[Request] Unlocked Dell XPS 8910 BIOS with CoffeeLake Support

Hello! I have a Dell XPS 8910 with a z170 chipset and I was wondering if it was possible for me to add coffeelake support to it? I had an i7 8700 lying around and figured it would be put to good use. All my attempts have led to not having a bootable bios

Here is the clean dump:

and here is my unsuccessful attempt at modding:

Sorry for the long reply!
You should be able to run coffelake on it, but for some reason the bios doesn’t like having other microcodes present or even missing the DC revision Skylake one. I’m also trying to mod my bios by unlocking the overlocking settings and adding Skylake and Kabylake Xeon support while leaving the regular Skylake microcode. But all my attempts of modding it led to it not wanting to post the fans just spin a little. I’ve only been able to disable ME and that’s it. It seems there is something in the bios that checks the micro codes. which is stupid because I have a modded optiplex 7050 micro that can run the e3 1225v5 I have.

Yeah no worries, do you think it’s intel bootguard?

Could be… I haven’t messed with it before though.

I inspected both of our bios dumps with amibcp and the Boot Guard feature is disabled :frowning: so it’s not that

the Boot Guard feature is disabled

are you sure?, And the Boot Guard profile is set to 5, which means immediate/forced shutdown.

I assumed it was disabled from what I saw in bcp, how would I go about changing the value?

I still haven’t had a chance to test it. It’s my mid-semester right now, and oh boy…

here, based on a clean dump, turn on it with a Skylake CPU. If it turns on, then bypassing Intel Boot Guard on FPF is successful.

Thanks, I’ll try this and get back.

They both did not want to post with an i5 6500 :frowning: i even tried with ME disabled

Here, Test the default first to ensure it boot without problems.

The default posted with video, but the bypass posts (i assume as the fans are spinning) with no video

I was reading another post and there is a chance that the pch’s that the XPS 8910 uses are burned with signatures for boot guard which we can do nothing about :frowning: (How to make modified BIOS work on Intel Boot Guard enabled device?)

I already know that stuff. What we want to use here is the vulnerability CVE-2017-5705.

Here the last thing i can figure out.

It turned on, fans were spinning, but no video.

Thank you for helping us in trying to solve this matter @karfel !
