Yo i’ve been into tweaking for a long time now OS side and as i’m getting deeper into the tweaking scene im seeing people with modded bioses who have allot of different c state options and such.
Since i’m a freak when it comes to tweaking and i have a bit of ocd, i would really love to have my bios fully unlocked. I have a friend who knows allot but is too busy to work on my bios. AMIBCP did not work with my board,
so i’m here to ask for help :). If ur gonna mod my bios, i would love for it to be fully unlocked. I can talk to a guy about what to set later.
MY BIOS: http://www.mediafire.com/file/9z993jh2fz…IGINAL.rom/file
It’s not a virus. If i am supposed to post it in a different way i will edit this. Riot
Also something i want to add is that my bios is loaded with horrible microcode. Basically it’s patched with spectre and meltdown patches.
@riotatetacos - Please tell me how you made the above file? Does your board have USB Flashback or not? If it does, I will use stock BIOS, unless you want me to use your current BIOS (if so, I will walk you through FPT usage and have you dump BIOS region)
About your microcode comment, do you mean your BIOS is updated with latest microcodes? If yes, are you also asking for older ones instead? If yes, I need to know your CPU model
I also need to see one image of each main page of your BIOS, you can use F12 to screenshot to USB, then zuip for me.
I need to see root level of each only, at top of each ones page. So on each of Main, Advanced, Boot, Security, Save And exit etc.
Also, since you are interested in C- States, please show me all currently visible to you settings at >> Advanced >> CPU Config >> CPU - Power Management Control (If you can see this deep into Advanced).
Scroll up/down if needed, so I can see everything you can see in that section now.
Also, please confirm this is your motherboard since you did not give full model name anywhere - And please tell me the BIOS version you are using (I’m grabbing latest 1401 now to check it out)
ROG STRIX Z390-F GAMING - https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG…-Z390-F-GAMING/
I made the file with Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0. And i’m not sure about the usb flashback feature. I would just like u to use my current bios. This is the bios i just got with my ASUS ROG STRIX z390-F. Yes the motherboard is updated with the latest microcodes as far as i know. Atleast im 100% sure that its protected with spectre and meltdown patches. Not sure about zombieload and if thats even being microcode patched yet. My cpu is a 9700k. I will go and take pictures of my bios right now and post them here. My bios version is AMI 0905 4/10/2019
-------------------------
Aight ill post the pictures here. The monitoring section is blurry but you get the idea i think
http://www.mediafire.com/file/epb6mvwhcf6q5c5/BIOS.7z/file heres pictures of my bios.
Also i wanna add i can only see 1 c state. I realised u asked for all the settings i have there now. Ill post another picture http://www.mediafire.com/file/ddke67mmwj…_CONFIG.7z/file heres my cpu config settings in my bios.
------------------
The reason why its taken with my phone is because i couldnt take screenshots with an ntfs usb… So ye but i got the pictures
Thanks to whoever edited it for me. I was gone for a few hours and was worried if my posts would get taken down
Please edit your posts if you need to add more info/questions and no one has replied yet. Thanks
BIOS 905 does not have all the latest security fixes for spectre/meltdown, for that you should use latest BIOS 1401 if you are concerned with those things.
Your board does not have USB Flashback, so this is my preferred way for you to flash mod BIOS, please do as below and then wait (This will keep you on BIOS 905, and keep any saved profiles you have)
Check BIOS main page and see if ME FW version is shown, if not then download HWINFO64
Then on the large window on left side, expand motherboard and find ME area, inside that get the ME Firmware version.
Once you have that, go to this thread and in the section “C.2” download the matching ME System Tools Package
(ie if ME FW version = 10.x get V10 package, if 9.0-9.1 get V9.1 package, if 9.5 or above get V9.5 package etc)
Intel Management Engine: Drivers, Firmware & System Tools
Once downloaded, inside you will find Flash Programming Tool folder, and inside that a Windows or Win/Win32 folder.
Select that Win folder, hold shift and press right click, choose open command window here (Not power shell).
At the command prompt type the following command and send me the created file to modify >> FPTw.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin
Right after you do that, try to write back the BIOS Region dump and see if you get any error >> FPTw.exe -bios -f biosreg.bin
If you do get error, show me image of the command entered and the error given
^^ This is important step, don’t forget ^^
If you are stuck on Win10 and cannot easily get command prompt, and method I mentioned above does not work for you, here is some links that should help
Or, copy all contents from the Flash Programming Tool \ DOS folder to the root of a USB Bootable disk and do the dump from DOS (FPT.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin)

https://www.windowscentral.com/add-open-…menu-windows-10
https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/open-…ator-privileges
Or here is simply registry edit that adds “Open command window here as Administrator” to the right click menu
Double-click to install, reboot after install may be required

Please take images of the BIOS using F12 to screenshot to USB. I need to see all images I asked about.
I didn’t check your download images because you said blurry and camera, this is not necessary and I need to see not “get the idea”, you can get a perfect screenshot using F12 hotkey (make a FAT32 USB)
And yes, I want to see your BIOS at >> Advanced >> CPU Config >> CPU - Power Management Control (If you can see this deep into Advanced). And all other images I asked for above as well, thanks
I made a picture of it with my phone which wasnt blurry as in the cpu config picture
Ill make a fat 32 usb and redo the pictures
Ok this are the pictures you need
http://www.mediafire.com/file/uoobjmrlzu…IOSPICS.7z/file
And this is cpu configuration.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ddke67mmwj…_CONFIG.7z/file
After ive dumped the fpt whats next?
I found my me version
Alright i found out i got the v12.0.22.1310 ME FW. So i downloaded the v12 r19 from C.2
So when i typed in
FPTw.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin
I got an error saying this:
‘FPTw.exe’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
And when when u mod my bios i would like to have all of the microcode patches removed and everything unlocked. Cause microcodes cause higher temps
Maybe i can try doing it in dos?
I found that in DOS i got a “Bad command or file name” error. I have no idea what i’m doing wrong
Also i dont need to keep any profiles or settings so if its easier to start over we can happily do that. I remember what i need to set.
So i wont need to clean the ME firmware
You cannot run a board without CPU microcodes (usually), it will fail to boot. And one microcode over another, or none, is not really going to affect your temps anyway.
Since you do not have flash programmer, no, I can’t send you BIOS without microcodes because if it bricks the board you wont be able to recover
I am on limited internet, what is “CPU Config” file? If this is just another image, please put all images into one zipped package, thanks
Please show me image of what you are trying to do in windows when you try to run FPT, sounds like you are not using CMD properly and or are not at the correct location in CMD window where the FPTw.exe file is located (follow what I mentioned exactly and you’ll get it)
Clean or Update ME FW has nothing to do with BIOS settings or BIOS profiles, so not sure what your last two comments are about? Additionally, nothing we’re doing above has anything to do with ME cleaning, updating etc.
Ok so i misunderstood the prosegure. I will give you one zipped file with all the pictures you asked for so its easier for you. Sorry for that. I understand that you are limited on internet so i will not send different zips and just do one instead.
So i the microcode thing, we can scratch out of the way. That is fine. The most important thing is to just get all the settings unlocked. Basically i found that it wasnt running cmd as admin, but when it did run as admin i got an access denied and an error on the screen. (its in the picture i sent).
I will edit this when i will send the link.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/bqr2q71fzw…ked_for.7z/file Heres the pictures you asked for. Sorry for being bad at this lmao.
I just realised i did it in the win64 folder the whole time. Ill try to do it in the win32 folder right now.
Ye ill just do it in dos. Im missing allot of dll files and i cba downloading all of them
In dos it said that “The program cant be ran in dos”
I will install windows 10 for now so i dont have to install all the files separately. This is kind of tidedous ngl. But thats fine im powering through it.
Aight i did it! it worked in windows 10. What now?
This is how it went: I did the FPTw.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin command and it worked, then i made the PTw.exe -bios -f biosreg.bin command and it asked me to overwrite a biosreg.bin file and i hit y. then it said successful. what now.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/p93t36crlw7batk/BIOS.7z/file This is the bios file it gave me. Here it is!
Please slow down! I thank you for all the images at once, but please redo, once you have done all things correctly
FPT DOS, you have to copy all the files from the DOS folder to your bootable USB, not from the win/win32 folder
But, anyway, you can do in windows as I mentioned. You just have got in hurry it seems, so you need to toss all you have, slow down, and do it again properly and carefully. You must be careful with FPT or you can brick your BIOS in a single click!
Please re-read the FPT spoiler above, and do exactly and only that, then give me all images (including the error image, or you can tell me error # here, image not necessarily needed unless you are not putting in command properly)
Your last comment about usage of FPT with the -f command could not have happened that way (-f means flash file) and you explained some (Save/create operation, since you mentioned overwrite your file that was already in folder)
So, to avoid any confusion, please toss all the FPT files and images and redo that as instructed above and stop once you get the FPT error on write procedure so I can then show you how to disable whatever lock stops it and gives you the error.
Yes, sorry, this may be tedious, but it’s best to do carefully and properly, so you don’t end up bricking your board. And I’m sorry to let you know, more tedious stuff will be coming your way, to unlock the lock stopping you from writing BIOS back, but it’s what we have to do.
Don’t worry I’ve made an in-depth guide w/ images and steps explained etc for the next procedure, so hopefully it wont be so bad for you
Ok. I’ll slow down xd. I’ll do it in DOS. Then ill send you all the pictures organized.
First i tried in dos with the files from the “DOS” folder, that gave me a “Bad file or command name” error.
Then i thought since i was able to do it b4, i was gonna be able to do it in the OS again. Well that gave me this error
http://www.mediafire.com/file/h9biys92vg…picture.7z/file
And these are the pictures of my bios
http://www.mediafire.com/file/jfx8sgxvtt…ked_for.7z/file
DOS is not required or suggested, unless you can’t figure out how to do in windows. Bad command or file name means you are not doing something correct (ie command is wrong, or directory you are in does not contain files you used in command).
I’d have to see the screen before I could tell you for sure (if you do this, run dir /w before, so I can see USB Contents too
Is your ME FW version 12? If yes, do you have Intel ME Drivers installed? Those errors are VERY unusual (ie I’ve never seen that before after having helped 1000’s of users). This is not kind of error you should have been getting, that I previouly mentioned we’d work around
Are you using an edited BIOS now? Something seems not correct. Please reflash stock BIOS from Asus using EZ flash, then redo the FPT stuff from windows again.
Thanks for the BIOS images, missing rest of Ai Tweaker. And on CPU Config, you have C-States disabled??? Please enable, so I can see all visible to you options. Surprised to see that disabled, since you are requesting use of more c-state options???
Im asking for more c states to disable Also i dont see intel management interface in device manager. I disable all of this shit in bios. Cant u just download the 0905 bios from the website and unlock it? wont that work. And im on me version 12 yes. me fw 12.0.22.1310 on there it says. 12.0.something.1433. i couldnt find one for my version. So maybe its better to download the bios from the website. Since i dont care about my own bios rn. I can redo everything.
People with unlocked bioses can disable multiple c states and disable them all and get insane results.
This is NOT a modded bios btw.
I bet that its because its the wrong version cause im using a different v12 than what it says in the cmd windows as in the picture with the error. As mentioned before.
You already disabled all C-States with that one setting, so adding more to be visible to you under there is a moot point. We can do it of course, but there is no reason to since you disable the main controlling setting for C-States anyway
You can’t “Disable” ME in BIOS settings, however you can enable ME Reflash in BIOS if you used special methods (it’s not a visible BIOS setting, and is only meant to be a temp setting to allow ME reflash via FPT).
It sounds like you have not installed Intel ME Drivers, either do that, or carry on in DOS where ME drivers are not required.
Where do you see ME FW 12, what app are you seeing that in, and where, show me? Yes, I can edit stock BIOS, but that wont help you flash it FPT is only way you can flash mod BIOS, so we are here
Back to C-States, if you enable that setting you can disable individual ones too, same as everyone else. The setting you disabled already, disabled all at once.
But yes, sometimes there may be a few individual C States hidden from you, which would be disabled once you disable main anyway. Set C-States to enabled, and then show me all you can see in BIOS, then I;ll know which you need visible still.
I didn’t ask this above because you disabled, so I wasn’t sure of your goal at that point.
V12 FPT version does not matter, main version is all that matters here (V12 System Tools package, for any V12.xxxx ME FW)
Show me an image of your DOS USB Stick contents (all should be in root, nothing in folders)
Then show me dir /w in DOS, followed by your attempt to dump BIOS region in DOS (FPT.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin)
Anyways i have a friend who knows allot about bios settings so thats why i need it fully unlocked. I dont have chipset drivers installed because i have never needed them. But i can install them and see what happens.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/tg5fn11le4…picture.7z/file This what i have on the usb. Everything is in root as u can see. The locale folder is from Rufus. Do i have to do dir /w before i do the command? I just realised i did FPTw.exe instead of FPT.exe. That was the issue. Ill do it in dos. Now we shouldnt have any issues. This is embarrasing for me im sorry for wasting time man. You are very nice. I will redo it now and send u if i have any errors. I have been wrong this whole time. I appreciate your help so much you dont even know.
Alright! So now we are on the same page! I found out i did make the wrong command before. This is my bad and i appreciate that you are so patient with me. Ok so the Memory dump worked out perfect. The command was FPT.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin. Success. The second command called FPT.exe -bios -f biosreg.bin Did not work. Here is the picture showing the error. Seems like bios protection getting in the way.
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/6…7887/image0.jpg
Sorry for short reply, only have one second and have to run. Yes, protection error is expected, nice you got it working (I haven’t checked image yet)
Anyway, tonight I will show you how to disable protection, then we move forward. Please wait
It’s OK, don’t worry, I am very patient person
Be back tonight!
Ill be on basically the whole night man! Up until 4 or 5 am. I like taking advantage of holidays xd. I will frequently check this forum and short answeres are fine bro. Also im eu region and i think you are NA right? Ye most people from eu dont have as good of english as you XD. Anyways if you are on in the next 6 or so hours ill be on. If not im gonna be on 6 am eastern time. Which is about 12 for me. We can talk then.
Aight i see were both on right now
@riotatetacos - Hmm! Error 167 can be a pain sometimes, you may need to do pinmod or purchase a flash programmer, but lets hope not! Sometimes it only shows that error when it’s really something else causing it and it should have been other error instead
Where is your FPT Dumped BIOS region?? Sorry, I would have mentioned this earlier, but I thought you linked it at #13 when you finally got FPT working in DOS
Please do these two things in DOS now and send me the created files
FPT.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin
FPT.exe -desc -d fd.bin
Yes NA
Yo, i am on vacation, and i will try the fd command when i am home on wednesday. Please delete the above comment. I’m on mobile and fucked something up somehow lmfao. I have the file from the biosreg.bin command and ill send you that with the other file ones i am home.
I am home early. Here are the two files created. BIOSREG.BIN and FD.BIN
http://www.mediafire.com/file/yziqp1y6fi…created.7z/file
I am on now and i see you are on so this is a good time to do this.
@riotatetacos - BIOS Lock is enabled everywhere, lets disable that! Please follow guide below, but you can start at step #6 since I’ve gathered details for your below
[GUIDE] Grub Fix Intel FPT Error 280 or 368 - BIOS Lock Asus/Other Mod BIOS Flash
Rename your .efi file to >> Shell.efi
BIOS Lock variable to change >> 0xA83
So, at grub prompt you will type the following and then enter (case sensitive)
setup_var 0xA83 0x0
Once done, go back into windows (or DOS) and do the FPT dump again, and do the test write back again
FPTw.exe -bios -d biosregnew.bin
FPTw.exe -bios -f biosregnew.bin
Once write back is successful, then send me that new biosregnew.bin dump you made
Don’t forget, if you do in DOS, use FPT.exe instead of FPTw.exe
Happy New Year!!
What tools do i need from up top in the guide ?
UEFITool 0.25.0 - Download in first spoiler
UEFITool NE Alpha A51
Is my efi bios reg and is the lock file fd?
I dont reaally understand what i am supposed to rename. What files? In the 6th step theres nothing i can download to rename. Am i missing something?
You don’t need any of that, I already extracted the info that you need form the BIOS myself.
Read from step #6 onward is all, I always did all the stuff for you that needs the tools.
Download the attached package at the bottom of that guide, rename the .efi file as mentioned above, then boot to grub using that file and the guide from step #6 onward
