[Outdated] USB 3.0/3.1 Drivers (original and modded)

Hey Fernando, I’m having issues with USB 3.0 on my ASROCK Z77 Extreme4. On Windows 7, the USB 3.0 speeds were normal at around 100-150mb/s. I tried Windows 8 and the speeds dropped to 20mb/s. I switched back to Windows 7 but now I’m on Windows 10 and the speeds for USB 3.0 are back to 20-23mb/s write. I tried installing both the v3 and v4 modded drivers and the speeds are still at 20-23mb/s. Any clue what could be going on? This is what it looks like with the v4 drivers right now:

@fates13
I have observed the same kind of poor performance of USB 3.0 key running at a level of USB 2.0 performance on a P8Z77 W10 machine.
this is clearly a driver issue somewhere with W10 machine.
I got the problems with MS native drivers.
Trying to use V3 or V4 produces other kinds of problems…

Not really. We probably have to wait until the next big Win10 update, which shall come in October this year.

@100PIER
This has been an issue since Windows 8. Since they still haven’t fixed the issue it seems like the fix will never come directly from Microsoft or ASUS. Might have to go back to Windows 7.

USB 3.0 is really ‘complexe’…

I noted that if you migrate from W7 to W10 , Microsoft let in place some hidden specific (proprietary such as Super Talent) USB 3.0 drivers in place.
When plug in the USB 3.0 key in a USB 3.0 port you get an immediate blue screen.
When plug in the USB 3.0 key in a USB 2.0 port you don’t get the BSOD and you can check on Device Manager Control panel the ‘hidden’ specific drivers are alive. These drivers are not W10 compatible.
You should carefully uninstall each one (controller, and hub), reboot, and then use the native Microsoft USB 3.0 drivers.

If you use a fresh W10 you don’t get this kind of problems because only MS native are used.

If you want to replace the native MS USB 3.0 drivers with Intel v3.0 or v4.0 branch this is another story…

For instance if you try to update MS native drivers on a X99 machine to a v3.0 or v4.0 you kill the USB 2.0 drivers at the same time and you lost the keyboard and mouse…

Is there any explanation why there is a v3 and a v4 version of the same driver for the same platform for the same USB hub? WTF?
I just don’t get it as it seems that Intel is updating those v3 drivers… could someone please explain this to me? otherwise there is no need for a v3 version anymore?

It happens very often, that Intel employees are working simultaneously on fifferent development branches of the same driver. They do it until they know, which is the better version branch.
The same happens currently with the Intel Chipset Device Software branches v10.1.1 and v10.1.2.

Hello Dieter,
I would like to extract the USB 3.1 drivers from the setup.exe. I want to slipstream them into my boot.wim file. How do I go about to do this.
Thanx in advance.

Very strange figures? Using a Kingston DRMC3/32GB flash I get the following benchmarks:
Kingston3.1 on 3.0 Port

Kingston 3.1 on USB 3.0.jpg

Kingston3.1 on 3.1 Port

Kingston 3.1 on USB 3.1.jpg

I use Intel USB3.1 driver ver 15.2.30.8

Such file name is very common. Can you give me a link to that special Setup.exe?

Yes, indeed.

Can you give me a link?

Link to driver: http://download.gigabyte.ru/driver/mb_driver_usb31_ar.zip

Kingston Datatraveler 3.1 on usb3.1
http://usbflashspeed.com/117260
Transcend Jetfalsh 3.0 on usb3.1
http://usbflashspeed.com/117268

Either I have a dud Kingston or someone is lying?

Thanks.
I was able to extract the included Intel USB 3.1 drivers 15.2.30.8 dated 07/12/2015. Which one (32/64bit) do you want?
Or shall I offer them within the start post of this thread?

I need the 64 bit, but it would be nice to put it on the start page as Z170 chipsets are now starting to come in. I will keep my eye on any updated drives and give post the links as they come available. Thanx

The related Intel USB 3.1 drivers are attached (Update: The attached package has been meanwhile removed, because these drivers are now available within the start post.).

This will be done within the next 2 hours.

Thanks in advance!

@ all:
Upon request I have added today the meanwhile available Intel USB 3.1 drivers to the start post of this thread.
Note:
The “pure” drivers can be integrated into the image of any 32/64bit Windows Operating System from Win7 up.

Update of the Start Post

Changelog:

  • new: 32/64bit Intel USB 3.1 Drivers v15.2.30.8 dated 07/12/2015
  • new: Intel USB 3.1 Drivers+Software Set v15.2.30.8 dated 07/13/2015 (already extracted)
  • removed: all original and modded Intel USB 3.0 Drivers v3.0.5.69 (the v3 line seems to be not further developed by Intel)

Good luck with these new Intel USB 3.1 drivers!
Fernando

@Fernando
Does this new driver v15.2.30.8 handles USB 3.0 as well USB 3.1 on any modern machine (Z77, X99) ?
Can we replace native MS USB 3.0 with this new one ?

… and give the Intel USB 3.0 Controllers the speed of the USB 3.1 ones???
That is just a dream, but has nothing to do with the reality.

You may be able to replace them (after a modification), but they will not work as they should.

Using USB 3.1 drivers in stead of USB 3.0 does not work. I had to install both sets on my Z170 motherboard.

@Fernando
The ASMEDIA 3.1 driver supports USB 3.1 AND USB 3.0 devices when plugged in. USB 3.0 devices runs at the speed of USB 3.0 standard, USB 3.1 devices runs at the speed of USB 3.1 device.
So, why this Intel driver USB 3.1 should not be able to do that ?
