AHCI & RAID Option ROM Modules

So i understood that my current version 15.2.1.2771 is fine and you better not do anything? Or go to version v15.5.2.1054 or max. v16.8.3.1003 ? what would you personally recommend to me. Thanks

Hi Fernando,

very first time to ask here. Thanks for your efforts!

I have a Supermicro X10SAT and would like to mod the bios and upgrade the RAID ROM, it is an C226.

For this, I am not sure about which version or RSTe ROM should I use. It come with an "Intel RSTe RAID ROM/EFI BIOS modules: v3.8.0.1029". A bit confused with that is my MB support V.4 or V.5?

X99 = C226? Seems not.

Welcome to the Win-RAID Forum!

To be honest, I have no idea why your mainboard manufacturer has inserted RSTe v3.8 series Intel RAID modules into the BIOS of your Intel C226 chipset mainboard.
Usually such v3 platform RSTe BIOS modules are designed for Intel X99 chipset mainboards with an LGA 2011-v3 CPU socket.
Questions:
1. Why do you want to update/replace the Intel RAID modules of the BIOS?
2. Is your on-board Intel SATA Controller running in RAID mode at all?
3. If yes, which Intel RAID driver version and which OS do you currently use?

Hi Fernando,

I have no idea too, it come from Supermicro and from the lastest BIOS, it is already there. For me, another Gigabyte Z97, it use v.13 RST normally.

For your questions, that is a long story.

I use Windows 10 (19041.450) normally and try to update with the latest build (19041.508) and It returns BSOD (Page fault in non-paged area). After applying the update and reboot, it will have bootloop without a clue.

I have LSI 9271-8i on my X10SAT, both with latest drivers and firmware/BIOS.

Ā· I try to apply the latest update (19041.508) via windows update, but resulting BSOD (page fault in non paged area), I have to rollback to (19041.450), not rollback, but to use clonezilla to restore, as I canā€™t access the safe mode, bootloop at attempt to repair screen, never see any clue.

Ā· I tried to clean install (508), with LSI 9271-8i attached and elements are there, no luck. But that is OK to have install in (450).

Ā· I tried to clean install (508), with Intel onboard, running in RAID 0 with only one drive, no luck. But that is OK to have install in (450).

Ā· storport.sys BSOD for (508), I couldnā€™t access the very first screen. But I had no problem in (450) and installed normally.

I also try to use UBU to update anything except the Intel RSTe, no luck. So I would like to have a try. I had contacted Supermicro they said I have to talk to microsoft, and no answer from MS for such a case.

Please post the in use Intel RAID driver version and the HardwareIDs of the on-board Intel SATA RAID Controller. You will find the device within the "Storage Controllers" section of the Device Manager.

Together there are 3 controllers. Normally I just use LSI 9271-8i to form 2 RAID6, and leave the others unuse and disabled. I had try and error to test on these but no hope.

Thanks for the requested details (it was difficult to see them due to current problems with the Forum software).
Since
a) the LSI RAID Controller has its own Firmware/BIOS on the related PCIe card and doesnā€™t use any RAID module of the mainboard BIOS and
b) the ASMedia SATA RAID Controller is much less performant than the on-board Intel one,
I concentrate my recommendation on the Intel RSTe RAID BIOS modules.
According to what I could find out, your mainboard has an LGA 1150 CPU socket, but a C600+/C220+ Series Chipset with an Intel RSTe RAID Controller, whose DeviceID is DEV_2826. The preferable Intel RAID drivers and BIOS modules should belong to the RSTe v5 platform.
The Company Supermicro offers for your mainboard a package with the Intel RSTe AHCI/RAID SATA drivers v5.5.0.1360, but such Intel drivers do not exist. In reality Supermicroā€™s package contains the Intel RSTe drivers v5.5.0.1334.
The latest Intel RSTe drivers, which belong to the v5 platform, are the v5.5.4.1036 ones (look >here<).WHQL for Win8-10< (>MIRROR<). The best matching Intel RSTe RAID BIOS modules are v5.5.5.1005 (look >here< and >here<).
My personally recommendation is to leave the mainboard BIOS as it is now and to use the add-on PCIe card with the LSI RAID Controller, if you want to create any RAID array. This way you will get the best performance and stability.

Great, thanks! This OROM was missing since a lot of timeā€¦
Is it the latest that supports Z170 chipset officially, right?

Update of the Start post
Changelog:

  • new: Intel RST RAID ROM v18.35.0.4635 for modern Intel RAID Controllers with the external DeviceID DEV_2822.
  • Thanks to westlake for the file.
This BIOS module has been designed for the latest Intel Chipset systems from 400-Series up. Maybe it will work with Intel 300-Series chipset systems as well.

@onuracengiz :
Thanks for the linked Silicon Image RAID ROM module dated 04/06/2006 and the NVIDIA MediaShield RAID ROM v10.0.0.34 compiled by NVIDIA in 2008.
Since I doubt, that there are many owners of such old hardware and that the related user will benefit from the required BIOS modification, I will not put these BIOS modules into the start post.
This work can be done by my successor (what about you?).

well, you are right  lets leave them in there

Hello
I need help
