You can try that, but it is no problem to return manually to the in-box driver at any time. Anyway I recommend to update the Intel RAID ROM module of your mainboard BIOS to an RST platform version (minimum: v10.1.0.1008, better: v11.2.0.1527).

Very soon I will install them onto my Z170 system and report here about my first impression. Update: Meanwhile I have installed the complete Intel RST(e) Drivers & Software Set (just for testing purposes) and didn’t find anything to criticize. Here are some pictures:

I wanted to try the v16.0.1.1008 driver but I can’t install it. It ends with the info, the system is already up to date. I’m wondering. The v16 beta worked. My system is Windows 7 64bit on an Asus H170-Pro (C230/100-series) (Skylake Intel).
@Bugger Vance : Maybe you are currently running a newer or WHQL certified AHCI driver. Nevertheless you will be able to get the v16.0.1.1008 driver manually installed, if you force the installation by using the “Let me pick…” > “Have Disk” option.
unfortunately it’s still not working. I’m getting the message: “Im angegebenen Ordner befindet sich kein kompatibler Softwaretreiber für das Gerät”. I compared the files with the ones of the latest v15 driver. The v16 driver is missing iaStorF.sys file.
Ok, this explains everything. Thanks for your report and interesting find, that the Intel RST v16 platform drivers natively do not support Windows 7 (and even older Windows Operating Systems). Due to your test result I have now corrected the related compatibility descriptions within the start post and >this< post.

There are no 32bit Intel RSTe drivers v5.3.0.1388 available. 32bit Operating Systems are obviously not supported by this Drivers & Software Set.
