@XPLives Yes, I know that I can easily install any version of XP without AHCI driver if I set the BIOS of Z97 in IDE mode, but my target was not that, the BIOS is in AHCI mode before and after installing Windows XP. And for the 1st time, I did not see any BSOD. Actually, I use multiple OS in multiple SSD/M.2, Now there are 3 OS in my Boot menu, 2 are Windows 10 64 bit, and 3rd is Windows XP 32 bit. I also patched this windows XP 32bit to use the full RAM strength (32GB). And one thing, I have not used any GPT, all are in MBR. Only one problem, I could not find any driver for Gigabyte GT 1030 graphics card. I think I should downgrade to Zotac GT 710 for driver support in XP.
And you asked why I am using Windows XP. I am a Music Arranger and record technician. I use Nuendo, Adobe Audition, FL Studio, Reaper etc as DAW. I have to use several VST and VSTI for my work. I am addicted to 2 old VSTi of Steinberg, Groove Agen 2 and Virtual Bassist 2. They did not work in Windows 7 or Windows 10 (even in 32-bit versions too, but I don’t know about Vista, because it is a very bad OS I think). So I have to use Windows XP for these two VSTi.
No, it is not true that in India XP is still used because in modern Computers XP installation is not so easy. The majority are using Windows 10, and some are still using Windows 7.
Again I have a question, is it possible to find a driver for GT 1030 in Windows XP 32bit OS? If not then I should downgrade to GT 710 which have driver support for Windows XP.
@bikas Well, you can modify the 368.81 drivers using this guide and add your card’s HWID along with the card name, but then you will only have 2d acceleration working, 3d acceleration is botched.
@IntiMD , I visited that site but can’t follow what I have to do for my GT 1030, will you please guide me in detail? I have no idea about customizing drivers.
- Download this driver frm here https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverRe…px/105040/en-us
2. Unpack this exe with 7-zip (Unpack it to a folder).
3. Navigate to Display.Driver\nv4_dispi.inf, go to [NVIDIA_Devices.NTx86.5.1] section
4. Add the HWID (%NVIDIA_DEV.XXXX% = Section008, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_XXXX
XXXX is your device ID, search in devman for what the GPU HWID is.
5. Go to [Strings] section, and add this: NVIDIA_DEV.XXXX = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030"
XXXX is your device ID, search in devman for what the GPU HWID is.
Resave this file and run setup.exe
Device manager → Right click on GPU device (Either in other devices section or in display adapter section, either way it should have VEN 10DE) → Properties → Details → Hardware identificators @bikas
@IntiMD , I searched Device Manager in Windows XP and also in Windows 10 with latest graphics driver, I got same. I am attaching what I get. Now I am confused about which part I should write in place of XXXX
PCI\VEN\10DE&DEV_1D01&SUBSYS_375C1458&REV_A1
PCI\VEN\10DE&DEV_1D01&SUBSYS_375C1458
PCI\VEN\10DE&DEV_1D01&CC_030000
PCI\VEN\10DE&DEV_1D01&CC_0300
@bikas In place of XXXX - 1D01.
I’ve mentioned this before, but just to be sure. What you should expect from the driver is that there’s only 2D acceleration working for Geforce 10 Series. 3D acceleration fails!
Which patch are you using for full 32GB memory? Is this showing in your usable OS system memory?
Can you pull up your Task Manager and snapshot and upload here?
Yes for software compatibility it is better to run in Windows XP 32-Bit, even some programs do not work correctly in XP 64-Bit.
The GT 1030 would not be a good pick for running XP as it will run in the built in VGA MS driver.
The INF modification IntiMD suggested I don’t believe worked on any Pascal+ graphics card and only for Maxwell and earlier which is what that guide lists. The GT 1030 is a Pascal generation or 1000 series.
I believe I had tried that technique and the GTX 1050Ti resulted in an Error 10 Code and didn’t load the graphics driver and defaulted to the built in MS VGA driver. Any scrolling or moving of Windows you will notice jerkiness, tearing, or slow down and any program that uses DirectX might not function.
Since you are using XP and W10 you should use the GT 710 for your needs which don’t seem too demanding and works for XP, Vista, W7, W8, and W10 as all drivers are available for it. You can find this model in single slot and fanless and PCIe slot powered so easy plug and play.
None of the 32-Bit versions including Vista, W7, W8, or W10 will run XP 32-Bit software as well as XP 32-Bit.
But the Vista Ultimate 64-Bit with SP2 and the DX11 patch would be my favorite 64-Bit for usability. For gaming Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit would be enough. I find Windows 10 the poorest user interface just above Windows 8.
I also realized one other option for you for video and audio but I have not tested it but it may work for you since you are on Broadwell which might be able to use this specialized XP embedded graphics driver and HDMI audio output for your Intel iGPU.
You can find the driver link in this post.
What Are Some Cheap Quad CPU’s For 1151 or 1150
@XPLives , thanks for your valuable suggestions. I have modded the driver for GT1030 (according to the guidance of IntiMD) but after installing I did not feel any smoothness. So I changed it to Zotac GT 710 2GB DDR3 fanless, and it works fine. I am using Focusrite Scarlett SOLO USB soundcard. In windows 10 or in Windows 7 the soundcard works fine, but it does not support Windows XP, So in Windows XP I have to use the built-in Realtec soundcard. MSI Z97 gaming 7 has no legacy PCI slot, but I also installed M Audio Delta Audiophile PCI soundcard with PCIe to PCI converter. The M Audio soundcard works fine internally, every application can detect it and use it , but I can’t get any audio output from it…I can’t hear. It is not the problem of the soundcard because I have tested the soundcard in legacy PCI slot where it is fully working. M Audio Soundcard behaves same in Windows XP too.
The patch I have used is “fix128 - поддержка памяти более 4 Гб в 32-разрядных Windows (XP2003Vista2008788.110) ver 0.48 x86 [2018, RUSENG]” And i attached screenshot of Windows XP’s task manager here.
<br /><br />And again lot of thanks and gratitude to all of you, you all are so helpful and concerned! I am learning a lot from your posts. I followed your link, but I do not need NVidia audio. For my DAW I need ASIO supported Audio, realtec is not very good but supports ASIO, Focusrite is good but not supported. Is there any Focusrite support for Win XP?
@XPLives , again I am sharing some more information, some screenshots.
I have installed every single OS in single 240GB SSD/M.2, disconnecting other drives, and finally combined them in boot menu with the help of BCD 2.3
One more problem I am facing. When I boot into Windows XP, the mouse do not work(hanged), and then I restart with Ctrl+F4, after restart Win XP works fine.
@bikas
The link was for a post that included the Intel HD Graphics HDMI Video/Audio driver not nVidia. The idea was you could keep the GT 1030 for W7/W10 while using the Intel iGPU for XP Video and Audio via Intel Display Audio using HDMI.
I have copied the driver file link directly here for you.
http://web.archive.org/web/2018110217221…eng/WinXP32.zip
But I’m not sure if ASIO is supported over HDMI used by Intel, AMD, nVidia and if latency is vital then it gets trickier. I do know HDMI can handle higher quality bitrate and more channels since it combines the video and audio into one cable.
Since a lot of newer motherboards phased out legacy PCI slots starting with Z97 it was more common I do not know how good these PCI to PCIe adapters are even though I bought one myself but never tested it to see if they truly worked.
But isn’t your sound card now sticking up vertically above the bracket mount point because of the extra vertical height caused by the adapter? How are you going to close the computer case shut or do you leave the sound card loosely and no computer case?
But from what it sounds like the PCI->PCIe adapter is not working for some reason so you have two options.
Use a PCIe sound card or USB 1.1/2.0 Audio device that supports ASIO in XP.
Can you provide the link to where you downloaded that XP memory patch for the 32GB? I may have downloaded in the past or some other variants of such memory patches but so far I have not tested one but as far your own testing have you found any instability or BSODs crop up suddenly without warning?
Any programs that won’t launch when using this Mem patched XP? Instead I’ve been testing mainly Server 2003 which supports up to 64GB without patching. I’m curious to find a way to push this past 128GB and 256GB to max out DDR5 when Sapphire Rapids 7nm is available.
"I am a Music Arranger and record technician. I use Nuendo, Adobe Audition, FL Studio, Reaper etc as DAW. I have to use several VST and VSTI for my work. I am addicted to 2 old VSTi of Steinberg, Groove Agen 2 and Virtual Bassist 2."
I also dealt a lot in sound as I was a sound designer for productions and perhaps some of your knowledge would be useful to me. Are you at all using any HDMI audio output or have tested as an alternative?
Are you using any kind of sound cueing software?
Do you have any examples of your work?
What do you like about those audio software programs you listed for XP and what do you use each one of them specifically for? Are there any others you have not listed that are valuable tools to you?
I did a lot of wave editing and MIDI so these tools are interesting for a possible Youtube video production which is why XP is still valuable due to the library of software made for it which may not be available on Windows 10.
There is one other option in the distant future when Windows 10 can only be installed on modern machines if UEFI fully replaces BIOS motherboard but is not my recommendation but a possible solution in the future. You can use “MS Virtual PC” to run XP inside Windows 10 but whether the software compatibility is 100% I do not know.
As for the USB mouse issue, check the Device Manager and make sure it’s installed under the Intel eHCI USB 2.0 port and not the Intel xHCI USB 3.0 ports which you can check on the rear will have a Blue color. Make sure you are plugged into the USB 2.0 ports only.
Also regarding the GT 1030 driver INF mod test on XP. When you checked it in Device Manager did it have an exclamation point next to it and did the device say Error Code 10 or did it say it was working properly?
@XPLives , thanks for all valuable pieces of information. Though I never used HDMI audio, still I will try your link. I always use ASIO supported soundcards for software support and low latency.
I have found a good motherboard with PCI slot, Gigabyte Z370 HD3P, I have a plan to make a pc with it.
I have mounted my PCI soundcard in a complex way. So I attached a picture also. I have Cooler master HAF 912 cabinet, and there is a vertical PCI slot for riser cards with a thumbscrew. First I mounted the PCI card there. Then connect it with Startech PCIe to PCI converter, on the other side, I installed Storite Riser Card PCI-E Express 1x -16x in a 1X slot of my motherboard, and finally combined them with 4x flex ribbon. I don’t expect the soundcard will work fully in this complex connection.
I did not found any PCIe sound card within my budget. Hammerfall cards are too costly.
I downloaded the 128gb patch from rutrackers.net, but this is not available now. If you want I can send my personal Mediafire link for you.
I just patched the XP, so after some work I can say about the pros and cons. Now only negative I face that is about the mouse, after restart it works fine. Yes, it is installed in USB 2.0 port (uppermost red port beside the PS2 port).
I am glad to know that yiou work with music. I am sharing some of my works. Here are the youtube links.

I heard about virtual PC, but I don’t know how efficient this is. Still I will try.
Yes, you are right, after installing the modded driver of GT 1030 for XP, there is yellow exclamation point and I got no NVIDIA control panel.
I use Guitar Pro 5 for MIDI sequencing. It is easy than Cakewalk.
EDIT by Fernando: Inserted pictures reorganized (to save space)
Like I said, the drivers would install, but the 3D-related stuff WON’t work. This leaves it with only 2D acceleration. A friend of mine (@Illen to be exact) has got same results when inf-modding the drivers 368.81 drivers for GTX 1060 6GB. https://imgur.com/a/qdAnkt7
@IntiMD , I also got yellow exclamation mark after installing the inf modded driver. So I changed to GT 710.
@XPLives , I tested my Win XP (32gb RAM) with some Kontakt library. I load a small Kontakt library of about 1.5gb and then I get a warning of low RAM, ignoring that I again a 1gb library and the Kontakt application crashed. So I think this 128gb patch is fake info only, it does not work.

I’m not sure if Bikas could even get the driver to install. Usually there will be an Error Code listed.
IntiMD can your friend take a snap of the Device Manager, Display Adapters, for the video card open up and snap each.

Why is he using XP 64-Bit instead of XP 32-Bit?
There might be a difference as to why it’s working on the 64-Bit driver. I only tested in XP 32-Bit on the GTX 1050 Ti back in 2016.
Was the only thing your friend did was add the Hardware ID of the card to the driver INF?
@XPLives ,The modded 368.81 driver as guided by IntiMD did not show any problem while installing. But after restart I found an yellow exclamation mark in device manager against GT 1030. There are no NVIDIA control panel also. So I downgrade to GT 710 2GB DDR3 fanless version.
That audio setup can have issues which I’m afraid to say you should forget those adapters and go with a pure USB Audio approach instead or high end PCIe. I like the USB Audio approach if you also have a laptop you can swap machines.
Yeah strangely enough I have the same MB you hunted down. I can tell you the legacy PCI slot did not detect any of my sound cards. But go ahead and get the MB if you can. Let me know which BIOS version is installed on it. If it works then maybe I will update the BIOS later on and try again. A bug I noticed is I could not set the BIOS to run in single core only.
There is a Z170 model that has 2 legacy PCI slots. But I don’t know if it’s any better or works. Also any model Z170+ will have the ACPI issue. You are better sticking now with your Z97 if you want less headaches and working USB 2.0 ports.
I’ll have to test out my PCIe to PCI adapter to see if it works any better. It’s possible any legacy PCI slot after Ivy Bridge and maybe Haswell will not work anymore and maybe these adapters won’t either.
I think in your case the best choice will be using your USB 2.0 ports and a USB Audio device rather than a PCI or PCIe card. Creative Labs had two USB Audio models but I recommended in my guide the higher end one. I did not get a chance to install/test them but it also has phono recording for vinyl audio.
I did not get a chance to look at all the videos but the first one. Do you have any videos without any vocals and use pure instrumentals from your audio software? It’s hard to evaluate it with the human vocals. I have a friend who is a pianist. I don’t play any instruments just digital audio.
Also for your audio needs do you need only sound output or is microphone recording essential? HDMI is made for only audio output.
The USB mouse issue could be due to the memory patch program. I would suggest using a Server 2003 32-Bit version that supports > 4GB memory like Enterprise. Currently I tested it maxes out at 64GB which should plenty for your needs. Z97 though still uses DDR3 so you are still capped at 32GB using 4 slots of 8GB max.
