[Problem] HowTo Flash a Modded HP BIOS?

Heya,

I’m currently trying to fix a broken BIOS on a HP desktop PC (see thread [Problem] HowTo Fix HP Z2 Mini G9 Workstation BIOS Issue? ).

My question is if it’s possible to prepare a downloaded .BIN file from HPs website for directly flashing to the chip? When looking at the two .BIN files, one downloaded and one I dumped, the downloaded one is around 2MB smaller than the dumped one. The downloaded .BIN also seems to contain data way earlier when looking at it with a HEX editor, and is zero’d out in the beginning where as my dumped one is filled with FF till a few pages down.
I’d also have to edit the BIOS and add the serial number from my understanding, however correct me if I’m wrong.
On top of everything there are 2 chips on this mainboard, one for the BIOS and one for Intel ME. However HP only provides one update package with just one .BIN inside.

Thanks already for your help!

If you want to modify an HP BIOS, you have to download the offered *.exe installer and to extract the included *.bin file as first step, but the real problem begins while trying to flash the modded BIOS.

Yeah, the .BIN extraction was easy, just the preparation for flashing is the hard part now

>Here< is a Guide about how to flash a modded AMI UEFI BIOS, but I don’t know whether it will solve your problem. Since I never had an HP system, I cannot really help you.

By the way - I have customized the thread title. If you don‘t like it, you can change it at any time by editing the start post.
