The small black ones are 10kΩ, and the other bigger one is a 0Ω resistor.
You’re very welcome, thank you, and good luck!

Hey bro, came a very long way but hit another road block ![]()
Main target: Write my custom unlocked bios ![]()
password was correct (thanks btw
), i removed it, but now the bios is acting really weird:
No storage devices found, settings never save/revert to default randomly upon reboot, cannot delete secure boot keys(“failed”), or disable secureboot in general
setup:
ch341a > 1.8v adapter > cheap wires about ~12cm
(Curious can i just use it without adapter or immediate fry..?)
Neoprogrammer
connection is decent and minimal resistance I think
This guy here:
video managed to get it reading fine by bumping voltage to 2v, i want to know whats the logic behind this/how this worked? In his video he was missing a pullup resistor though, as far as i know I put the resistor back and tested it, all good.
I didn’t write/flash anything yet, only read. Anyway i updated bios via asus EZ flash 3, same results. I’m also in a pickle, as I can’t write my custom bios or anything to the chip because verification keeps failing for some reason I can’t seem to figure out, its been 5 hours of searching and i’m at a dead end.
Tried solutions:
Resoldering wires/reseating adapter a bunch of times
0.1uf capacitor at GND and VCC
Reheating incase of loose connections/components
Different softwares
I also think maybe ch341a cant keep up with the boards current consumption maybe?
Also is 50 degrees on idle in bios normal for this device?? I haven’t even booted an OS on it yet so idk anything (amd z1)
Not sure if i damaged something along the way or just silly bios problems ![]()
If you know anything, please let me know
Many thanks!
Hi, I know some 1.8V chips need to be desoldered to be read or written (due to in-circuit programming protection, the chip needs to be fully isolated, actually its Vcc track). But I don’t think your chip is one of those. Also, since you’re not comfortable with a heat gun yet, I wouldn’t recommend going that route anyway, and yes, applying 3.3V to a 1.8V chip can damage it.
As for programmers, I don’t have much experience with the CH341A. I’ve never really used it (not a fan). I started a long time ago with the MiniPro. Honestly, I think your chip would read just fine with the XGECUs, RT809F/H, etc. But you can still try with CH341A, just make sure to go through the 3 guides already available on the forum, they might help clarify things. 1, 2, 3.
@Sparo would you tell us how to find the value of the bios pw?
I guess the simplest way to explain it would be:
Terabyte-sized databases of salted SHA-256 hashes
Hello,
Thank you very much for the guides, i found some useful information i had no idea of before
So far I’m gonna try pairing up diodes in series and adding an external psu(either a battery or powerbank) for the chip, with a common ground of course
I already have Nobora linux installed so I can use flashrom instead of the weird ratted windows programs I have, maybe it has better stability
My only roadblock for now is soldering but i’ll figure it out
**(NOTICE: Neoprogrammer and some versions of ch341a are usually ratted)

Will update you,
Many thanks!
Wait so the password isn’t stored in plain text? Or hex? hmmm
“Ratted” Well, I wonder why I’m not surprised ha! Anyway, keep going, as long as you’re making progress. Good Luck! And of course not, For these models, as I said, the passwords are hard-encoded using SHA-256. Otherwise anyone would be able to decode them.
Hello again,
Today I got very lucky and managed to make a successful flash of my unlocked edited bios, or so i thought
The chip wrote fine and everything, the device turned on, components are ok. but bios is my main problem here
What i did:
Grab stock bios file from asus website, put it into UEFI Editor tool, unsupressed all options, changed access level to 09 for all items, and then directly flashed it to the chip. The unlocked file was flashed correctly, passed verification.
**
Possible issues:**
100% Certain its my bios version
Corrupt bios? I attached it below idk how to check properly
Changing ALL access levels may be a problem..?
Missing regions? I didn’t add anything from the old bios file, some parts of it are corrupt but i’m not sure which. I attached all backups regardless (All different).
Password? I removed the password before doing any changes.
eg for my asus b560m plus wifi, I used AMIBCP instead, manually changed all values to “USER” and they showed up just fine, still running this version no issues.
AMIBCP however did not work on this asus rog ally bios, and crashed, hence i used UEFI Tool
I want most hidden settings because:
I need to disable TPM mainly
Secureboot is broken
Many other hidden optimization features.
**
USEFUL INFO:**
For anyone flashing this device, adding a 50uf capacitor to VCC and GND helped stop the false reads/writes.
Consumes ~70-80mAh because of other components.
Careful when soldering, can knock off some components because they’re really close.
Also ensure a very good connection with the wires if you’re soldering.
Neoprogrammer did the job but SOME VERSIONS ARE RATTED
Files:
Note: Fourth backup is the biggest for some reason.
FOUUURTH_BACKUIP.part1.rar (8 MB)
FOUUURTH_BACKUIP.part2.rar (8.0 MB)
third_Backiup.rar (9.1 MB)
1-2_Backups.rar (9.1 MB)
Flashed file is “Unlocked”:
unlocked_readehh.rar (8.8 MB)
Before flash:
SSD not recognized, secureboot won’t disable, some options re enable randomly.
After flash
:
I see the boot logo (not animation), but then a black screen (Where the menu is supposed to popup)
fans spin, cpu heats fine.
Edit again:
It booted into ventoy this time, it seemed secureboot disabled itself? Anyway, still cant boot into bios
Massive thanks as always!
Hi again, for this model any file properly extracted from the ASUS website should work as a BIOS. You just need to remove the first 2 KB at the start of the file (800 in hex).
Hope these files help with your last quest. The latest BIOS Version 322 on the ASUS website, your current version 336, and the newest available 442 (Of course You’ll need to fill in the DMI info, but since you’re still experimenting, you can just try these clean files for now).
RC71L_Version_322.rar (9.0 MB)
RC71L_Version_336.rar (8.9 MB)
RC71L_Version_342.rar (8.9 MB)
Thank you very much for the working bios files, gonna try flashing when the adapters arrive as soldering is very unreliable (at least for me).
What does the first 2kb of the hex include? Why and how do i remove it?
I’m curious though is there a guide on unlocking hidden bios settings on 32mb bios? Most of the useful settings are missing, AMIBCP seems to crash when loading it in. Also if you know some guides, please send them. I also have no clue how to fill DMI data without AMIBCP..
Also the SSD was the scammers fault, not bios. I tested it and it doesn’t show at all ![]()
Also thanks for helping me out thru-out this long journey, its been a pleasure ![]()
Those are capsule headers used by vendors for identification and compatibility checks. For example, they allow tools like EZ Flash to reject firmware meant for a different board, and they can also include signatures, checksums, hashes, etc. In short, it’s metadata wrapped around the actual firmware image we need, so we remove it and flash only the raw firmware.
Using HxD, select the block from 0 to 7FF and delete it to strip the capsule header. To copy the DMI for this model, select the block from 1040000 to 104FFFF in the old backup and paste it into the new file. That’s pretty much it, no guides needed.
but 0-7FF is already empty in my case (all FF). Unless i’m misunderstanding/missing something, data starts at 00020000
Also no hope for unlocking hidden settings? So far i’m waiting for the probe adapter to come in, in the meantime looking for more tools/expanding my knowledge
I was talking about the BIOS files from the official ASUS website (the BIOS section, not BIOS Update (Windows)). For example, if you extract the latest RC71LAS342.zip, you’ll get an RC71LAS.342 file with an 800h header that needs to be removed.
Also, for the settings unlock, I suggest starting a seperate new thread with a clear title like “BIOS hidden settings unlock.” Idk, It appears to me that users might think it’s ONLY a password request, which could be why you’re not getting help on the other issue.
Ahh ok
Also sorry about the off topic issues, i’ll make a new thread, big thanks for this entire journey

No It’s not off topic, you can continue here (it’s your choice)
I’m just suggesting opening a new thread with another title to attract help on the other issue
oh oke,
I made a new one anyway, thanks for the advice
New thread
Hello Sparo, I’d like to ask if you offer paid consultation sessions, either privately or publicly. I apologize for reaching out here; I’m new to this forum and it seems there isn’t a private messaging feature available. I would appreciate your guidance.
Hi, no need for that. Just let me know what you need help with, and if I can, I’ll help you.
