[ARCHIVE] Outdated UBU Tool related Questions, Reports and Suggestions

Hello,

Would it be safe to update the CPU Microcode on my Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 motherboard? It is AMI Aptio 4.
It appears to have updated correctly per this screenshot:

I used latest Microcodes since I don’t overclock, just want maximum stability.

Questions:
1. Is latest Microcodes fine or should I use the ones recommended for Overclocking (I don’t overclock)? I have i7 2700k CPU. Want maximum stability.
2. Is it safe to update BIOS? I thought I would ask because I saw SoniX mention this on the main thread:

"Unfortunately for MSI, Asus and others with similar BIOS-structure there are some problems in updating microcode processor module with this tool. This is not a problem with ASRock, Gigabyte, Biostar, ECS."
Perhaps I should just leave system as-is since it is been fine?

Thanks!

@ zzbloopzz
1. At your discretion.
2. Safely. If the update does not take place properly, you will see immediately.
Given you my notes are out of date, since a long time update algorithm changed for the better.

If everything works well and there are no problems.

@SoniX :
Thanks for the quick response! I think I will update later this week just so that I have latest Microcodes. :c)
Thanks!
Happen to know what the latest Video BIOS would be for this board?

We have become accustomed to before the date is - #.
- date#21-08-2016 - :slight_smile:

I’ve noticed, but why? That’s just how UEFIStrip saves the microcodes. MCE doesn’t name them with the # and that’s why it’s not there when I upload microcodes. A smaller filename is important to me because microcodes from VIA and especially AMD have larger filenames. That # serves no purpose and we don’t really add it at the other number fields.

Also, UBU has an duplicate 1151 mc (without #), which can be removed. Maybe that’s why you mentioned it.

@ plutomaniac
Do not pay attention. :))

Mmm, not sure I understand. So you agree that adding # is not important? I thought that maybe there was some important reason behind the request. :slight_smile:

Yes. :slight_smile:

Would these modules be suitable to update a pcie card with the same chipset ?

@professor_jonny :
I have moved your post into the correct thread. The other one is only designed for the UBU guide and SoniX’s announcements of UBU updates.

I “think” this is the thread to ask questions.

I’ve just downloaded latest BIOS for my HERO VIII and update with UBU as usual, with the A6 is anyone having problems with reboot specifically? Shutdown and start-up is just fine but with reboot my system hangs, Qcode shows A0 show can’t decipher much from that… stock, no changes in BIOS otherwise.

I’ve only spent 20 odd minutes tonight… I’ll try more tomorrow but figure I’ll ask.
