Hi All,
I have the following motherboard : Asus P6X58D Premium running for years with an Core i7 920 and 12GB ram.
I have found this forum, and its great btw !
I’m planning to do an SSD RAID0 upgrade, and found the following topic already, where i have found an modded Bios rom for my board which has the following mods :
Intel RAID Option ROM with Trim Mod 10.1
Marvell Yukon PXE Build v6.60.2.3 (20080422) (Ethernet Option ROM) Latest i could find
Marvell Storage Controller v1.0.0.1038 Option ROM
Used topic post : Request for RAID OROM for Asus P6X58D Premium
I have flashed my board succesfully with the bios rom provide by lowjax, and i have made an test RAID with 2 and 3 SSD’s.
I found that it was working correctly and running a CMD command in Windows 10 Pro shows me that Trim was enabled…
The only thing i wonder is what else do I need to install, to get maybay better performance with the RAID0 SSD’s.
I was running for test the following SSD’s :
Intel X25-M 80GB
OCZ Agility 3 60GB
I was getting about 550 Read and 180 Write,
and treeway raid0 configuration :
Intel X25-M 60GB
OCZ Agility 3 60GB
Kingston V300 60GB
about 650 Read and about 250 Write.
Do i need to replace the Intel driver that windows (10) puts default on the Intel RAID device, or what is recommended here ??
How does it work with intel RST Software and RAID Driver, do i need to replace it with those and which one is reccommended for my setup ??
hope someone here can help me out,
Thanks in advance,
p.s
sry for my bad English I’m from the Netherlands
@BokitoNL :
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
You can find all my tips about how to boost the performance of an Intel RAID0 system within the start post of >this< thread.
If you want to get the by far best possible RAID0 performance with your Intel ICH10R RAID0 system, you should replace the Win10 inbox Intel RST(e) RAID driver v13.2.0.1022 by the Intel RST RAID driver v11.2.0.1006 WHQL.
The problem is, that you may not be able to successfully “downgrade” the in-box RST(e) Intel RAID driver to any “conventional” Intel RST driver like the v11.2.0.1006 one. You will get an unbootable system while rebooting after the driver “downgrade”.
Solution: A clean install of a Win10 image, where you have previously removed the Intel in-box RAID driver and inserted the desired Intel RST RAID driver. >Here< is the guide about how to do it.
Good luck!
Dieter (alias Fernando)
Hi Fernando,
Thx for the fast response !
So i will make my own custom Windows 10 now, and slipstream the driver into it, and remove the default one.
After doding this, is there any RST Software that I can run, and install ?
Which one do you recommend for my system (ICH10R), running Windows 10 Pro X64 ??
Thanks in advance,
I recommend to install the 64bit Intel RST AHCI/RAID Drivers & Software Set v11.2.0.1006 WHQL. You can find the download link within the start post of >this< thread (chapter I A).
Hi Fernando,
Yesterday I have made my custom Windows 10 Pro, Gonna test it soon.
I Will use 64bit Intel RST AHCI/RAID Drivers & Software Set v11.2.0.1006 WHQL with it…
I was wondering how much performance improvements in general there is when, replacing the intel AHCI/RAID Driver from Windows…
Is it generally like 10 or 20% ??
Please have a look into the screenshots I have published within the start post of >this< thread. The benchmark test results I got with my Z68 RAID0 system are comparable with your X58 system, the score differences will be even bigger.
Hi Ferando,
Thx for the link to that thread.
I have vieuwed the difference between the drivers, and noticed speed improvements.
I currently am running my final RAID0 configuration (2X Intel 330 180GB) on my PC.
I have got version 11.2.0.1006 running as my RAID driver controller
But have a small question and problem with RST Software.
I cant get the RST Software starting, when i want to open the Rapid Storage software it keeps saying trying to connect to service… (and wont go any further)
please see some screenshots I’ve posted…
I have installed the following RST version : Intel RST AHCI/RAID Drivers & Software Set v11.2.0.1006 WHQL
|addpics|50h-2-914e.png-invaddpicsinvv|/addpics|
The RST Software needs .NET Framework 3.5 to be properly started.
So you have to add this MS software by running the “Programs” section of the Control Panel, choosing the option “Turn Windows features on and off” and checking the on-top option “.NET Framework 3.5”.
After having completed the installation of .NET Framework 3.5, I recommend to reboot and to run the Intel RST Software again. If you should still get the error message, you may have to re-install the RST Software (can be on top of the previously installed one, because both versions are identical).
After the next reboot everything should be fine.
Hi,
thx for the fast replay !
I have indeed checked and installed .net 3.5 before installing RST.
Right now I have uninstalled it, and will try a new clean fresh install.
Btw here are my current benchmark speeds, Why is Anvil Benchmark tool much slower, than Atto disk benchmark ??
Please see the screenshots…
hmm, maybay because i use 512MB size in Atto ??, and are these speeds accepteable for my chipset you think ??
I gess i will never get higher speeds than Sata 600 right ??, my ICH10R has sata 300, and now i’m combining two sata ports with my RAID0…
|addpics|50h-5-056c.png-invaddpicsinvv,50h-6-3436.png-invaddpicsinvv|/addpics|
Because they work completely different. The ATTO tool uses only compressable test files (which is not the case while doing the users daily work). That is the simple reason, why the ATTO tool shows higher scores and why SSD manufacturers like to show the performance by using this tool.
aah ok I see,
thanks for the info, nice to know…
My RST is now working, I have enabled Cache write back, and got some new results
Is it btw reccomended to enable Write Cache back, ro do you reccomend some other settings… ? (will check the topic also again)
|addpics|50h-7-684d.png-invaddpicsinvv|/addpics|
You will find the answer to this question and all other recommended settings to boost the RAID0 performance within the start post of >this< thread.
Hi Fernando,
Thanks again.
I think my settings are all good now…
Ive enabled write cach back, I have checked 4KB block size and installed Intel SSD Toolbox.
Also dissabled Defragmentation and other Windows optimalisations as shown in that thread…
When i was optimising in RST, I dont have the Performance Option but I guess this is normal for my system ?
So I can now just uninstall Intel RST Software, and settings will be permantent. ??
(if i ever want to change, I just have to install RST again… ?)
Thanks again,

My Speeds are already a little better, after some tweaking from you thread
Thanks in advance,

I’ve got some stranger problems since yesterday
Windows 10 was getting slow, and instable… :S
My RAID0 Array also failed, I’ve checked the smart status of my ssd’s they are both fine…
I’ve just created an new RAID0 array 128KB Stripe and starting a new Windows 10 Pro installation…
Is this a know problem ? are there bugs known here ??
Hope to hear from you, thanks in advance,
No, I haven’t recognized such problems and I have used Intel RAID0 arrays for a very long time.
Although this has nothing to do with your current problems, I recommend to choose a RAID0 Stripe size of 64KB. You will realize a better performance while working, because the storage disk drives have much more to do with very small sized files than with very big sized ones.
Hi Fernando,
After doing a clean new installation of Windows 10 64Bit again, and installing my drivers and some software after a reboot the RAID0 was broken again :S…
Please see the screenshot…
I have checked the SMART of this disk, with different programms, and they all say its ok.
I have also contacted the store for warrenty, and I still have 4 monts warenty on this failing drive, but I think the SSD is not dead I’m not sure…
What do you think ?
Thanks for the 64Kb tip, I will use this in my next RAID0 build…
|addpics|50h-c-e09c.jpg-invaddpicsinvv|/addpics|
Small update, I have reflashed my BIOS again. And did a factory reset and everthing.
Created an new RAID0 array with 64KB and installed Windows 10 Pro on it again, and after second reboot after installation got BSOD and my RAID Array failed again. (the same SSD, just like in the pic. above)
Does anybody knows whats going wrong ?
Should it be the SSD, or the Bios is not correct ?
When I see this topic, you have posted before somewhere else, and check in the list the following :
ASUS P6X58D Premium MB Intel X58 Intel RST RAID ROM v10.5.1.1070 failure Raid array cannot be initialized (black screen)
But I dont have a black screen, like in this discription, als well I’m not running Intel RST RAID ROM v10.5.1.1070 but Intel RST RAID ROM v10.1.0.1008
Maybay this is an older test or other bios mod created by someone else ??
@BokitoNL :
Thanks for your reports.
This is possible, but it may be as well an error while intializing the RAID array.
The safest way to exclude a faulty SSD is
1. to secure erase the data of both SSDs and
2. to recreate the RAID array from scratch.
Hi,
Ok thx for the fast response !
Should dark boot nuke be a good option for fully erasing my ssd’s ?? (http://www.dban.org/)
Or do you reccomend another tool for formatting ??
I have recreated my array multile times already, and reinstalled windows…
The only thing i haven’t done yet is fully erasing formating my ssd’s…
