Intel RST/RSTe Drivers (latest: v20.0.1.1039/ v9.0.3.1026)

Hi Fernando and thank you for your reply.
I have set the idle timeout in Windows Power options at 1 min to test. I have the task manager (with diskperf -Y enabled) and there is no activity on the raid1 volume but thez don’t spin-down after 30 minutes :frowning:
I have tested only 3 drivers because Asus give us only 3 versions :
- Version 4.6.0.1048
- Version 4.5.0.1234
- Version 4.3.0.1198

Which is the correspondance between these version and RST version (11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16) ?

So if there is no solution for this issue, I have to buy an x299 motherboard with the smallest CPU (i5 7640X) because I need 8 Intel SATA ports.
With X299 chipsets, could you confirm me that HDD in RAID1 can spin down with the latest drivers ? Which latest driver could I install on this platform ?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

The v11-16 platform Intel RST RAID drivers support DEV_2822/282A Intel SATA RAID Controllers, whereas the v3-5 platform RSTe drivers are only designed for DEV_2826/2827 SATA/sSATA RAID Controllers.

As long as you haven’t answered my questions regarding the OS and the Controllers’s HardwareIDs (look into my last post), I cannot answer this question.

OK Thank you Fernando,
the Device ID of C236 SATA Raid controller is DEV_2826 so there is not much drivers for this controller.
I run on Windows Server 2012 R2 STD
For the X299 I don’t know the Device ID when it is in RAID mode :frowning:

@anteverse :
You probably have to find out yourself, which Intel RAID driver offers your demanded feature.

Hello there I have a question regarding which of the following drivers I should use for the motherboard: Maximus VII Ranger (Z97):

13.1, 13.2, 14.6 or 14.8?

@NoviceUser :
Welcome to the Win-RAID Forum!
For users like you I have started a separate thread with the title “Which are the best Intel AHCI and RAID drivers?” Please look into the start post of that thread. At the bottom is a table with the drivers, which I recommend for your specific Intel chipset system.

Dieter (alias Fernando)

Thank you for the reply Fernando, I looked it up in the thread you linked and went with the v13.2.8.1002 for my z97 motherboard. I hope everything went right, when I check the drivers it shows the following:

Hi Fernando,

It’s been a while…

I am looking to update my work PC, which is an Asus P9X79 PRO (X79-chipset) motherboard.

I am planning to use a PCIe M.2 bracket with a M.2 SSD. I already followed to the tutorial (How to get full NVMe support for all Systems with an AMI UEFI BIOS) and applied it to the BIOS.
If I am not mistaken, I should be able to boot the M.2 SSD (in the PCIe-slot) with Windows 10 on it, right? Or am I wrong here? I never did this before, so I am kinda new to this.

My game PC at home does have a M.2 slot on the motherboard, however my work computer does not, but I want to use a M.2 SSD (through PCIe bracket) with a bootable Windows 10 on it (if possible ofcourse).

Furthermore; I still have 2 regular HDD’s connected to my SATA connectors (all non-RAID). Are the recommended drivers still:

Or are newer ones nowadays better suited for the X79-chipset?

If I followed your tutorial, I think the above drivers are still the best solution for this older chipset, rigth?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
HHawk

Hi!
I have MB ASUS X99-DELUXE-II with 2 SATA controllers - DEV_8D02 and DEV_8D62.
Info from UBU:
EFI IRST RAID for SATA - 14.8.0.2377
OROM IRST RAID for SATA - 13.1.0.2126
OROM IRST RAID for SATA - 14.8.0.2377
EFI AMI NVMe Driver present

I noticed that loading windows has become very long for my PC (Win7x64, i7-5820K 4GHz, 32GB RAM 3GHz, SSD KINGSTON SHSS37A240G). With the WPT I determined that the load to slow down the SATA-driver (+ about 40sec). I began to probe different drivers. Here are some of the results:

But the DEV_8D62 diver still slows down the loading of the system.
What SATA-drivers can you advise for this MB?

Sorry, if I chose the forum topic incorrectly…

Update of the start post
Changelog:

  • new: 64bit Intel RST driver v16.5.0.1027 WHQL for Win10 x64 dated 05/23/2018
  • new: Intel RST Drivers & Software Set v16.5.0.1027 WHQL dated 05/30/2018

According to the associated README file this driver/package only supports Intel Chipset systems with a CanonLake, CoffeeLake or KabyLake CPU running Windows 10 x64 or Windows Server 2016 x64.
Nevertheless I was able to get the driver and the Intel RST Console Software properly installed onto my Z170 system (with SkyLake CPU). Here are the pictures:

Intel RST driver v16.5.0.1027 Pic2.png

EDIT: Due to freezings I got thereafter I had to uninstalled the complete Intel RST Drivers & Software Set v16.5.0.1027. I wonder why Intel didn’t remove the DeviceID DEV_102 from the iaAHCIC.inf file.
Thanks to Station-Drivers for the source package.

Enjoy it!

Hey @npyrhone ,
Saw your PM - DUNNO.
if the issue is happening while in RAID and that device is somehow managed under the Intel RST:
in your BIOS change the ICH mode and delete the driver from the device manager. Windows 10 will boot in safe mode after 3 failed boot attempt.
In case you are installing back the RST software: before rebooting, find in regedit the VEN_8086&DEV_2822 under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\PCI</b>
(The full path may be longer or different see this post)
seek the value “MessageNumberLimit”=dword:00000080 and change the DWORD to 00000008
(that value can also be changed from the .INF itself before installing the driver anyway…)
else,
if all of this is happening without the ICH RAID, see with a search engine “bootrec /fixboot” or install back windows10.

@Pacman Do you have version 15.9 of rstcli64.exe available?

Hi
Sure, here is the 15.9.0.1015 tools.

v16.5.0.1027 dont work with Skylake right? Have z170 too.

Since the related HardwareIDs are supported, you can try them with your Z170 system. They may work with Intel 100-Series Chipset systems, but I do not really recommend to use them for PCs wth a Skylake CPU (look >here<).

OK, I remember that RST ROM/OROM and driver version should be similar. At the moment, the latest firmware/ROM is 16.3, but the latest driver is 16.5 and I just re-downloaded the latest UBU 1.69.17, so there is no 16.5 firmware yet?

@MonarchX :
You are absolutely wrong. The desired Intel RST RAID ROM/EFI BIOS modules v16.5 series are here available since 07/03/2018.
Why haven’t you looked into the start post of the related threads (>here< and >here<), before you posted?

Because I am an absolutely, undeniably, factualy, consistently and constantly proven without possibility of doubt, the very example of a failure when it comes to complexities of figuring out UBU stuff. It was only due to nothing, but pure luck, that I have managed to not mess up any rigs with UBU :D.

I did read that thread and even though 16.5 ROM was available, it was not part of either of the latest UBU releases. UBU uses this format - RaidDriver.efi & SataOrom.bin and the downloadable 16.5 is just a BIN (custom number #) without EFI. Then again, I often fail to find exactly what I am looking for when it is staring right at me.

EDIT: Oh snap! The Intel EFI “Pure” stuff is the EFI file, but why is it labeled as a DRIVER and not firmware? See, that’s a sure way to confuse people… And BTW, replacing UBU Final Sata and Raid RST module’s 16.3 BIN and 16.3 EFI files with 16.5 files does not update UBU to show 16.5. It still shows 16.3.

EDIT 2: Oh snap x2! The 170b19 version did it for me, but to my defense - it is still a DEV version! Now I just have to figure out the mystery of new “iaStorSwExt.inf” extension files…

The Option ROM and EFI modules are offered in different threads. I gave you the link to them both.

EDIT:

I suspect, that it was not UBU, but you, who made a mistake.
