[SOLVED] P9X79 WS/IPMI BIOS Overclocking unlocked...

@dragonsun252 - Please program this in, if you can easily, if not then FPT the BIOS region. This is your original IMPI BIOS dump but with the following swapped in from non-IMPI >> setup (All), AMITSE (All) and NVRAM (2 + one removed from original)

What is outcome, brick, or unlocked Ai Tweaker and working fans?

The Above bios result in an Error 9A USB initialization is started. @Lost_N_BIOS

Did you erase before programming in? If yes, OK, accept as failure method, will have to think more about this tonight again!

I always erase and verify :slight_smile:

@dragonsun252 - one byte change test @501 IMPI, probably fail to help, but needs tested out - http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…483517737511826
This is stock BIOS edited only, no serial, MAC, NVRAM etc in there

Well it posts but still has IA Tweaker lock.
@Lost_N_BIOS

Thanks, I guess it’s not that byte I will look more into AMITSE than, since that is the only different at AMITSE/Setupdata

I can’t believe no one replied that I tagged! I’m sure they all probably have same issues you noticed with BIOS I made them, but I would be good to get confirmation of this so we know it’s not just something I did in your BIOS edits (doubtful but confirmation would be great, may have to PM them)

Also I got an actual trouble ticket in for this issue with Asus and if lucky man ill get an unlocked one :slight_smile: They sent me the new locked one and upon showing them that they where like lets see about getting this fixed. Not holding my breath though.

That would be really nice if they tell you how to get around this, it’s been so long since they sold those, they should give it up already!
Please send me a copy of the new/locked one, I think 1201 is the latest I found.

Here is the direct link for the BIOS from their ftp server :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Also if we could find a changelog that would help too.

Thanks! Is this the Ai Tweaker lock removed one, or just that latest they sent you previously? Hopefully they will unlock for you, in a 1208x so we can easily spot the change

Wait! I already have that BIO, for a while now Guess that means I answered my own question above

@Lost_N_BIOS Hello!

I’ve been having this exact board with a 3960X for over a year now. The only way I could ever get an overclock out of it, is through the windows AI suite utility which I absolutely hate using. And even that is missing tons of features.

I’ve done a lot, contacted Orion (I originally thought the bios password was set by them as they owned a lot of these boards), contacted ASUS… no one was able to help me. I pretty much gave up hope then.

I was browsing the internet tonight and decided to look this up again, and came across this thread. I’ve skimmed through the entire thing. Doesn’t seemed like you reached a good solution though… Anything came of this that gets rid of the password but doesn’t mess anything else up (I see you guys discussing fan issues above?).

I didn’t know about the old BIOS version with no password. Is that even worth trying?

@bcredeur97 - Yes, silently @dragonsun252 and I have been working on this in the background, and I’ve solved the issue, but we’re still trying to find a way around a pre-BIOS or “as soon as you enter” BIOS password prompt, but you can just click right through it.
Let me get in touch with him one last time and see where we left off with the last test sets I;ve sent him. But I can tell you now, weeks ago I solved the main issue, using the original latest 1208 BIOS for this model too, so no model switching or cross-flashing required anymore.
Due to the edits we’re doing in background, no fan issues either, since this is not a cross-flash type of edit as mentioned above where fan issues are described.

Yes, old BIOS 0401 works, no Ai Tweaker password, but I can’t speak to it’s performance, compatibility, or issues etc.
Wait a second and I will post unlocked 1208 BIOS here you can flash via USB Flashback, but it will have a password prompt, upon BIOS entry I think, you just click right past that and you’re in with unlock Ai Tweaker.

Awesome, and a little annoying prompt being the only thing left is totally cool with me. At least I’ll be able to use this board to it’s fullest finally!

@bcredeur97 - Yes, I know for sure I have solved issue to all that remains is prompt you can click through, and it’s on latest 1208 BIOS you can USB Flashback too. I may have solved that issue too, but waiting to hear back on last test I sent out.
It was a repack though, so I have my doubts it will succeed, and think all we may be able to do is unlock to point we have now, full unlock but you just have to click past password prompt.
I tried to find that to edit and tell user click through too, but couldn’t find it’s exact text location yet, and that kinda stalled me out since we’ve been wrestling this one so long and finally resolved it other than this.
Plus me not having one of these boards really slows progress too

I dug through my PM’s and found dragonsun252’s report back on that BIOS, it was as follows >> "It’s all good lol. It works great. IA Tweaker is fully unlocked. You do still get the prompt for the password but other than that Its great. Flashed Via flashback quickly too. This is a huge success!"

That edit to unlock it is a single byte change too, so easy to do but took us so long to find, probably 50+ BIOS made and tested by various users through this thread and in PM’s!!
So, let me take that BIOS, do NVME and bifurcation menu mod, and then I’ll pack it up and get it posted here for everyone

Awesome! and you’re doing NVME too! Now I have a good excuse to get an NVME drive LOL

Thank you so much, super hyped for this now :slight_smile:

@bcredeur97 - Yes, all done, uploading now! Cheap prices are better reason to get NVME drive You can even use cheap $4 PCIE adapter like this - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GPBBCGS
Here is change log, uploading now

1. Single byte edit @ Setup GUID 97E409E6-4CC1-11D9-81F6-000000000000 = Ai Tweaker Unlocked! Prompt remains >> Click-through
2. NVME v4 Mod insert
3. BIOS Menu Bifurcation mods applied

Flash via USB Flashback ONLY, do not FPT, this is stock BIOS base

Asus P9X79-WS-IPMI-1208-Ai-Tweaker-Unlock-Mod2-UPD-NVME-Bifurcation << *** On Pause, Chassis Intrusion error/issue!!
Please see post 125 for plain Ai Tweaker unlock or 127 for Ai Tweaker unlock + NVME mod instead for now, I will redo full bifurcation edit later and edit back into this post

@MMFC378 @Nuckyy @Bill1024 @HaroldtheWeird @hENNNi @BeefSupreme

See above, for some of you, that we edited BIOS to modify BIOS ID/Flashback modules, we’ll need to do the reverse of that again, if you want to go back to the proper IMPI BIOS for your board now.
For anyone that didn’t have a BIOS like that made by me previously, then you can use the above BIOS now via USB Flashback.

This is just awesome. Those *uckers @anus should offer you a coding job.
Just imagine what would be possible with internal docs…

@mukke - Thanks They wouldn’t want me to work there, they would fire me for revealing BIOS stuff they want hidden
This is simple edit they could have done for users at any time, nothing special. I mean it’s hidden by them on purpose, so they obviously know what byte to change to disable it, probably the actual proper way too (not how I did)
Yes, I would love some internal AMI BIOS documents, and internal docs on BIOS methods by manufacturers too, I’m sure they have a good cheat and golden nuggets tip sheet for everyone to reference.

i guess they would muzzle you by signing nda or sth the like…
also, wouldn’t it be naive to think it’s not hidden on purpose?

presumably they know of whole lot of other bits as well…
- Honi soit qui mal y pense. <-sounds french to me but leo says that’s a translation of an old german phrase

unfortunately not for publicity (but i’ll add it to my wish list for christmas nevertheless)
