@Doc.Brown - OK, look forward to helping you on the thread once you make it.
For some BIOS edits, yes, in some ways I use AMIBCP, but generally not for any actual edits. I use it mainly to inspect options easier/quicker, but main edits or changes I would make in AMIBCP I make directly in the AMITSE/SetupData module or Setup Module instead
Setup module holds some stock setting values, and any textual changes you make in AMIBCP, AMITSE/SetupData holds any settings changes you make (ie Access Level or Failsafe/Default setting)
For any BIOS you can’t open properly in all AMIBCP versions publicly available then above edit method is the only way to do it, latest version I know of is 5.02.0031 and if your BIOS doesn’t open in that then you’d have to use above direct edits.
@Cancretto - Great BIOS still working well for you! If you flashed the BIOS using USB Flashback, then all your original board specific info will be retained in place (UUID, Serial, LAN MAC ID etc)
You’re welcome!
Ok just discovered what is AMITSE/SetupData related to,too difficult for me to understand so I will ask for your help for sure
@Lost_N_BIOS hi man, here I made screens of all the visible settings of your modded 0805 bios

Tell me if you need anything else
@Doc.Brown - it’s not as hard as it looks, it’s only looks intimidating when you haven’t played around in there before.
I explained a little how this works here, and included image of an edit example. It may not directly apply to your BIOS I’d have to check, I mean the values used for User/Super/Default, those vary between some BIOS types or BIOS series etc
[Request]Maximus XI Hero - Unlock AMIBCP
@Cancretto - thanks, I will work on this for you as time permits - OMG @ 100MB of images!?!
Thanks I’ll try to understand it this weekend, you’re right hex in really intimidating for someone who don’t understand it
9900k 906EC Is it possible to create a mod bios to unlock these hidden items? amibcp cannot be used. What is the 16hex method?
@nihil - I can make you BIOS with 906EC microcode in it, if that is what you are asking, but you need to clarify or explain since I’m not sure that is what you mean.
You also need to say what board you have. YOu also need to tell me what microcode you want used, new, or old etc, or exact version you want.
16hex method? I don’t know what you mean.
I am using apex XI board. Mainly I wish to unlock the feature of being able to toggle on and toggle off HPET High Precision Event Timer.
Microcode not affected by Specter and meltdown
I tried editing with Amibcp but failed maximum number of strings per section exceeded
I’ve already modified BIOS for HPET, TCO Timer, and SPD write, so I can mod new BIOS for you with 906EC - but you need to tell me what version microcode you want used, I don’t know what is what for Spectre/Meltdown, I only know what is latest version and what versions I have, you have to pick
I have the following, probably none before spectre/meltdown, so if you want some old one you need to tell me version then I can try to find.
84 - 2/19/2018
96 - 5/08/2018
98 - 5/31/2018
9E - 8/26/2018
A0 - 9/17/2018
A2 - 9/29/2018
AE - 2/14/2019
BE - 5/17/2019
C6 - 8/14/2019
For reference, on the AMIBCP issue, I linked here to method how to edit when this happens with AMIBCP, at post #104
REQUEST Bios Flash for ROG ASUS Apex XI Z390 (7)
I’m currently using 0xAE. Are older ones better in terms of stability / performance?
@nihil On my 8700k older microcodes are really making the difference, cpu slightly cooler and can do my usual 5.5ghz with less voltage or increase it up to 5.7ghz with more voltage , before mc max i reached was 5.5 and I had to use slightly higher voltage for that.
So yeah definitely recommend, not sure if 9900ks have a completely non patched microcode though
@hihil - what you see above is all I have, MANY shown there are older than AE version, but your question about stability/performance is not one I can answer.
@chinobino - which microcodes for 906EC are PRE Spectre/Meltdown? If they are not in my list above, can you please upload for us, thanks
Is it possible to use 0x9E? Thanks for your patience.
Any CPU with 906EC will be P0 revision and will have hardware (in silicon) fixes for Meltdown V3 & V5.
The earliest microcode I have seen is cpu906EC_plat22_ver00000084_2018-02-19_PRD_F3514131.bin which patches Spectre V1 & V2 and Meltdown V3a & V4 anyway.
You can’t really avoid it.
Thanks chinobino!!
@nihil - see above and decide, sounds like you can’t get around this, so I would advise you go ahead and use latest microcode as there’s no reason to avoid it now.
@nihil - You’re welcome. If you pick some microcode, I can put in BIOS for you with those unlocked settings, let me know
I want to use the latest microcode.
Would you mind if I ask you to created?
@nihil - no, it’s no problem, thanks for confirming which microcode you wanted used
Here is ASUS ROG Maximus Apex XI Z390 0805 - HPET-TCO-SPD mod + all microcodes updated to latest. Flash via USB Flashback only, this is stock BIOS modified (Don’t use FPT)
