Hello, Fernando.
I decided to give a try on your modded drivers for Intel. I installed the “Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver” pointing to the iusb3xhc.inf. Although i don’t see the other two: "Intel(R) USB 3.0 Hub Driver and “Intel(R) USB 3.0 Host Controller Switch Driver”. I see that you mention that the last one is only for someone who have a switch connected so no problem, i guess.
The only “Hub” that i have on Device Manager is two “Generic Hub” and two “USB Root Hub”.
Can you clarify me on this one?
I am not sure, but I think, that the "Generic Hub" devices belong to the USB 2.0 Controller, whereas the "USB Root Hub" are the ones you are searching for.
To be sure about that, I recommend to check the in-use driver of the related devices (right click onto them > "Properties" > "Driver" > "Driver Details) to find out, which ones are managed by the MS USB 3.0 driver named usbhub3.sys.
Alternatively you may open the file named usbhub3.inf, which should be within the Windows\Inf directory, and look for the names, which were given to the related devices.
Thanks for the explanation, i indeed saw the iusb3hub.sys through the driver details.
Now and if i may ask, why did you digital signed the 3.0 drivers but not the 4.0? Plus, do you use these drivers or you stick with the Windows defaults?
@ zt3:
First of all I want to thank you for your guide about how to successfully import the certificate of my digital signature. Your contribution was a big help for the users of this Forum.
I have stopped to digitally sign the modded drivers some months ago, because several users gave me the feedback, that it was impossible to successfully import the certificate. Now - after having read your interesting report and useful guide how to do it - it seems, that they have done the import of the certificate the wrong way.
As a consequence of your contribution I will add as soon as possible a digital signature to all modded drivers, which I am offering within this Forum.
Since I have recently switched from Win8.1 to Win10, I am currently using the generic MS USB 3.0 driver, but I am planning to try the Intel driver in the near future.
That’s great! Glad that i could help and i’m the one who needs to thank you for all the amazing information you keep on this forum.
In the past i always had the Microsoft defaults too, but i was curious to try these for a while now. I tried the version 3.0 and it worked good, decided to try also de 4.0 but had to disable the Driver Signature Enforcement to install them. I have a 7 Series system so i don’t know if there’s some downside of using them but since you added support for the vendor ID’s i guess we’re good. (using them at the moment and so far so good)
@ all:
Update of the Start Post
Changelog:
- new: 32/64bit Intel USB 3.0 Drivers v4.0.0.36 mod & signed by Fernando
- removed: 32/64bit Intel USB 3.0 Drivers v4.0.0.36 mod by Fernando
Notes:
- As promised I am now offering at least 2 different modded Intel USB 3.0 driver versions (v3.0.5.69 and v4.0.0.36) with a digital signature.
You can find a short guide about the import of the certificate within the start post. Please give me a feedback, whether the digital signature works for you or not! - To make the manual installation of the 3 different Intel USB 3.0 drivers (for the Controller, the Hub and the Switch devices) as easy as possible for you, I have put them into seperate subfolders with a meaningful name.
Good luck with these freshly signed modded Intel USB 3.0 drivers!
Fernando
^ Thank you, will try this when I get a chance.
Thanks Fernando for the last version.
I just downloaded and installed them following your guide and no problems, working as intended.
@Fernando
I have done the update to ‘modded and signed’ Intel v4.0 branch the USB 3.0 driver on P8Z77-V deluxe running W10 x64.
I followed your guide to import successfully the certificate for each one .cat you provided in your package.
Seems an “OK” is missing after “select Trusted Roof certification Authorities” (en français ‘Autorités de certification racines de confiance’)
However, panel control device manager found “no signature”.
I have had to do a “have disk” for the controller and the hub drivers update.
I see no PCI bus and the third step was not done.
Here is a bench result.
@ 100PIER:
Thanks for your feedback.
I will add the "Ok".
You always need to choose the "Have Disk" method, if you want to replace a newer in-box or WHQL certified driver by another one with an older date or lower version number.
The big advantage of the installation of a "mod & signed" driver is, that it can be done "on the fly" from within Win8.1/10 without the need to disable the "Driver Signature Enforcement" before doing it.
I don’t know why.
Is this update above applies to XP drivers too? Or it just fixes digital signatures and certificates?
Is USB 3.0 drivers for XP still unavailable?
Thanks
@Fernando ,
Here are screenshots.
I don’t understand why we see “no numerical signature”.
And why under W10 x64 the concept of “PCI bus” does no longer exist compared to the same hardware running W7 x64.

The answer can be read within the start post of this thread:
Yes!
You may not have told your OS, that the diital signature done by "Win-RAID CA" is trustworthy.
You should better ask Intel or Microsoft than me.
Will you start collecting USB 3.1 drivers as well? Am getting my Z170 mobo next week. I will also have the answer to the question of 2x Samsung NVMe’s in raid0 then.
Thanx for all the hard work. Do you have a “donate” link? Some greens for beer money on the way to you.
Not in the near future, because all systems with an USB 3.1 Controller are natively supported by the vendor’s driver.
Please let me know, whether and - if applicable - how it works.
A donation button is on the bottom of each Forum page.
Me blind. To much beer already…Some greens on the way. Currently on 4 forums who all want that answer. MMMMmmmmm who gets the news first??? I think Win-RAID gets it first because they actually work to make sure all the latest drivers/oroms/bioses are available and their "how to" manuals are the best.
Thanks in advance!
I smell the answer already: They have created a Software RAID0 with 2 M.2 SSDs from within Windows!
@Fernando ,
I have installed back the W10 x64 native MS drivers because with Intel Dev 3.0xx or Dev 4.0xx signed-modded drivers some USB 3 key such as STT when plugged in any USB 3.0 port produces an immediate crashes (blue screen) of W10 x64 machine.
When using MS drivers I get no crash…
By the way why two branches of drivers ?
Obviously Intel is currently working simultaneously on 2 different development branches. I don’t know why.
