@MysticalOS - Thanks, Making a BIOS with it disabled would be simple edit so not much needed to do that. But, I will check making it visible for you. You can already see “peripherals” menu correct?
If not, it may be best to leave it hidden, due to GUI of BIOS probably locked in place and adding a new menu entry wouldn’t be visible but you could scroll left/right and it would be there, which is not ideal. We could test though, if you wanted.
However, before I do anything, I want to wait for reply from MrBeer, since this is his BIOS mod thread
Any info on how to unlock it what is the steps .lost can do it if he wants I would like the info to see how mush work it is.
@MrBeer - since this BIOS can’t be edited with AMIBCP, this method is used to change the default value (Plus, also change at setup module too, which I think you already know how to do).
See end of comments on this post - [Request]Maximus XI Hero - Unlock AMIBCP
As for making it visible or not, I need to know if you can see “peripherals” section already or not first. If you can, then to make visible would be easy, info in above linked edit method.
If you cannot see peripherals menu section, then that section would need made enabled first, then check to see if setting visible or not, then if not then do the make visible edit.
.
I can see peripherals . I will work at this this week or next . Any other info would be a help.
@MrBeer - since you can see peripherals, this should be easy mod, all you do is edit the setup module by IFR/Hex as shown in the link above for unsuppress/ungray out type edit. Nevermind, sorry, I just realized this is not in Peripherals menu . It’s in Power & Performance which is not visible to you.
I could do edit to make this menu visible, replacing some other submenu that user doesn’t use, or that is currently hidden from users in a visible section, but that is very involved edit and takes a lot of time (many hours), so the most ideal thing here is to just do the mod to disable behind the scenes.
Sorry I missed that until now
@MysticalOS - If you are OK with that, I can just make BIOS with CFG lock disabled? If yes, please link me to what BIOS you want edited
The modification example I linked before simply added a new menu item at bottom of advanced settings somewhere. Can’t just replicate that example? That one was out of date though (F13 and without any other updates)
I feel like just turning it off may cause problems with my dual boot setup of macOS and windows. i feel while macOS expects it off, windows would still expect it on no?
as for what bios edited, just what latest version bear has up for F14 with updated stuff
@MysticalOS - That link doesn’t show anything in BIOS, nor do you have a visible “Advanced” section in your BIOS. Please clarify, or show me image of said example, then maybe I can do.
The setting you want is in a section not visible to you (Power & Performance >> CPU - Power Management Control >> View/Configure CPU Lock Options)
It could be moved into a visible to you section and replace something else but that is a LOT of work for me to do when you simply want the setting disabled which I can do with 2-3 edits that only take a few minutes to do.
I looked at github again, and checked that BIOS. They say setting is at MIT → Advanced Frequency Settings → Advanced CPU Core Settings → CFG Lock, F10-F14 do not have it there as I previously already checked to confirm.
I can replace something there, surely a few settings hidden from you anyway, but you’ll have to give me images of all you can see on that page as it is now, so I can pick something.
Or, something could be replaced at any other location in the BIOS too, plenty more hidden from you in other areas as well, but I’d need images of all your BIOS to find a suitable setting to replace.
No, this setting is not something windows uses, I am not sure why they always have it enabled by default but I know plenty use it disabled and also use windows (as have I when testing MAC/OSX).
Send me images of what you can see in that section above and I can move a copy to there if you want, but you may have to wait a few more days for me to get it all done.
It’s many hours/days to do this kind of edit. It may take me 5-8+ hours to do, and can’t always work that long straight on one BIOS - vs 5-10 minutes just to disable, this is why I said just disable would be much easier in this instance
** Edit I checked that F13RB BIOS, and they have Added a linked copy in the location shown above. I’ve never added, only replaced, but I’m sure with this example I could teach myself, but it will add more time to the already lengthy process of doing this kind of edit.
Up to you, do you want to wait a long time (Give me at least 3-5 days maybe), or do you simply want the setting disabled (few minutes)?
A chance for you to learn new tricks, go ahead and learn
F14 Update # 3 ( Intel RST 17.8.0.4414 + EFI GOP 9.0.1095 + EFI Intel Gigabit 0.0.24)
question, is there a hidden setting in the bios that will allow me to disable or select what pci express links i can have enabled or disabled.
sometimes i just want to disable sli and have only one card running but doing it via nvidia control panel is nightmarish as i have to disable a lot of things to be able to select the option to disable
i have to do it every time i install a new driver so its getting annoying
my previous gigabyte board had dip switches to disable what pciexpress port i wanted but this board does not seem to have that or im blind as i cant see it or remember there being any.
@ViRuS2k - This can be done via BIOS mod, System Agent or PCH-IO Configuration menu (or both) would need added in place of something else you can currently see
if this can be added to a option with its own name if possible to replace a useless option then go for it
im currently using F13 bios
though i would opt for the latest beta with splash and all latest modification updates done to it that would be sweet
i dont think i use the PCH - IO setting at all even when overclocking as its not needed or to be touched at all probably best to replace that one i think
official F15a bios supports NTFS format for Q-Flash that’s pretty big
Sorry for the late reply, i understand, but is there any way you can get a picture of that menu, i will have a look online and post picture to show you if you cant find it thanks mate for the help yet again.
@MysticalOS - Sorry, I thought I came back and let you know, I can only replace something not add. You can pick something hidden, or a duplicate that’s hidden, and I can replace that and make it visible.
They must have non-public software, or Gigabyte did for them by request, because to add manually you’d then have to go in and adjust every element’s offset address for 100’s or maybe even 1000\s of settings below that.
There would be literally at least a few hundred element offsets that would need adjusted in each section under what you add to, so without software meant to do this it’s not feasibly possible.
@ViRuS2k - I can’t look online at review or user images, they may not match current BIOS. I need you to get the images directly from the BIOS you are using now. You can F12 screenshot to USB and then zip and send to me.
Send me images of everything you can see in either of the following (can be done either place)
System Agent (SA) Configuration >> PEG Port Configuration << If you can see SA Menu, but not PEG config, then we just enable this submenu to be visible
PCH-IO Configuration >> PCI Express Configuration << If you can see PCI-IO, but not PCI Exp Config we just make that visible, if you can’t see PCH-IO root menu at all, then probably best to do above one if possible.
If you can’t see either System Agent or PCH-IO menu, then I will replace something in a menu you can see for sure with the System Agent menu
Such as replace one of the hidden PCIE Max Link Speed options at Misc Config page (Force Gen1-3 visible and replace one that has Gen1-2 only)
@Lost_N_BIOS Ok then I’ll simplify it then, just latest F14 (I don’t want to touch the F15 alpha at this time) with CFG lock turned off, without adding or messing with settings. Then if I ever need to turn it back on I’ll just flash back to bear’s
@MysticalOS - I can replace something if you want, so you can see and enable/disable, how about the setting/location I mentioned above for ViruS2K.
I can do this quicker now, especially for that edit because that section only has a few settings in it.
* Edit - Never mind, sorry, I forgot I still have issue with replacing 3 option setting with two option setting too
I will just make you BIOS with CFG Lock disabled tonight when I get back. Sorry for any confusion, and all the delays
* Edit - @MysticalOS - Sorry for the uncertainty here, it’s a difficult edit!
I assumed you’d much prefer being able to see the option, and it was easier for me to give you an entire menu vs a single setting in this instance (unless we pick something later if needed, if this fails)
I can do that way, replacing a single setting with CFG lock, but you have to pick something you don’t want or can’t see that has only two options.
Anyway, can you please test one or both of these, and let me know which shows you new menu at Misc page >> Power & Performance
I think both will show you this submenu there, but I am not sure if you will be able to enter either properly, one or both may freeze upon entry (if so, just esc out, or hard reset)
Anyway, this menu is what contains the CFG Lock, located at >> Power & Performance >> CPU - Power Management Control >> CPU Lock Configuration - View/Configure CPU Lock Options
Please let me know, which works for you, you do not need to test both if first one works (if so, just let me know which you used that works) Thanks!
If both show, but fail on entry, let me know, I will try again. Or, if you just want to be done with it, please pick a single setting you do not want in any section.
It can be something you see hidden in IFR too if you want, but it must have only two options (no auto, setting1, setting2 - Only setting1, setting2)
If you cannot find anything, I will try to pick something and ask you if it’s OK. Last user I did that for pick the 3DM01 benchmark setting at misc page, so that is valid option I’ve previously used.
Or, I can just disable and not make it visible to you too, up to you. I keep trying though, sorry, I hate letting BIOS beat me
