[REQUEST] eMachines EM350 unlock BIOS

I’ve no problems to see the Boot Menu! That was only on the first test BIOS the fact. Please take a look at these 3 pictures: https://i.postimg.cc/26gDQ9rZ/Main-Off-20.png, https://i.postimg.cc/nr7t0Khw/Main-Off-21.png, https://i.postimg.cc/VLQw5h7y/Main-Off-22.png

The last 3 builds of the BIOS didn’t have any problems like the first build had!

Hope this helps you because, as I already told, my Camera has a damaged LCD screen and it’s difficult to make good pictures with it now!

Thanks.

Thanks! That image “Main Off 20” was missing from the package you sent, so was not sure if you could see Boot section or not
No worries, no new pictures needed for now!

@Quaxth - Here, mid-way done test needed, please show me root of Advanced, and also show me inside “Advanced CPU Control” (Top to bottom, may need two images)
Some of this stuff we are enabling, may not apply to your CPU (such as “Turbo” or “VT”), I am not sure outcome if you enable some setting like that?

Thanks for this one, installed and working!

The pictures: https://i.postimg.cc/wMv9SDyQ/Main-Off-23.png, https://i.postimg.cc/nrPnZMqb/Main-Off-24.png, https://i.postimg.cc/T27dnNF7/Main-Off-25.png, https://i.postimg.cc/ncXH2YtH/Main-Off-26.png,

Not good but it’s really difficult to make with that broken Camera LCD! If you need more, please let me know.

Thanks a lot. Cheers.

Please put all images in a zip, thanks.

Oops! Just after restarting that machine again into the BIOS, I saw that the Video Memory in Main Menue is gone fully. In the same Menue, now are CPU Type: [Not Detected], System Bus Speed: 667 MHz, System Memory Speed: 667 MHz, all 3 blacked out.
Advanced Menue had a lot changed now too!
In Security Menu: EVERYTHING is blacked out, could even not set any password!
In Power Menue: except for CPU Control, everything is the same (normal).
In Boot Menu: same new entrees.

All that is looking very good and easier to use.

Thanks a lot. If you need more pictures, please let me know.

Thanks a lot. Cheers.

2 more regarding my last post are added.

-----------------------

Just to explain: I use PostImage for many years already and it’s very easy and fast to use. It uses a small app, after installing located in the system tray: https://i.postimg.cc/VNYpGmbj/Main-Off-29.png. Just click on that small pic in the system tray, select on-screen what to sent like a part of a whole picture, screenshot, or whatsoever, click upload, wait a few seconds and get the link. could also save on a local drive or print. If you create (sign up) an account on PostImage, you also get an API and more. Look at postimage.org! Totally free and unlimited for pictures!

@Quaxth - Please use edit feature to add more to your post if no one has replied yet, don’t make a bunch of posts in a row, thanks
You’ll have to show me about “Video memory” I did edit it again, instead of using last edit over, maybe I was off one byte I will fix.
But yes, you should see CPU info etc above, this is part of what I wanted to see, if info was shown properly or not. They are supposed to be blacked out, this is informational showing item only.
If it’s not proper, then I will hide back, such as CPU none detected, that’s not right, so I probably will hide all again
Please show me one image of CPU-z main tab, and then one showing “memory” tab, you can open two instances side by side, that way you only need to take one screenshot.
If you do not want to install, use the “Zip” package - https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

No, but thanks, I don’t need account or anything at postimage, if I used anything like that it’s usually imgur.com
But I don’t need it to view your images, or to share mine, so not something I need

Security menu, I have not touched, that’s how it is on stock BIOS. I only edited so far, the things I asked you, nothing else, so no need to look at anything else * Edit - sorry, I forgot I did boot already
OK, thanks for the images, I will let you know if I need anything else

* Edit - Thanks, these images told me what I needed to know for now! Except I need to see the CPU-z images I asked about above
If Bus speed and memory speed are correct, I still may remove all that, since CPU type is not detected properly, these are all tied into one combo suppression item.
I could maybe hide one but not the others, but I don’t want to risk that kind of edit on this BIOS without you having programmer in hand, backup made, and are ready to recover in case it bricks.

* Edit - I see what happened on the video, well at least the hidden one. Not sure why the original one disappeared, but I will put them both back now
* Edit - @Quaxth - Here, please test and confirm, both video back to normal now?
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…636601242981629

OK, pictures uploaded as 7z here: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…257627256254674

That is 2 about CPU-Z (EM350_1/2) and 4 about the menus (Main=1, Advanced/Video Configuration=2, Security=1)

For Video it could just as it is now, no need to change again! About the Security Menu, It must be possible to set at least the Supervisor Password, better would be all!

I hope that’s what you need?!

Thanks a lot, Cheers.

Thanks for the images, I will check. I will put video back how it was when I first changed it for you, if it’s not now (That is the desired goal)
Security I have not touched yet, I will make it all available to you But, trust me, you do not want to set a BIOS password, it’s only asking for trouble down the road!

OK, I checked the images, I see FBS 667, and memory speed 667 too, so at least those are correct. Do you want me to leave that in the BIOS main page at top, or remove it all, since CPU detection isn’t working correctly?
And, I see video is still not back to proper!! I’ll put it back to that first way I edited first time, and remove this detection (maybe this is causing the issue, not sure, and you’d have to test 2-3 more BIOS for us to find out)
Here, please show me BIOS Main image again now, so I can see what video looks like, if you can see both again - This has nothing to do with video anywhere except "Main"
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…289484884471267

But, as you can see now, in that Advanced >> Video, you can change DVMT size, this is the dedicated video memory you wanted, more-so than the 1/8MB thing.
On this, can you set 384 as max now, or only 256? If only 256, I will change

Thanks for that info and suggestion.

I’m downloading and testing the latest BIOS now! All seem to be working fine again!

Regarding the Security Menue: on original all was able to set for Supervisor and User, HDD was frozen. Power On Password was disabled and that’s ok! And so it should be back! In this latest BIOS, #7, Supervisor, and IDE0 Hdd Password could be set, while User Password is blacked out. That could be OK, just the IDE0 HDD Password should be frozen. The reason for being able to set some password is easy: think about who’s using that machine in General: Kids! And Kids like playing with things around! So the Bios should be protected!

Regarding the Video Ram: the CPU and the Video Chipset can work with up to 256MB, which means 384MB will anyway not work! Leave it to 128MB and 256MB, please.

Ok, that’s for now!

Thanks again and Cheers.

Please show me image of BIOS Main page, thanks

I have not touched security page during any of this, but don’t worry, I will get to it shortly and all will be selectable to you
BIOS Password will only cause you problems down the road, or future user (ie you are giving this away)
So you wont be able to enter it later on, then next guy in BIOS is stuck - ignore it’s for kids, think about the next guy trying to reset the BIOS or fix/change something for someone etc
At least 15+ people a month are here, much more on other forums, needing BIOS password removed so they can fix a machine for someone, or to make changes in their newly obtained used system etc.
It’s a major pain, hassle, and huge issue for anyone after you, so I again advise you do not set BIOS passwords

OK, I’ll leave DVMT option to 256

Thanks for your suggestions!

In this case, were all machines going to the same place/school, I’d a lot of problems on beginning NOT using Supervisor Passwords for the BOS’s! Only, after I change that, means placing Password for the BIOS’s that changed and since I didn’t have problems with those machines regarding the BIOS! B believe me, I really know what I’m talking about in this case! I usually handle the coming software problems with remote control (RAdmin) because that school is 170km away from my home/office! For problems with BIOS, I could not use RAdmin, I have to be on the machine physically!

Maybe you could set the DVM for 128MB and 256MB? If not just leave it by 256MB only.

Sorry for maybe late answer, because I was going sleep more early last night. I’m at GMT +7H while at least the Win-Raid server is on a different Time Zone (Europe I believe?)!

Thanks a lot and Cheers!

I hear ya, just feel sorry for the next owners after that, or anyone trying to fix the BIOS for the kids later

You can set the DVMT yourself, I only was talking about adding option value of 384, instead of 128, 256, you’d have 128, 256, 384.

Please show me image of BIOS Main page, after flashing BIOS at post #29, thanks

There no next owner! I’m the only person who has the power of doing anything on the machines I gave to the school! If there would be anything the school has to give back them to me! Let say it this way: The school used those machines for free as long as they want and/or need. They are didn’t pay any Satang (Cent) for the machines, neither software, service, or whatsoever!

OK, here 2 pics: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…123257981793353 about the Information and Main. Need anything more?

Thanks for your work and Cheers.

You never know what happens in a few years
Maybe even you forget or loose password, trust me it’s a pain you do not want later. Most who help you fix that issue would charge $$ to give you the pass or remove it
Thanks for the image, no, nothing more needed now. I will do rest of unlock right now

Thanks and I understand your concern very well. But be assured, such data are very well saved and will be available if I’m not in order to do my work!

Ok, I’ll wait for the final now.

Thanks a lot and Cheers

@Quaxth - Here, please note, if you are logged in BIOS as Supervisor or User, is normally what controls if you can set Super/User password.
I never changed logged in user access level, nor can you in mod like this, except by changing boot mode maybe, I think Secure Boot would make you supervisor, or really you should already be!?!?
Anyway, I will be making this setting visible, so you can set just this and NOT password, if you wanted >> User Access Level << This has “View Only” option

I found this “text” explanation of each in an Asus BIOS for you, should be similar application any BIOS >>

"“If ONLY the Administrator’s password is set, this only limits access to Setup and is only asked for when entering Setup.
If ONLY the User’s password is set, this is a power on password and must be entered to boot to enter Setup.
In Setup the User will have Administrator rights.”"

Since this system has power on password option too, not sure how that applies/ties in with above (ie User Password would be same) << So, maybe that is why you could not set user password, you already enabled power on password?
Anyway, once I’m done, let me know what exactly you want changed in Security. I will be revealing the clear user password option too, you will have to test how easy that is (if it asks for the pass or not etc)
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…164218221238206

Thanks for that explanation.
In real, I need only the Supervisor Password to be able to set and use, not any other possibility and/or Password for something else. Simply means: the BIOS Setup could only be opened with one (they Supervisor) Password.

You see, as I was starting to deliver the first machines to the School, I wasn’t using any Password for the BIOS! And the mess was coming shortly after, and I’d like to spend a lot of time and also money for each 340km round trip to solve that problem! I then started an added to each machine the Supervisor Password: Problem solved!

So, what I need is just the possibility to set the Supervisor Password! There should be no User/Power ON/HDD or whatsoever another possibility to set any password!

So, before I use the latest (Final) Bios, and you’d opened any other Password except the Supervisor Password, I’ll not install the last built above. If you already opened such other password, please remove them, just leave the Supervisor password open for to be used.

Thanks a lot for your understanding.

You’re welcome! I wonder what kids could do in a limited BIOS to begin with, that would mess something up?
Please flash the BIOS above, take an image of security page, and show me what you want hidden, and what you want shown, circle in paint.
I did what you asked, you said you wanted to be able to set Super and User, on page two. Please clarify in an image after you flash the above BIOS, that will be much easier for me

I’ll do that later because I’ve to leave for about 5-6hour for some meeting now.

And just to tell, normally, by setting the Supervisor Password the BIOS is locked and could only open with that password. but, in the meantime, I was reading some websites about BIOS Password and saw that there some ways with ‘special’ hotkey combos, that some BIOS could still be opened if had some other password as well. As a precaution, I changed my mind to allow only Supervisor passwords.

Ok, I’ll back in the (Thailand) Evening and install and check that later BIOS too.

Cheers.
