[REQUEST] Biostar TB250-BTC Spectre bios microcode removal

Hello,

Unfortunately my last motherboard got bricked so I ended up buying this one, I need the Spectre microcode on this to be removed as it is causing high temperatures in my current rig. I usually flash modded BIOS using the FreeDOS method and I’m wondering if it’s a working method with this Biostar Motherboard, if this can be confirmed, thankyou.

The BIOS: https://mega.nz/#!sslhSKxY!8HVjhZwtHbnW0…aYjqrP7wVFwKZdI

Thanks in advance!

@KristjanValm - Please confirm which of these is your board (PRO or non-PRO)

http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/mb/…on.php?S_ID=865

I will download BIOS from there, unless your linked BIOS above is already modified by you?

FreeDOS is not a BIOS flashing tool, so I’m not sure what your “usual method” of flashing BIOS was, you’d have to be more specific on what tools you used in DOS and what board that was etc.
This BIOS has built in flash tool I think, check manual, I think you use F12 at startup instead of key to enter BIOS and that gets you to the BIOS flasher, where you can flash from USB or HDD etc.

What CPU do you have? And what microcode do you want used? With some CPU’s, there may not be a pre-spectre/meltdown microcode
And if I can mod BIOS for you with old microcode you need to do the following in windows if using Win8-10 or windows will replace in BIOS microcode with latest one in windows instead

@Lost_N_BIOS
http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/mb/…ID=865#download this one is my BIOS, I have the i7-7700 non - k, and I flashed on my old motherboard by making opening up Rufus and making a DOS disk. I followed this video to flash my custom BIOS:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwJS8-GTgRU

Can you confirm if this video is a viable option: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwJS8-GTgRU

Help removing the spectre bios microcode.
Here is my BIOS: http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/mb/…ID=865#download
OS: Windows 10 x64
BIOS: B25CF413.BSS 2018-04-13
CPU: i7-7700 (non-k)

Thanks in advance!

I’m willing to donate if the job can be done

I can do whatever you want with microcodes as I mentioned in your original thread. Why did you make another thread? I’ll merge both now

I thought you bricked the board? Did you get it back up and running now? ANyway, yes, I will help you tonight and make you a BIOS, please wait.

Thank you my friend the board that was bricked was a MSI board

can you confirm if it’s safe to follow this video and copy the steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwJS8-GTgRU

@KristjanValm - OK, sorry, little confused there I guess

Sorry, I do not have time, nor bandwidth, to watch a 16 minute video. But in general I would say no, whatever that is about, that is Asus board and Asus BIOS, does not apply to your system at all.
If you are asking about flashing your BIOS, the method is outlined in the manual when I mentioned to you at post #2. You put BIOS on USB Stick, and at boot time press F12 instead of key to enter BIOS and that takes you to the BIOS flashing tool

Once I have answer back from someone, about which microcode is latest pre-spectre/meltdown for your CPUID, then I will make you a BIOS

Okay thanks

@KristjanValm - here is mod BIOS, flash as I mentioned using F12 at boot with BIOS on USB Stick

If that does not change the microcode for you, then we can flash via FPT (but I will have to show you how to dump with FPT First, then I mod, then you reflash it) Do not flash this file with FPT!!
If you are using Win8-10 you must also do the mod I linked at post #2

@Lost_N_BIOS I wasn’t able to flash with the bio flasher in my bios

@KristjanValm - Can you flash stock BIOS with the built in flash tool (F12 at startup)? If yes, but not the mod, we probably will have to do using FPT.
Best method probably, make sure USB is 2.0, make sure USB Formatted to FAT32, then put BIOS on root of USB (Not in folder)
I asked a user here familiar with Biostar what is easy method for flashing mod BIOS on Biostar, hopefully he will reply by tonight.

If not, lets get started on FPT method - DO NOT use this method/info below to flash the BIOS I sent you previously, that is stock BIOS modified and should not be flashed with FPT!
You have to send me your FPT dump, then I edit, then you reflash that file only!

Check BIOS main page and see if ME FW version is shown, if not then download HWINFO64 and on the large window on left side, expand motherboard and find ME area, inside that get the ME Firmware version.
Once you have that, go to this thread and in the section “C” download the matching ME System Tools Package (ie if ME FW version = 10.x get V10 package, if 9.0-9.1 get V9.1 package, if 9.5 or above get V9.5 package etc)
Intel Management Engine: Drivers, Firmware & System Tools

Once downloaded, inside you will find Flash Programming Tool folder, and inside that a Windows or Win/Win32 folder. Select that Win folder, hold shift and press right click, choose open command window here (Not power shell).
At the command prompt type the following command and send me the created file to modify >> FPTw.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin

Right after you do that, try to write back the BIOS Region dump and see if you get any error, if you do show me image of the command entered and the error given >> FPTw.exe -bios -f biosreg.bin
^^ This is important step, don’t forget ^^

If you are stuck on Win10 and cannot easily get command prompt, and method I mentioned above does not work for you, here is some links that should help
Or, copy all contents from the Flash Programming Tool \ DOS folder to the root of a USB Bootable disk and do the dump from DOS (FPT.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin)

Or here is simply registry edit that adds “Open command window here as Administrator” to the right click menu
Double-click to install, reboot after install may be required

Thanks for replying i’ll try it out, I can flash stock BIOS.

I’ll report back in 2 days, currently no time on hand

Good to know you can flash stock BIOS, is that by using F12 at bootup as I mentioned? IF yes, but you can’t with mod BIOS, that’s to be expected sometimes, other methods needed.

Keep in mind, don’t use file I sent you with FPT, or you will loose serial, UUID, and possibly LAN MAC ID too. You will have to send me FPT dump and then I make you new edited BIOS from that.
You may need to first unlock a few things before you can flash mod BIOS via FPT too, this is why the second command there, so I can tell you what you need to do based on error you get, so be sure to show me that error (if you get one)

No rush, whenever you have time to get to this we can do
