Which newer Chipset/Mainboard works properly with Win7 x64?

This is my first post i must say because i am a new member.I need help. Since I don’t want to switch to Win 10 and 11 at all, if someone can tell me which newer motherboard can work on Win 7 Pro 64bit without any problems with drivers and other things, and maybe still on the market to buy also the same question about CPU and RAM. I asked the same question on a couple of forums and instead of someone helping me they told me that I was crazy for still using Win 7, so I hope it will be different here. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Win-Raid Forum!
To make your request more precise for the visitors and members of this Forum, I have customized your chosen thread title. You can change the title at any time by editing the first post.
By the way - Win7 and Win7 Pro are using the same drivers.
Good luck!

I have a MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI with AMD X570 chipset that works fine with Windows 7.
Unfortunately it seems you can’t buy it anymore, at least here in Germany.

I don’t know if these successors from MSI would also work:

MPG X570S CARBON EK X

MPG X570S CARBON MAX WIFI

I tested two B450 (Asus and MSI) motherboard. One with Ryzen 7 2700, and another one with Ryzen 7 5700x. They both work sweet.

I heard that Asus boards have glitched BIOS. But, I didn’t see such thing.

Depending on your board, you may need to integrate drivers into the iso before installation. Try Windows 7 image updater first.

NB: Windows 7 is still working perfectly. There is an extended kernel around to run some apps that require Win10. The performance, security and privacy is still way ahead of Win10.

Mainboards:
It is advisable to choose a model with PS/2 connectors for connecting a keyboard and mouse. It is advisable to have a DVD drive to install windows from optical disk (DVD-RW). But this is not necessary at all, it is possible to dispense with usb devices (mouse, keyboard, flashdrive), officially (100/200 series+ Z370, B365, H310C (H310R2.0)), by integrating the usb driver in the ways proposed by the manufacturers of the boards (fot example Asus EZ installer).
LGA1151: 100-series Chipset (H110, B150, Q150, H170, Q170, Z170) - full support windows 7
LGA1151: 200-series Chipset (B250, H270, Z270, Q270) - full support windows 7
LGA1151v2: 300-series Chipset (Z370, B365, H310C (H310 Rev2.0) ) - support windows 7 x64, have usb drivers. But does not have official INTEL VGA driver Intel UHD Graphics 630, a discrete graphics card is required with driver windows 7.
LGA1151v2: 300-series Chipset (H310, B360, H370, Z390) - official is not support windows 7, problems with USB drivers, and also INTEL VGA driver Intel UHD Graphics 630.

Processors:
LGA1151: 6-series (Skylake) i3-6xxx, i5-6xxx, i7-6700(k) - full support windows 7, with official driver for Intel HD Graphics 530.
LGA1151: 7-series (Kaby Lake) i3-7xxx, i5-7xxx, i7-7700(k) - support windows 7, with official driver for Intel HD Graphics 630. Minor difficulties installing updates for windows 7, but these are small things that are being solved.
LGA1151v2: 8, 9-series (Coffee Lake) i3-8xxx, i3-9xxx, i5-8xxx, i5-9xxx, i7-8xxx(k), i7-9xxx(k), i9-9900(k) - support windows 7 x64, subject to the choice of a mainboard (B365, Z370, H310C(H310R2.0)), but Intel UHD Graphics 630 official is not working, deciding to install a discrete graphics card with driver windows 7 (for example GTX 10-series).

Asus Mainboard: Z270-P, Z270-K, H270-Plus, H270-Pro, H270M-PLUS, B250-Plus, B250-Pro, B250M-Plus, B250M-A, Z270-A, B250M-K with Skylake processor: i5-6500, or i7-6700 (k), or Kaby Lake i5-7400, or i7-7700 (k). Make sure that the board has DDR4 memory.

The Z370, or B365 Mainboard would be a good choice, official support windows 7, with a discrete graphics card with support windows 7.
Asus Mainboard: Z370-P, Z370-A, B365-Plus, Z370M-PLUS, B365M-C, B365M-A, B365M-K with Coffee Lake processor: i3-8100, i3-9100, i5-8500, i5-9400, i7-8700 (k), i7-9700, i9-9900(for top ATX Mainboard).

I don’t remember ever getting such a comprehensive answer to a question on any forum. And thank you very much for that.

I would not like to do a fresh install, but to use the existing installation, so I am interested in how things would go in that case on the mentioned hardware and I note that I would like to stay on the Intel platform if possible. And thanx again I really appreciate it and it helps me a lot.

I don’t know that, you need to ask someone who understands this. It may be necessary to reinstall the OS. What is your current configuration, processor, mainboard, graphics card?
And don’t forget the BIOS settings:
Fast Boot = [Disabled]
CSM “Compatibility Support Module” = [Enabled]
Boot Device Control = [Legacy OPROM]
Boot Storage Device = [Legacy]
Boot from PCI-e Expansion Device = [Legacy]
Secure Boot = [Disabled]
Legacy USB Support = [Enabled]
XHCI Hand-off = [Enabled]
When choosing a boot disk, choose without UEFI attribution, for MBR disk markup.

MB is Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2PV (rev. 1.0),16Gb RAM 2133Mhz graphic on board because ilm not interested in games at all i’m into making music,CPU is i5 6400 2.7Ghz. Sound card ESI Maya 44 semi pro interface.

Yes, you still have a relatively normal configuration, with a quad-core processor of the modern Skylake architecture, DDR4 memory. All modern energy-saving technologies are working. It is important that you have an ESI Maya 44 semi pro sound card, what is its PCI or PCI-express connection method? Because the GA-H110M-S2PV board (rev1.0) it just has a PCI connector, which is not available on all mainboards.
Mainboard GA-H110M-S2PV (rev1.0) it is LGA1151, and supports processors i7-6700 (K), i7-7700(k) (after updating the BIOS), which are the most productive and officially compatible for Windows 7. When replacing the processor, you will not need to reinstall the system. But, in fact, the difference with your i5-6400 will not be very noticeable. Yes, the i7 works a little faster (~ 1.5 times), but do not expect a big increase in speed, in general it will be the same.
And which disk is in your computer, HDD or SSD? When using SSD, PC performance is noticeably improved, but HDD is more reliable for storing files.
The video card is needed not only for games, it’s just that intel 8.9 series processors have problems with drivers Intel UHD Graphics 630 for Windows 7. Therefore, it’s easier to use a simple video card with official Windows 7 drivers.
Modern processors 13-14-series of the same Lake architecture, that is, have the same cores under the lid, just more of them and the frequency is higher. And new so-called “energy-efficient” cores were added so that the processor would not overheat from their number. Marketing. Combined with the new look of windows 11, you might think that this is something new, modern, but, no, just Marketing. Of course, productivity has increased, but there has been a problem with cooling, and energy consumption has increased.

The sound card is PCI not express, as for the HDD, I have a Seagate Baracuda 500Gb WD 2TB SSD 1Tb and another SSD 128Gb. The sound libraries are located on the SSD for fast loading of sounds and samples and sounds of instruments, otherwise all HDDs are in a very healthy condition. The house is Thermaltake Xaser II with exceptional cooling and no MB ATX that cannot fit inside and a Seasonic 670W power supply.

Is there enough space on the SSD?
Usually, when choosing a PC configuration, they look at the recommended system requirements of the programs used, and also pay attention to user reviews of these programs on specific forums. Thermaltake Xaser II is a MidiTower, support ATX mainboard, or only mATX?
Asus B365M-C (LGA1151v2) have a PCI connector, only by design it is located in the lower part (will it be convenient to install it in the case?). But, i5-6400=i3-8100 =i3-9100, and i7-7700=i5-8400 =i5-9400.
I think everyone is thinking about updating their PC, they just want something new, to dream. For ordinary tasks, the LGA1151 quad-core processor is quite enough. And there is not a large assortment of LGA1151v2 boards on the market, the performance of LGA1151v2 processors, in fact, does not differ much from the i7-7700 (LGA1151). Perhaps you can do without it. Spending money on something more important. It’s another matter if improving productivity is really important when working in such programs on a daily basis.

I have 50Gb free on the system disk, but I can free it up because I have a 2TB flash drive for such things. The case supports full ATX motherboards. The full name of the case is ThermalTake Xaser II A5000 Plus Full Tower ATX (Black). For the motherboard, it is very important for me to have 4 RAM slots because some sounds require more than 16GB of RAM, so I would like to have at least 32Gb with gradual addition of more RAM in the future.

Asus Z270-K, B250-Pro, B250-Plus (LGA1151) for i7-7700(K) have PCI slot, and 4xDDR4.
ASRock Z370 PRO4 (LGA1151v2) for i5-8(9)xxx, i7-8700, i7-9700 have PCI slot, and 4xDDR4.
Asus B365M-C (LGA1151v2) for i5-8500(9400), i7-8700, i7-9700 have PCI slot, and 4xDDR4.
Вut where to buy?
Do you know about the Swap File in windows 7? You can try to adjust the size of the swap file on the SSD.

I know about the Swap File i could try to adjust the size. And where to buy those MBs is the main problem here i think.

It seems only on Aliexpress i could find brand new.

Asus B365M-C? Not necessarily a new Chinese one, it is possible and used, but original, in working condition.
Which connector does the monitor have (DVI, VGA(D-Sub), HDMI, Displayport)? The Mainboard must have the necessary video outputs. What about the graphics card (GTX 1050(ti), or GTX 1060, or GT 1030).

Monitor has HDMI, VGA connectors.Believe me, I’m not at all interested in GPU because my needs are not such, it’s important for me that the chip on board can reproduce 4K and that’s enough for me.

Maybe the solution for me is to somehow find one of these boards and to keep the existing CPU and if I manage to find a suitable board I just add more RAM.

Yes, mainboard 200 series work well with the i5-6400, do not forget about the necessary PCI connector for sound card ESI Maya 44 semi pro. Add models Asus H270-PRO (without VGA(d-sub)), Q270M-C, B250M-C; Gigabyte GA-Z270-HD3, GA-Z270-HD3P, GA-H270-HD3, GA-H270-HD3P, GA-B250-HD3, GA-B250-HD3P, GA-Z270M-D3P, GA-Q270M-D3H, GA-H270M-D3H, GA-Z270M-D3H, GA-B250M-D3H, they have PCI + 4xDDR4.
Yes, GA-H110M-S2PV (rev1.0) supports up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM (16GBx2).
*For Coffee Lake architecture processors (8, 9 series LGA1151v2), there is not have official INTEL VGA driver for Intel UHD Graphics 630, for Windows 7. For this reason reminded of the need for a discrete graphics card.
