[Request] Unlocking HP Envy x360 Laptop BIOS

as much as id like to claim i understand what was happening in your last picture, i really dont get whats wrong/ what needs to be changed.

No.
Let me explain. To successfully unlock your bios, you need to apply two modifications. First, apply technics from this guide to unhide advanced menus. It is ery simple and straightforward.
Second, disable BIOS protection. This is necessary part. I do not know what needs to be changed in the modules ,that I showed you, because no one has done this before. But I am hoping I can figure it out.

well good luck on the 2nd part, i imagined that it wouldnt be so difficult especially with a programmer.

When i did my bios mod myself i did do that first part or something very similar that i watched through i video on it. That second part i didnt realize/know would even be necessary. Is that an hp specific thing or a more general issue?

HP specific.

Is there any update on this? or is it just dead because getting past this hp issue is very difficult to do.

There are no other people who could test BIOS mods. How can I know anything without you?

If you’re still interested, I accidentally stumbled upon a modification that worked for HP 15-bc000ur.

i am still interested in getting a mod to work and if this would help id love to try it again however im currently in the middle of a school semester i dont really want to be potentially bricking my laptop like last time. Probably going to wait until i have a week long break or something. So, glad u mentioned this because at a later date id love to try this again. Lmk if there are any other interesting updates like this that may be potentially useful. Also u should probably tag me if u want me to see it in a reasonable amount of time lol.

TBH i wish i understood more of what ur image and its ramifications ment, even knowing basic assembly from my college courses i dont really get whats happening. So this allows u to get past the signature bypasses on all hp laptops? So would this use the spi flasher or would u do this through the edited bios being directly flashed or does it not matter (just wondering because setting up the spi flasher was pretty hard when it takes hours to get it to not slip off the bios chip) . Anyways congrats on the achievement of even being able to do this. @Sweet_Kitten

I know. And I didn’t tag you intentionally cause if you’re really interested getting it done you will probably check this thread again in your free time.

On HP laptops with Aptio 5 BIOS that do not use "Sure Start" technology. It is the majority of all HP laptops.

Unfortunately, it would need the spi flasher.

Yea that is fair i was checking daily until my classes this semester started lol, surprised i missed your messages until now tho. Just wondering what is “Sure Start” and how does that interfere with your working work around? Yea using the flasher is annoying but if it works i don’t mind. It just kinda sucks how hard it is to get on, plus the whole modded bios flashing this isn’t for the weak hearted lol. Glad u got something that works on most hp laptops. Im pretty sure mind doesn’t have “Sure Start” but how would i know for sure. Or you already know if it does based off what u find in the bios.
Or you already know if it does based off what u find in the bios.
You don't really need to bother thinking about it, so here are two simple explanations why it does not. First, there is no single word mention in the BIOS. Second, the BIOS was not automatically self-healed the last time it was corrupted, which contradicts Sure Start.

So what would be right way to change variables? By backing up whole bios and opening with AMIBCP and writing back with spi programmer, right?

Don’t know.

Well according to what i have seen from my own attempts to edit the bios, theres hidden options but they should have a menu and ui once ur able to access them. Also there is a program called RU that should be able to edit the values once its unlocked. I did try using it prior to trying to bios mod however the bios simply doesnt read the values i edited because of the bios being locked down. Looking up RU bios utility should give u access to the site to download it from, i used ventoy on a usb and booted from it to edit bios variables. I know it works because it can edit certain values that the bios is willing to read while its locked. If u know exactly what values to edit where it will work however finding were the values are is tricky. In order to find the locations i had to extract the part of my bios read them using IFR extractor next to the variables it usually has a spot with the location of the value within the bios. This sadly doesnt work on my machine as the values are refused while locked and the bios cant be unlocked with this because the variables that dictate that are protected as read only. So if your bios doesnt refuse to read certain values u can boot up this dos environment and edit them there. But if it does refuse the changes u need to do the bios mod. If either of you want links or files to use these tools lmk ill happily send them. I assume the SPI programmer method u said would work however cumbersome, it shouldnt have to come to that tho. Just curious @eugene28 what laptop do you have? Same as my envy or just a similar laptop from hp or a renior / newer amd based laptop?

I have HP Envy 15 2020. I need to change few values in bios. Tried setup_var_3, but it gives wrong values, so I’m thinking about modding. Gonna try ru.efi next.

Alright i wish you luck with that, lmk how it goes. Anyways theres alot of envy models hp launches every year mines also from 2020 can u give more detail on the exact model?

Curious what else have u also tried? in terms of bios modding or whatever. im not sure quite what u mean by setup_var_3 either. @eugene28

Tried CFGLock from tonymac froum. Did not work. Tried RU.efi. It did not start.
