driver v1.16.44.1 did not worked (no USB key detection)).
ASMEDIA USB 3.1 port:

INTEL USB 3.0 port:

Sandisk_USB3_on_Intel_port.PNG

I’m running Windows 10 x64 (1703) 15063.14 and I used the official ASMedia USB 3.0/3.1 (v1.16.45.1) driver installer.
I can confirm that the driver was installed (without errors but USB devices were not detected).

Device Manager:
- 2x ASMedia USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller
- 2x ASMedia USB Root Hub
- Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub

I’ve used the latest driver v1.16.45.1 for the above devices.

This is clean system, but I have the same problem with driver:

1.16.44.1 - no USB device detected
1.16.43.1 - no USB device detected
1.16.42.1 - no USB device detected / device error
1.16.41.3 - works fine
1.16.38.1 - works fine

@FirstEver , @Fernando

The method I used to install ASMedia USB3.0 v1.16.45.1 was the Software Package.
I have observed that W10 Update did an attempt to do an extra additional modification of ASMedia driver which were just installed:

W10_Update_automatic_proposition_for_ASMedia_USB.PNG

I don’t understand this conflict beetween W10 (v1607 14393.969) & ASMedia driver.
I observed with 1.16.41.3 none conflict.

Please check the in-use driver of the device named "AMedia Root Hub".
I have only installed the "pure" Win10 drivers, which I am offering within the start post - with no problem at all. Windows Update doesn’t offer any ASMedia driver update.

They don’t work either on my asus rampage IV extreme x79, I think the problem with the drivers are the hub drivers because the same thing happens like the last time as long as i have the 1.16.41.3 hub installed and one 1.16.41.3 driver i can use any of the new ones for the 3 others.
What I mean 4 root hub 1.16.41.3 one usb 1.16.41.3 and three usb 1.16.45.1 and it works fine

Take a look what I found…
Driver 1.16.45.1 = 01/03/2017
Windows Driver = 30/03/2017

Is it a new driver or maybe an old driver built in Windows 10 Creators Update?

EDIT by Fernando: Screenshot resized and attached (to save space, can be enlarged by clicking onto it)

If you compare the dates of drivers, you should choose the same sort of date display manner. Both drivers are dated March 2017.

This is the date of the Win10 Build, but not automaticly of the driver’s compilation.

@Fernando ,
The ASMedia USB3 driver installation is not the problem (no error reported).
The problem is WU does offer always an extra installation just after the ASMedia up-to-date was installed via the ASMedia Software package setup.
Here is the Device Mngr screenshot:

W10_DeviceMngr_ASMedia_USB3.PNG

Your screenshot doesn’t indicate any driver changement by the Windows Update.
According to your previous screenshot WU offered an updated driver for the ASMedia USB Root Hub, but I cannot see this update on your new screenshots from within your Device Manager.
These are the related screenshots of my Device Manager after having installed the "pure" ASMedia USB 3.0/3.1 drivers v1.16.45.1 (Windows Update didn’t yet offer any new/other ASMedia USB driver):

@Fernando ,
Yes, we have the same Device Manager screenshot. All the ASMedia ports works fine.
However, the only very strange thing is WU does offer (see my post #943) and does suggest an extra update which does not make sense !!
May be in fact WU does not apply this device driver update because in my PC I have disabled (via OO10shutup) the automatic Windows Update function for drivers ?

When using the ‘pure’ driver update method this abnormal suggestion from WU does not occur !

@100PIER :
Thanks for the clarification.
I thought, that WU had really updated something regarding the ASMedia USB drivers, but I couldn’t find any change within your screenshots.

That is one of the reasons why I avoid to use any driver installer (only exception: Intel RST RAID Drivers & Software Set).
Why did you run the installer of the complete ASMedia USB 3.0/3.1 drivers package?

@Fernando ,
I had no specific reason to not use the ‘pure’ install ASMedia USB3 method.
I observe now a stucky daily Windows Update to attempt to install ASMedia Root Hub software as this morning:

W10_Update_daily_proposal.PNG

To go back to a clean situation I think have to fully uninstall the driver , let in place the native driver, and then use install the ‘pure’ up-to-date driver version…

Still does not work the driver 1.16.45.1 for asus, I have the motherboard asus rampage IV extreme and only works me correctly the driver 1.16.41.3

After migrate OS W10 x64 RS1 to RS2 I no longer get the ‘extra’ unwanted ASmedia USB3.x driver update…
This ASMedia USB3.x v1.16.45.1 driver does work fine on ASUS Sabertooth X99 and even does offer better performance (+ 4%) than native MS USB3 v10.0.15063.0.
Performance tests were done with 2 differents manufacturers (Supertalent and Sandisk) USB3 keys. For the both, ASMedia v1.16.45.1 does offer better performance.
I no longer use Intel USB3.x v5.0.1.38 driver to handle USB3.0 ports of this PC:

Sir, I have not installed these (Etron drivers) yet, but assuming they work, I cannot thank you enough because finding these drivers has been one of the more difficult and extended driver searches I’ve ever encountered. And this problem, ‘“Etron 3.0 eXtensible USB Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)” error’ has plagued me since I bought my AsRock 990FX Extreme9 motherboard back in 2013 - it’s April 11, 2017 as I write this! Except for these troublesome USB drivers, this motherboard has been wonderful. So, again, thank you for this excellent resource. I have bookmarked it and am going to email the link to my brother in case he should ever need it.

@TiberiusJonez :
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum and thank you for your rating of our work!

Please give us your feedback after having installed the Etron USB drivers (and don’t forget to mention the OS you are running).

Regards
Dieter (alias Fernando)

Will do Fernando. I just installed the driver but am in the middle of a large upload and can’t restart system until it completes… about an hour. As soon as it completes I’ll take a few actions that in the past would have caused the Etron error and let you know if it seems to be solved, and also update the post with my system specs. Thanks again.

OK…

Installed drivers to replace both Etron eXtensaible USB 3.0 Controllers and both Etron 3.0 eXtensible USB Root Hubs with your drivers. So far no errors, but it’s early. If any do pop up, I’ll update you, but it looks good so far. Thanks again. I wish there were more people like you around; this is an invaluable resource.
