Yes, write back cache is enabled.
No, but the RST Console obviously doesn’t offer that option for your RAID5 array (maybe because it is not your system drive?).
Ok, so can I use a SSD to enable Smart Response on my raid 5 array, or is this technology only available for raid 0 ?
Performance details of this BIOS [Tool] “UEFI BIOS Updater” (UBU) (88)
Both BIOSes contains only one CPU Microcode!
Before cross-platform upgrade or downgrade CPU (Sandy Bridge -> Ivy Bridge), please flash default BIOS from Asus website! Please reinstall Intel ME (Management Engine) driver after updating BIOS.
SSD benchmark results it’s faster than my old review from November 2010 on ICH10R. Boot-up time seems faster, but I don’t measure it before OROM update.

Comments: UBU was very easy to use, Not sure about the marvel orom/efi driver because the utility never started/updated before windows booted, I have all the bios settings for it set to enabled and the option is set to “force bios” instead of “keep current”. The only real problem I had was the bios flash-back button was stuck down, having never used it before I wasn’t sure if this was a feature and that it would pop up once flashing was complete. As a result I flashed the bios I don’t know how many times over 15 minutes before I pried the button loose with a dull exacto blade The lights never showed any errors on any of the consecutive flashes
Not entirely sure what the overclockers version of microcode does, read that it reduces voltage and or increases system stability, I don’t really overclock just have turbo mode set which boosts me from 3500 MHz to 3900 and the ram is 2400 MHz where the system stock is 1333. Many Thanks ! and Much Love ! for all the tools and guides and posts. I would of never attempted any of this without them ! Attached are the original and updated bios
@ JollyGreenJoint:
Thanks for your report, which is already added to the BIOS Modding Success/Failure table.
Due to the limited place within the table and your unsure Marvell RAID results (the Marvell SATA Controller has to be set to AHCI/RAID mode), I did not overtake all details from your report.
Confirmed Marvel update, bios version : 1.0.0.1038 , Firmware : 2.3.0.1006
System hangs a little on startup, testing further, if it remains I will reflash new bios without updated marvel module/efi
Flashed new bios without marvel update, system doesn’t hang.
CrystalDisk bench on the raid0 13.1 drivers and orom/efi
You may try to connect the HDD to any of the Intel SATA2 ports (running in RAID mode) and to disable the Marvell SATA Controller.

(Intel RAID 14.0.0.2198; JMicron RAID 1.0.8.01; Realtek LAN 2.61 -> no problems / all ROMs tested (Intel ROM tested in RAID1 mode with an original 13.6.2.1001 Drivers)
Vendor and exact Name of the mainboard/pc/notebook: ASRock X79 Extreme4
System Type (MB=mainboard, PC=personal computer, NB=notebook, BB=barbone): MB
Chipset and Southbridge of the system: X79
Vendor, Sort and Version of the inserted PCI ROM or EFI module: Intel RST v13.5.0.2164 + Intel RSTe 4.1.0.1026 + ASMedia 0.951 + Broadcom PXE 16.8.0/16.8.5 + all microcodes for IB-E and SB-E.
Success: Yes
optional: see this post
The microcode updates add 2 processors (CPUID 6E7 and 6E0, if I remember correct).
PS: Intel MEI update seems to be impossible. Everything says that it wenk good, but in the end, it’s the same version as before (8.1.40.XXXX 1.5Mb).
Intel MEI is integrated in the BIOS ROM, but I am afraid that something goes terribly wrong if I change the image there…
PPS: I have updated the ASMedia ROM to v3.80 (supplied by UBU). v0.951 does show a screen with detected drives before booting, v3.80 does not.
However, SATA hotplug is now working withing a couple of seconds with 2TB drives. With v0.93 (ASRock default) I had to reboot for a proper detection.
@ KRyouCK, @ mr_nuub:
Thanks for your reports, which I have already transfered into the BIOS Update Success/Failure table.
I have flashed my HTPC with the newly modded BIOS. Here are the results:
Vendor and exact Name of the mainboard/pc/notebook: ASUS E45M1-I Deluxe
System Type (MB=mainboard, PC=personal computer, NB=notebook, BB=barbone): MB
Chipset and Southbridge of the system: AMD FCH A50M (Hudson M1)
Vendor, Sort and Version of the inserted PCI ROM or EFI module: OROM AMD RAID MISC 4392 3.3.1540.19 + OROM Realtek Boot Agent 2.61
Success: Yes
This mainboard has an AMD E-450 APU soldered to it. It boots a few seconds faster now.
BTW: it only supports IDE and AHCI configuration, but there is no AHCI ROM. There is only a RAID OROM.
BIOS version 0504, default AMD RAID OROM 3.2.
@ mr_nuub:
Thanks for your report, but I will not put it into the “BIOS Modding Success/Failure” table. Due to the missing RAID option of your system you obviously were not able to verify the “success” of the AMD RAID ROM update.
Updated bios motherboard Asus P8H77-M PRO.
The details of the update on the screen shots:
* SLIC v2.1 added certificate
Asus P8H77-M PRO modified - download

Vendor and exact Name of the mainboard/pc/notebook: ASUS M2N-MX
System Type (MB=mainboard, PC=personal computer, NB=notebook, BB=barbone): MB
Chipset and Southbridge of the system: nVidia GeForce 6100/nForce 430 (MCP61)
Vendor, Sort and Version of the inserted PCI ROM or EFI module: nVidia MediaShield 10.0.0.35
Success: Yes
The download page states Award BIOS, but it is an AMI BIOS.
I had to edit the OROM with device ID 10DE:03EF, but MMTool stated 10DE:03F6 (or something else with a 6).
To use a HDD as single drive, you have to set it to stripe and make it bootable in the OROM utility.
Otherwise it would not show up in BIOS.
BTW: The modded drivers v11 loaded in Windows setup (load drivers from removable media).
And the whole driver pack installed without problems.
After installing a nVidia graphics driver, you have to run the raidtool setup again.
Otherwise the nVidia Control Panel would crash everytime you click one of the storage pages.
PS: I used BIOS version 1004 and installed Windows7 32bit.
@ k.bomb81, @ mr_nuub:
Thanks for your reports, which are now put into the “BIOS Modding Success/Failure” table.
Due to the limited space I have only inserted the most important BIOS modding details.
Vendor and exact Name of the mainboard/pc/notebook: Asus Z87-Plus
System Type (MB=mainboard, PC=personal computer, NB=notebook, BB=barbone): MB
Chipset and Southbridge of the system: Z87
Vendor, Sort and Version of the inserted PCI ROM or EFI module: all Latest Modules in UBU for Haswell
Success: Yes
Slic 2.1 added
Asus Z87-Plus mod download
@ scotter77:
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum and thanks for your report!
Please let us know, which Option ROM/EFI modules and which version you have inserted and successfully tested or used. Otherwise the “success” message does not really help other users with a Z87 system, who will look into the “BIOS Modding Success/Failure Table” next year (the UBU tool modules are very often updated!).
