[Request] Dell Vostro 260 - Add Ivy Bridge support

@turbo9000
1.Yes,once you flash the bios with programmer,you could not update the official bios.So I think you could find a latest dumped bios.
3.If you don’t setup the mobo in the DELL case and plug the cable,"Power Button Cable failure" and "Front I/O Cable failure" would show everytime.And you have to hit F1 to continue.
2.I think you’d better not to hit ALT+F.'cause the screen would disappear in 1 second,and you even don’t need to hit F1 to continue the "complains of system".

@Lost_N_BIOS
Hi,I wonder if the 4MB size bios you modded doesn’t work on the IVB so far?

@Lost_N_BIOS
Actually I met something interesting on some mobos.
Mobos that owns ME 7 firmware could support IVB as well,such GIGABYTE Z68P-DS3,INTEL DH61WW(old bios but support IVB), SUPOX IP61AX-Q7,SOYO SY-H61U3+ (3e).

@gloobox - yes, some ME7 can support IVY, I am not best one to listen to for advice on this, that would be DeathBringer

in the end if the bios mod is suitable for the installation and the ivy support? I already have a board the same and I would like to put a G1610 celeron on it but being ivy is not compatible, greetings from Colombia

Some guy mod the Gigabyte H61M-DS2 bios(chinafix) whic can support ivy and sandy Bridge,the mod bios below attachment file(bios 22nm Gigabyte H61M DS2 For DELL V260),it’s gigabyte bios interface.(POOR ENGLISH

Ican’t know the ME version ,because the drivers can’t fix the mod bios.

have found the bug 1 is the front panel audio interface wasn’t work normal;
bug 2 is the ME can’t run normal.

bios 22nm Gigabyte H61M DS2 For DELL V260.zip (2.82 MB)

@bxb858
The audio chip is different from DELL 260.

ye,it’s not perfect!it can work normal nearly.

i just looking for more infomation about how to update vbios from 2111 to 2119 even 2170,i just think about the GIGABYTE BIOS is work in UEFI mode,but the dell v260 a10 work in (legacy)OROM mode,can’t transfer these VBT parameter!

so bad!

@bxb858
It has nothing to do with the vbios,and the v260 also owns UEFI bios mode.

@gloobox i give up this,i just think this mod just like H110 Support G5400! naive!

Hello @gloobox , please don’t believe at nonsenses 4Mb bios sized chip won’t boot Ivy Bridge.
My obsolete machine is running Aptio IV platform and booting i7 3770 with Winbond 4Mb sized chip.
If I remember correctly for SNB to IVB you need bios (uefi) with Ivy reference code delivered from your OEM and it is Must.
Maybe just searching for something like A9 06 03 in your Bios could give you clue if the Bios is compatible.
My machine came with ME7 but good person @plutomaniac has transfered setting for me to ME8 and than finally build SPI image which is working till now.
sorry for bad English

@DaCou u means you just transfered ME7 TO ME8,Then work normally? except the vbios vbt?

@bxb858 yes it worked, but thing was, it wouldn’t work with my current Bios at that times, because it was SNB bios only.
I was bit lucky and found IVB compatible bios for my model hangs somewhere on Lenovo forum (Lenovo support site offers just SNB, which is joke)
So it worked all together.
I am 100% sure that SNB bios + ME8 wouldn’t work, but IVB bios + ME7 actually could work, but didn’t tried it.
After all I searched both bios for powermanagement driver whereas SNB was all about 206A9 patterns but IVB was about 206A9 and 306A9.
You have to search perhaps geekbench scores (it shows CPU signatures) for your Dell model and try to find out if any came with IVB cpu just for sure.
Or you can try to flash different Bios for some existing Dell IVB model as well (if you have programmer)
I am convinced that those bios images across simmilar models are almost identical.
For ME transplanting I mean it isn’t very complicated, just load to FIT instances for 7,8 version, transfer setting, build image and go.
Some of my friend even said he flashed clear ME8 without transferring or maybe ME from different machine and it went well.
Good luck
(I wasn’t messing with Vbios because it had compatible Vbios for both cpu already)
Pls let me know what’s your hardware so I can look on it

@DaCou I’ve read your another POST (Little help with update H61 chipset to ME 8 version for Ivy bridge support) ,You get the ivb support bios.

DELL V260 have not supply the bios like Lenovo. Haha,i’m naive on this problem. Reverse Assembly the bios is very difficult. I decied forgiving this mod.It’s beyond the scope of of my ability

Thank you ! best regards!

@bxb858 yes you are most likely right here.
But look on the picture, one would think some of Turkish was selling Vostro with IVB CPU?

Hi i got an Dell inspiron 620 with the GDG8Y and i would like to know if there is any easy way to use an i5 3470, i mean if its posible with and modded bios or something.

Hi all,
I know it’s old post, but I am really interested in making this work.
I have programmer and board, however i’m new to BIOS modding.
I have all knowledge in flashing/restoring but i need help with making BIOS.
If it won’t be possible with 4M eeprom, maybe with soldering 8M chip?

Edit:
in the attachment are dumped image from my mobo and original image from Dell site

Images.zip (5.09 MB)

@FeeJay
If you read this thread post you will noticed that the operation and mod never had any success in the different tryouts methods done by helpers or any testes by users.

I know, Just curious if anybody have new ideas, a lot of time has passed

Hi.
I’m sorry to bump this old topic back to the top of the list but it seems it’s the only one about what I need.
I want to get AHCI and UEFI on a Dell Vostro 260s, I don’t care much about Ivy Bridge support.
I got a bit lost on this long thread, and I don’t know what to do, what to download and try to flash.
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks in advance.
