Asus s410un Bios Mod ( 14 x411un)

Hello Everyone

I need to unlock some options in my bios. Like turn On/Off the Hyper-Threading.

I read some guides, but im little bit confused about which tools i have to use and which bios version.

Can sombody help me? Or link me a guide for laptops.

Thanks

@BadSanta80 - Is this the correct page for your driver/BIOS downloads, ASUS VivoBook S14 S410UN - https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/ASUS-Viv…/HelpDesk_BIOS/

Please check in BIOS main page, or with HWinfo64, what is your ME FW Version. Then I can try to help possibly

Thanks for the reply. The ME version is 11.7 Build 3290

You’re welcome, and thank you for ME info, is that your correct system I linked above?

Yes, but now i run this version https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-VivoBo…/HelpDesk_BIOS/ The 307.

Thanks, Please download this Intel ME System Tools package - https://mega.nz/#!GRFHjQyY!OyVZDCdMQmWku…aSvA2vsQd51wxDI
Inside you will find Flash Programming Tool folder, and then inside that WIN32.
Select the WIN32 folder, hold shift and press right click, choose open command window here, then enter the following command and then go into the WIN32 folder once done and zip up the file and upload

FPTw.exe -bios -d -biosreg.bin

Hi,
I have the same device (X411UN) & bios 307, and I’d like to unlock the advanced settings, chipset, thermals, etc.
Would you mind if I took you up on unlocking the BIOS? I’ve tried downloading the linked MEGA file, but it says that it’s not available. Could you please re-attach/upload it, so that I can dump the files in place of OP?

@cowpod - no problem! Sorry about the link, please download ME System Tools package V11 from this page in section “C” - Intel Management Engine: Drivers, Firmware & System Tools
@BadSanta80 - still waiting for your BIOS dump too, if you still want unlocked BIOS.

Thanks! I’ve attached the (zipped) bios dump below.

biosreg.zip (4.46 MB)

Thanks @cowpod - I’ll have unlocked BIOS for you shortly. In order for you to flash it in, you need to unlock “BIOS Lock” setting. Here’s my guide on that, you can start at step #6 because I’ve done #1-5 for you (info below)
[GUIDE] Grub Fix Intel FPT Error 368 - BIOS Lock Asus/Other Mod BIOS Flash

Your BIOS lock variable to use >> 0x960
Rename your .efi file to >> Shell.efi

So at grub prompt you’ll type the following >> setup_var 0x960 0x0
Once done with this you’ll be ready to flash in the mod BIOS, I’m wrapping it up now so will edit in shortly.

* Edit - Enabled Chipset, 2nd Advanced & 2nd Boot menus + disabled BIOS Lock for you so next time around you wont have to do again *unless you ever reflash stock BIOS without editing this setting first (can be done in hex or via AMIBCP, before you flash in next BIOS)
This BIOS is for @cowpod ONLY, no one else use or you will loose your board serial, UUID, DTS key and other board specific details! You have been warned!

Reflash, after having unlocked BIOS lock as mentioned above, using >> FPTw.exe -bios -f biosregm.bin

Thanks, I’ve changed 0x960 to 0x0 in the EFI shell, flashed successfully using fpt (.\fptw.exe -bios -f biosregM.bin), but I can’t get into my bios; i just get a black screen (with the backlight on). Luckily, I can still boot into Windows…

Edit 3:
I’ve tried reflashing, first to stock then modded, but i still get a black screen. I’m clueless what to do :frowning:

@cowpod - OK, stop, nothing else to do now. Sorry about this, let me check the mod over and get back to you, go ahead and flash back to stock for now.

@cowpod - here is new mod to try, this one without second boot enabled, I tried to squeeze that in previously and I think maybe it caused the issue but not 100% sure.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You were right - I can now access the advanced menu! I haven’t dug around yet, but here’s to hoping I can disable switchable graphics (or turn off GPU)!
Again, thank you so much!

Great it’s working now! I’m still not sure it was that second boot causing this, since I’ve enabled that before for other similar BIOS, maybe I missed something else instead first time around (hard to check backwards and easier to just made new mod so I did)
I probably forgot to re-edit setup to remove suppression on some menus, after undoing the BIOS lock first time around, that may be it now that I mention it.
So, if you want me to go ahead once more with the BIOS you have now that’s unlocked and working, I think I can enable the second boot menu too (there’s a few good settings there)?

@cowpod - you’re welcome!

Look here for graphics stuff -
Chipset >> System Agent
Chipset >> System Agent >> Graphics Configuration
Chipset >> System Agent >> PEG Port Configuration
Advanced >> Switchable Graphics (Muxless only option - so you may not be able to disable one or the other, I think you need muxed for that)

Before you go messing with graphics settings like this, learn how to blind flash recover your laptop, because if you loose screen you will need to reflash without seeing what’s on screen/
So setup a USB with BIOS on it, and then write down each and every keystroke you have to hit to flash the BIOS. then test it, without looking at screen do the blind flash and see if you can succeed. Then once you’ve perfected that, then it will be OK to play with these settings.

Hi
@Lost_N_BIOS Im sorry for the late reply, but i had some problems with my job.
I tried to dump the bios with fpt, but something gone wrong… when i try to type something, the command window disappears…
Thanks again.

@BadSanta80 - Once ME System Tools Package downloaded, inside you will find Flash Programming Tool folder, and inside that a Windows or Win/Win32 folder.
Select that Win folder, hold shift and press right click, choose open command window here (Not power shell). << This how you open Admin Command Prompt, and it will stay open while you type
At the command prompt type the following command and send me the created file to modify >> FPTw.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin

@Lost_N_BIOS Hi, i had to add the “open command windows here” with regedit. I think now its fine.

@BadSanta80 - sorry about that, I have a set of three links I normally provide if I think user might be on Win10, slipped my mind when reply back to you yesterday

Here is mod BIOS - http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…229455392279598
Before you can flash you have to unclock BIOS Lock as explained here in post #10 - Asus s410un Bios Mod ( 14 x411un)
Once BIOS Lock is unlocked, flash mod BIOS via FPT >> FPTw.exe -bios -f biosregm.bin

This BIOS is for BadSanta80 ONLY, no one else use or you will loose your board serial, UUID, DTS key and other board specific details! You have been warned!

Hi Thanks again for your time!
So i have to unlock the bios from step 1 to 10? Right?
And i can flash it from windows with fpt?

EDIT:
Flashed successfully but i can’t get into my bios, just get a black screen. Allowed to log into windows.

But when i try to flashback the stock bios with fpt an error appear. Error 368

@Lost_N_BIOS Ok, i think i solved it. Used WinFlash with cmd and flashed back the same bios version "X411UN-AS.307".
