Hi all, complete beginner here, so I’m sorry for asking some similar questions, just wanted to clarify a few things.
Anyway - I recently bought three 7040 SFF optiplexes to start a homelab. All three of them have the sticker inside the case with “3 ME Disabled” and for the first 2 this is the case, the MBEx hotkey setting is present in the bios but does nothing and the MBEx menu doesn’t show up in the boot menu. However the third does have the MBEx menu and I have been able to setup vPro to get the KVM working, this lead me into looking how to upgrade the first 2 computers to enable the MBEx menu and vPro.
I have read over the [Guide] Clean Dumped Intel ME/TXE Regions with Data Initialization and thought this might be what I have to do to get this working, I also read Upgrade Dell Optiplex 7070 ME from Standard to Intel Managed vPro, where osk866 did a similar (or the same, I can’t tell) thing. I dumped the full bios using FPT from Intel (CS) Management Engine: Drivers, Firmware and Tools (2-15), and ran ME Analyser over them all, getting these results;
In here I can see that the flash image tool is a different version on pc 3 (one with vPro working) to the other two computers. I assume that this isn’t going to be an issue when following the guide, or do I need to update something first.
I also think I have found the correct me firmware from Intel (CS)ME, (CS)TXE, (CS)SPS, GSC, PMC, PCHC, PHY & OROM Firmware Repositories, “11.8.92.4222_COR_H_DA_PRD_RGN.bin”?
I tried to run intel MEInfo over them for good measure but I couldn’t get this to run in windows, so I had to run it from linux, (I think I read in a thread somewhere that this might be expected though). All of them said “Unable to clean up MEInfo before exiting.” at the end, and the third pc (with vPro working) also gave “Error 107: Failed to create dependency list for features”. What do these mean and are these anything to be worried about or something to fix before I follow the guide or not.

The bios options are also slightly different in the first 2 pcs to the third one (with vPro already working), I think I have it right that by following the guide and cleaning the me region in the bios of the 3rd pc and then flashing it to the first 2, this will show all of these extra bios options??
I also want to double check that by following the guide I wont rewrite the MAC address or the serial number of the 2 machines without vPro, as I think I read in a thread somewhere that this can happen but not sure if it applied to this guide or not.
I did try to look at the bios dumps in UEFITool, which worked but it made absolutely no sense at all to me. Here are the bios dumps from FPT if anyone needs them or wants to have a look for themselves;
PC1SPI.bin.zip (8.0 MB)
PC2SPI.bin.zip (8.0 MB)
PC3SPI.bin.zip (8.2 MB)
I don’t have a CH341A programmer but I appreciate that they’re cheap and a good thing to have anyways so I’ll get one if anyone think it’ll make it easier to achieve this.
Again, sorry for asking so many (I know its a lot lol) novice questions, just trying to learn how to do this without making an optiplex sized paper weight for myself ![]()
Thanks from Australia, Lawmann10
