[Request] Apple Mac Pro A1481 Intel mcu modding

Hello friends. I’m new here. I am from Brasil and we repair Apple machines.

Recently I start a new “project” and I’m not sure if it’s possible.

I have a Mac Pro A1481, that we call “lixeirinha”, from trash basket.

The BIOS only support CPU Xeon E5 v2 family. But these processor only support AVX.

I need to install a CPU that supports AVX2, with limitation of DDR3 RAM. I find the Intel Xeon E7-8891 v3 that supports DDR3 yet. But my problem is the microcode.

The BIOS contain only the microcode of Xeon E5. I want to insert the E7 microcode, or replace another thats not in use.

I tried to follow 2 tutorials but, apparently, Apple BIOS is diferent.
I’d appreciate any tips. Thank you.

Edit by Fernando: Thread moved into the “CPU Microcodes” Category and title customized

Update microcode with MMTool, the best way.

@MeatWar I opened on UEFITools and found 8 sections from microcode type.

There is no option to replace body. I don’t know how I insert this information.

Besides, I have 2 volumes of microcode, each one with 128 kb. My new CPU microcode has 254 KB.

I tried to insert the new CPU code from HxD into my BIOS, replacing the code, but no succes.

Any tips?

I dont know any “UEFItools” but i do know this repo:
LongSoft/UEFITool: UEFI firmware image viewer and editor

now as you’re an Apple Machine “repair man”, i do advise to read it and see available tools and functions on versions released, i’m sure you’ll get there.

That’s right. I misspelled the name
