[Request] Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED BIOS unlocked

@Jimmyme I have tried a few times - could not download from that site. Could you please use winrar or 7z and compress the file and then attach here. If it’s larger than 6 MB you can split it into two parts.

Edit: I just checked gigabyte site to see what latest bios version they have for your laptop (AERO 15 KB-7JP1130JH) and I could only find FB06/FD06. where did you get F07 ?

Hi @nickobar

Please excuse my late reply. And thank you again for all your help!
I got FB07/F004 from the Gigabyte Control Center software. Sometimes this software shows newer versions than on the website.
HardwareInfo shows it as FB07 with a Release Date of 08/03/2020
It seems to be working fine.

The BIOS Region unlocked file is attached here:
https://mega.nz/file/fcVXSAbC#AlPNTpDjLH…tPdK3NXNiWwMRbU

Please let me know if this download link does not work for you.

Thanks again (so excited).
:slight_smile:

@Jimmyme Hi. Attached is your mod bios. Be very careful undervolting.
The usual !! WARNING !! applies: This BIOS is user specific! If you are not user Jimmyme at Win-RAID.com forum, DO NOT USE THIS BIOS!!

biosregM-jimmyme.rar (5.75 MB)

Hi @nickobar
Wow, thanks so much.

I just grabbed the file. I will report to you on my findings after flashing!

Thanks again!!!

Thanks @nickobar

It worked!!!
The BIOS now has so many options that I am totally confused! LOL

But I can’t undervolt using Throttlestop yet. I think that I need to enable something in the BIOS but there are so many options that I’m not sure which one to use.
Would you have any tips for what to look for in the BIOS?

Thanks for everything. Really wonderful to see such a great bios again!

EDIT: Got it!!! Thanks for all your help. I found the settings to change.

@Jimmyme You are welcome! Glad you have access to all the hidden options now.

To unlock the undervolt menu: in bios go to Advanced tab >> OverClocking Performance Menu. Set it to ‘Enabled’. Press F10 to Save and Exit. On the next windows logon, open ThrottleStop and you should see undervolting controls unlocked in FIVR window. When you find a stable undervolt, please share the value you got.

Also, could you please tell me what are the max fan speeds (fan1 & fan2) you are seeing on the front page in Control Center?

@nickobar thanks again for everything!
I’ll share with you any info that you want as soon as I can. :slight_smile: Please sit tight!

Cheers again @nickobar

I have an Aero 15 OLED KC model, and I’m desperate to try undervolting this thing. It just runs so hot that it throttles itself when even modestly approaching high core speeds. I’ve done a full thermal replacement with Minus pads and kryonaut, and it only brought it down a few degrees. The cooling solution on this thing is just… not great. From what I can tell they are using a pure dual blower setup so cooling pads don’t even do anything.

My question is, I’d like to dump my BIOS and get undervolting enabled, what program is being used to dump it? I understand that the BIOS has to be flashed from the latest stock BIOS before dumping, and I sorta get the steps to unlock it and enable the disabled menus, but I’d appreciate any extra help here. I’m worried that I won’t do a step correctly and brick myself in the process, so any links that explain how to do this start to finish would be much appreciated. @Lost_N_BIOS you really seem to know your way around this process, do you have any suggestions?

Or @nickobar ?

@Squirrlz Hi. welcome to the club. You have raised three seperate issues: laptop cooling system, bios mod, and undevolting.

Regarding the former: can you be more specific - what cpu do you have? On the main page in the gigabyte control center you can change PL1 (orange blocks) - what core temps you are seeing in hwinfo under different PL1’s? Are you seeing a consistent significant difference in core temps under max load in anything but “Quiet” fan profile (e.g. running Prime95) ? If that’s the case, your CPU heatsink (controled by three screws) might be tilted or warped. Are you seeing sudden spikes in core temps even in Quiet fan profile? That would indicate that there is insufficent pressure b/w heatsink and cpu. Also, test if there is a specific PL1 value above which the laptop starts throttling. This would determine what your cooling system can achieve.

Regarding bios mod: please follow the spoiler ‘Dump BIOS region w/ FPT’ in this message, then compress your biosreg.bin with winrar or 7z, and attach here (or somewhere I can download it from).

Finally: undervolting. This may or may not cool the system down. I would start first with making sure that cpu-heatsink-fans pipeline is fine tuned to the best you can do.

@nickobar hey thanks for replying.

This model has the i7-10870h, and I see what looks like normal temps in Quiet, but also it seems it’s throttling the CPU down to the low/mid-3ghzs even when gaming. While the other profiles like Normal and Gaming see higher core speeds but much starker temps. I routinely get small temporary hits in the 90s in the Normal/Gaming profiles on some of the more CPU-intensive games like MMOs which triggers the PROC HOT throttle, and pretty much constant temps in the 80s. Things seem fine in the GPU-bound games.

I’ve done a thermal replacement on both the CPU and GPU using kryonaut, and I had to remove the heatsink again to replace the thermal pads with Minus pads, didn’t see any uneven thermal paste spread on the CPU. Doesn’t mean it’s not warped or unbalanced, I’ve heard that it can be a common problem with Aeros. Not sure I have the knowledge or tools to attempt to rebalance or unwarp it, though, if that’s the case. I’ll have to look into it further, thanks for the heads up.

I’ll dump my bios and upload it in the next message, thanks again for replying!

@nickobar it seems like I am unable to proceed any further. I need to disable secure boot to be able boot into RU to remove the Protected Range Registers on the BIOS, but my BIOS literally has no way to disable secure boot. The only option it gives me is to delete all secure boot keys and place it into setup mode, but from what I’ve read that’s not a good idea. I have checked everywhere in the BIOS and there is no option to disable secure boot anywhere.

@Squirrlz The option ‘Delete all secure boot variables’ is the proper way to disable secure boot in these BIOS. See official Gigabyte support page at this location: www dot gigabyte dot com/us/Support/FAQ/3001

After choosing ‘Delete all secure boot variables’ (& placing bios into setup mode) and booting into windows you can verify that secure boot is indeed disabled.

Edit: confirmed source

@nickobar I believe I have everything working now. I changed the 0x17 bit from 01 to 00 in PchSetup after disabling secure boot, then dumped the BIOS. Tried using AMIBCP to enable the menus/settings I’m looking for but I think I’m missing the step that has to be done with UEFITool, as the new options don’t show up after flashing the BIOS again with FPTW. However I have a clean backup of the biosreg.bin with only the PchSetup 0x17 unlock changed. Is there anything you can do to help me figure out how to get these menus enabled? Here is my zipped biosreg.bin with only the PchSetup 0x17 unlock bit set to 0:

Sorry I’m a month late on this, I really appreciate all your help so far.

Hey guys i used RU to change my bios variable from 0x17 to 0x0 like the instructions say but when im trying to dump bios i get error 201 in FPT anyone know a solution? secure boot and all of that stuff is disabled. Is it an intel ME issue?

Hello guys, i would be interested to unlock my bios to use throttlestop for undervolting purposes; is there anyone available still to help us unlock these? Or am i too late to the community?

@bason230 I think we might have been a little late to the party :(. @Lost_N_BIOS hasn’t had activity since January and it’s been over two weeks since @nickobar had activity here. I have the AMIBCP process down though and I’m going to attempt the UEFITool changes today to unlock the missing menus, I suppose if I’m successful I would be able to help.

@Squirrlz @bason230 @GigabyteG15Undervolt :
i am away on an expedition with very limited connection. will be coming back next week. talk to you guys soon.

Hi friends,
You are talking about the replacing AMITSE Mod (without GUIDs lock lists) , I think …
